- Offseason trades have backfired badly left us with less midfield depth not more, how does this happen? - Jetta and Redden - just false.

What also happened was Sheed has spent just about the whole season injured, and our top draft pick was a midfielder who wasn't an instant prospect and needs time to develop.

The depth is there, it's just much of it is out of form - Redden, Jetta, Duggan, Hutchings.

Last year's depth wasn't great either. Selwood was in horrible form all year and McGinnity was an emergency for the grand final FFS.

6th on the ladder?

Sounds like a head in the sand argument.

Which opponent, above us, have we beaten?

Weren't WCE equal second before last week? The "forest for the trees" saying comes to mind. This has been a successful season for WCE who have blooded many young players. There has been a genuine changing of the guard this season.

WCE keep saying that there is a lack of effort and that individual players are out of form. With no injuries and 6th on the ladder, WCE are poised to make a dent in the finals. If they bomb out as most on this forum expect, then this was have still been a meaningful season and should have them poised for a genuine assault in 2017. Not every season will go as expected.

Hahaha, have you watched us at all this season?

looking at results, simpson under-delivered in year 1, over-delivered in year 2 and is barely scraping by with a pass mark so far this year.

jury is still out.

As I recall your jury returned four rounds into year 1, and wanted the death penalty imposed.

Really? Is a slim miss at finals in his first year of a senior coaching gig really "under delivering"? I understand we're a club with high standards, and as supporters we may be more accustomed to higher standards than those of other AFL clubs, but I wouldn't call that a fail by any stretch.

When teams typically rise as ours did last year, they either eclipse the new benchmark again, or fall below it. We're the latter, and be it a player issue or a coaching issue, I don't think it's right to be swinging the axe like a silly bastard for the sake of it.

If history tells us anything, it's that chopping and changing coaches hoping for the fast repair doesn't work. As shit as it feels to be in the situation we are now, I'm sure the corrections are being made now. We may not seem them this season, but I believe they're coming.

It's the stupid decisions that are getting made this year. Decisions at the selection table are worrying this year

Not to mention not playing the same game plan as last year

Clearly our tweaks of the game plan suck press the default button Simmo

Then their is silly decisions like resting Barrass then flying him to Melbourne

Not replacing Pyke i mean FFS we aren't Brisbane we can afford to replace Pyke surely.

Not all's lost but some questions do need to be asked .......

..have watched all games. We have been terrible. Time for changes, coaching panel and player grps.
Understand your passion, but no club removes everything all at once.

Our midfield core hasn't been good for awhile, I would allow time for this to happen.

..true, but we have been allowing 10years for this. You cannot turn away from our whole team inability to compete for 4 quarters. The inherent softness the grp has has is like a cancer. We need stronger action from Management and our coaches.

We competed for 4 qtrs consistently in 2015.

..in the GF??
That is one game.

I'd like you to think of the other games, QF v Hawks would be a start. Games through the regular H&A season.

You claimed 10 yrs of softness.

That implies 2006 team was also soft, as was 2007?

Simmo shot himself in the foot making the GF it seems.

Set expectations too high for some fans.

Was always going to be a struggle to keep improving this team and building on last years success

still a young coach people need to be patient

clarkson didnt just walk in and win a premiership at hawthorn
9th
7th
3rd

Finishing position of hawthorn after winning the 2008 GF and before making it back to the GF again in 2012

During that time people were wondering if he was capable of getting them back to a GF and whether he should be replaced

We've gone backwards this year from 2015 no doubt but sometimes that happens to even the best coaches

Lyon today admitting to negligence, running a skills based preseason has impacted his teams gut running ability. Likewise I'm convinced our season went gone pear shaped in our offseason. We haven't delivered anywhere near the manic pressure, effort and energy of last year and have continually dropped off during our fourth quarters.

ISSUES:
1. Too Tall in the Backline
Last year we had 2 tall backs max. Shep, Wellers and Hurn rotated on the 3rd tall and did an excellent job spoiling, running off and getting in front of these types and providing run out of defence. With 3 tall defender this isn't happening.

2. Disposal
We're just fumbling and missing A LOT. The number of times where we would have been away if the kick or handball or tap was closer to the target... pathetic.

3. Closing up space
What was critical to last season was how quickly the players got into position when the opposition got the ball. It was almost automatic and there was a lot of focus and communication out there. This season it seems to be taken for granted and you're not seeing everyone putting in the effort and focus to get into position and check others are in position too.

The first issue is selection. The second and third issues are coaching. whether or not it's Simmo directly, they all fall under his purview. If the players are showing pea hearts, bring in others, give them a go.

Our general fitness has been down. This preseason we didnt do much fitness work and left that to the players to do. Im pretty sure port did that as well after 2014 and look where that got them.

One player that i think this has affected is gaff. His getting ball as much last year but fatigue is getting in to him. Those grubber kicks and clangers we see recently can be partly blamed on fatigue. Gaff throught out his career was a borderline elite kick and this year he seems like an ebert. Also i have noticed this year where gaff was on track for a big game but ends up just getting 30 or just under.

We also have a few players on our list that cannot run out games and a heavy fitness program would have been benificial in the preseason. I think the likes of duggan, nelson and yeo would have benofited with a heavy fitness regime early on.

Yes came to the conclusion some time ago that something went askew in our pre-season preparation. The team has not looked switched on from the word go!
