So how many times does it have to be said in this thread there is an issue with those games. A massive issue?

Not when Geelong asks for them there isn't.

Haha. Double chance for top four teams is now a taint on the flag. The fact these are the only things you can think of as arguments just shows that im right. Its about time non geelong supporters push for fairness in our game.

No. A double chance for a team that only got to that position because they are given the most favourable fixture in the league. I'm fine with giving a double chance to teams that deserve it.

And its true, all supporters should push for fairness in our game. For a start, the AFL should make sure umpires don't get sucked in by staging players and gesticulating coaches during the home and away season. Because when the good umpires do their job properly in the finals, the teams that relied on the imbalance get shown up as pretenders.

Don't know why Richmond fans are gloating so much. Great win and all, could be a little more humble.

Some context. The club has not had a bigger, more important or meaningful win in a game of footy for their club in 35 years. 35 ****ing years!!!!
Give them some slack and at least a moment in the sun to enjoy it for at least 24 hours.
Let them gloat whilst they can and do not be such a Debbie Downer.

Forgive him. Maths is not their strong point. :p

It's not maths that was the issue. History wasn't the strong point. If you were so clever you'd realise that ;)

I dont give a rat's tossbag :D

Finals are for the best available home state stadium that can manage the expected crowd. There are no complaints when the cats play home games at Etihad or the MCG through the year. Why should the geelong fans who live in melbourne be disadvantaged by having to miss out on seeing them play a final at a sellout at Skilled?

Well to be fair, the Melbourne based Cat fans avoid having to live in Geelong.

So in future if Adelaide or West Coast finish 1 or 2, and have to play a home final at the G - against an Essendon, Collingwood, or Richmond. The same Crows and West Coast fans calling Geelong fans whingers - will be very happy to have their home final at the G?. Because we can't have 40,000 fans locked out now can we?

By your logic, you deny 65,000 fans going to the footy. I live in Geelong, it's hardly a regional centre, it's as much an outer suburb these days. We at the Bulldogs have much much more disadvantages over the decades than Geelong could ever conceive.
Except for the purposes of hosting an AFL final, geelong simply is a regional centre rather than a suburb.

The stadium only has the capacity of grounds that were phased out of existence in the early 90s. 1 crowded train line that has infrequent services to a game and hardly anything afterward is all that's available PT wise to get you there and back. There's a lack of decent hospitality available for pre/post match in the geelong city centre.

Geelong is a cultural backwater that refuses to change, and the people take pride in this identity. They want their local footy to remain as near to a local footy club as possible, and in a way that's admirable. But if you want to participate in a national comp there's a need to be something bigger than a local footy side.

Newflash from 2015. YES!!!!

1961, 71, 76, 78, 83, 86, 88, 89, 91, 2008, 2013, 14 & 15

So we could then glean from that that Maybloomers had a longer flag draught than the tigers current one?

Nope. Hawks took from 1925 to 61 to win a first flag in this league.
Tigers present drought from their 10th flag in 1980 is on 37th year.
Hawks actually had 4 flags at the time of Tigers most recent flag.
I've seen Hawks win 10 flags since I been following football. Shakes heads and mutters lucky pricks...

I think there is a significant different between having to fly for hours to get to the ground and driving up the road.

The real issue is: how did Geelong finish so high on the ladder? Because they get as great a home advantage as any team and as small an away disadvantage as any team. And because the standard of umpiring has declined over the last decade to the point that home advantage now significantly improves a team's chances of winning.
Remove these advantages from Geelong and they finish from 5-8. Get a more neutral ground and players (who were used to getting soft frees and not getting frees paid against them at their home games) wilt under the pressure and look second rate.
Absolutely spot on!

But some Geelong supporters cannot see this. They want everything. Next thing they'll want the GF played at KP because they finished the H&A season above their opponent. Very sad indeed.

Yes their season is looking Fremantle-eque.. exaggerated ladder position due to home ground advsntsge and found out in finals....

The ground is irrelevant. We are shit and poorly coached which is why these results are becoming more common as time goes on. I remember us fighting through a ferocious Collingwood crowd in a famous preliminary back in 07, and we wouldn't have thought twice about where it was played, because we were actually good and believed we could win anywhere against anyone. The current team is a disgrace compared to that side.

The Tigers wanted it more and the crowd showed. I say well played to them, they've been through a lot and stuck with them through thick and thin, and might finally get some reward for all the loyalty.

Not sure I've ever seen grapes this sour. Seriously bad loser, looking for excuses.

You ever listened to either Scott brothers pressers after a loss? Worst losers ever. Must be rubbing off on the supporter bases.

Is the MCG in South Australia or Western Australia?

Already happened in the 'good old days' anyway.

1990: WC (3rd) played Collingwood (2nd) at Waverley. The game was drawn and replayed the following week at Waverley again. We lost then played Melbourne (4th) at Waverley again. We won then played Essendon (1st) at Waverley again.

Also see 1995 and 1996...

Barely sustain itself? With that TV rights deal? Yeah whatever.

And thanks for the condescending attitude by the way.

The money is paltry in comparison to the EPL and all the other fairer competitions you want to compare it to.

As for condescending, when you open your conversation with:

What a load of crap this post is. Is that you Gillon or even Andrew? If it's all only about crowds and money, then it's entertainment > sport and entitlements > fairness. That's just reinforcing my post.

...it doesn't have anywhere else to go really...
