incredibly confusing story...finally a bit of light at stages this season... should've been 2 years ago?

The pay out affecting the soft cap bought him more time

Had to be done, but still a sad day for the club

Money is the only possible reason.

Huge contract + they’d already be at or over the soft cap, so would’ve had to pay tax on it, which pretty much doubles the cost.

There was talk at the time it would’ve cost them up to $6 million to sack him, before they even looked at a new coach.

“Senior players” wanted him gone.

Outside of McGovern, which player has really earned the right to want that? Darling? Gaff? Duggan is the most painful player in the competition with his inability to make quick & decisive decisions. Yeo has spent the best part of 3 years sidelined.

Amusing. Tail wagging the dog.

But clearly once you lose the players you can’t remain. How do you lead what will be a slow rebuild when you don’t have the support of the players. The media vultures were circling all last week & you knew something was inevitable.

He had a good run but it was definitely time and if really 3 years too late, his lack of dropping older spuds and focusing on youth was his own doing. Our club is in a place it’s never been development wise because of his decisions.

Hopefully players get put on notice and start performing as their careers dependant on it which they didn’t do with him as coach because they’d be picked the following week no matter what.

Unfortunate for Simo but just didn’t have enough W on the board the past few years.

Good timing in a way. Caretaker coach has 7 matches to audition for the role.

Or if they appoint a permanent coach, they are there ready to implement their style and make tough coaching decisions on list management.

There will be a number of players on notice now.

Disagree. Totally losing the list and rotting for 2-3 years will weigh heavily on his reputation.

i suspect him being a premiership coach will be weighted higher than that.

All will be forgotten in 18 months once the next big coaching job is available. Theres multiple head coaches at their 2nd job in the league right now, most didn't win a flag either.
