News Simpson sacked

be interesting to see if any of the other premiership coaches who've held on too long go too (bevo, scott, ken*) are pushed out now in case clubs are worried about losing out in the next generation coaching roundabout?

*didn't win one but absolutely been too long.

Yep,
The first domino to fall.
Port needn’t be jumpy if there is an existing agreement in place with Carr.
Reckon Scott can bide his time a little longer then head down to Tassie in a few years for his superannuation.
Fagan might follow him as the football director or in some other role.
Melbourne and Footscray might be interested in the race for the best available coach though should they miss finals this season and Adelaide wouldn’t be happy with things atm either …

Game on !!!

Surely Gaff, Sheed and Darling have to go with them. Sheed should get a farewell game, Darling maybe a week or two then a farewell game. But they all can't be played after that for the rest of the season.
Gaff's done but Sheed and Darling are still contracted.

Sheed should definitely be shown the door. Got a ruined foot and just adds nothing any more.

Darling can play 2s and get nursed to 300 and seeya.

Time to properly rip the bandaid off. We have enough senior players still actually contributing that the ones who aren't can be moved on.

Hinkley should've been tapped on the shoulder after the 2021 Prelim.

As others said, Simpson's contract meant that West Coast couldn't sack him when the need to move him on came. Well, without paying him out a huge lump sum that is.

Much cheaper to do now

Agree. The real sacking should be the one who extended that last contract to put the Eagles in a position where it would have cost so much to sack a coach.

I think you'll find that most of us guys over on the WC board believe that the right decision was made. Not a lot of tears or gnashing of teeth going on.

Simmo was a valued premiership coach who will go down in our club history with more praise to his name than scorn.

Now the rebuild and long climb back towards success can finally start.

Of course his ceiling was much higher, but likewise, none of those guys presided over 3 years of absolutely horrific shit, some of the worst footy we’ve seen in the AFL history, players completely out of shape and not trying.

WC have not even been the most basic of AFL standard for a very long time.

Coaches who do that are spared the blushes somewhat as they get sacked quickly and it can be put down to a bad season, etc.

Not this… it will leave a massive stain on him. It’s unfortunate, he seems like a decent bloke and had a good record prior to that.

But there was a long period where it almost seemed like he was trying to get sacked, or at least just standing around, doing absolutely nothing, waiting for it to happen.
We had a horrific injury list for the last two years. If only there was a way to speed up recovery and regain fitness.

Extending him was a good move.

Imagine if we continued the melb form we would have been looking like geniuses.

The fact is next coach is a Paul Roos. Sacked within 3 years

Already happened.

Wondering if that's why the Dockers have been doing one year extensions on Longmuir, everyone's kind of gone a bit wtf about them, but maybe they've just been looking up the road and seeing the position the Eagles were in with a longer term coaching contract.

He can't coach, he's has no coached grand final appearances, whereas Simpson had 2 grand final appearances and 1 premiership as coach in his first 5 seasons. Hinkley isn't making the grand final, this season, so their 6th place is irrelevant, it's just another wasted season. Whereas Simpson didn't waste 12 seasons, he got a premiership in his 5th season, that's real coaching.
Yeah, righto mate

Whatever you reckon... :thumbsu:

Perhaps Dean Cox signalled his availability and the board decided now is the time

The next coach has to do the hard yards and cull the deadwood out of the list. However he is has a thankless task ahead.
