Interesting article on how clubs are targeting the quest for the PL money jackpot.
Have I read that right?

There's 14 championship clubs spending at least 100% of turnover on wages. That's quite alarming if that is the case. The rewards for success are great but only 3 can go up.

Agree that premier league money should filter down more to the lower leagues. Also think champions league money should filter down more to the clubs not qualified.

Boro in an impressive win over WBA albeit with a last minute goal.

Great start to the season, particularly after selling three of our best players. Brathwaite being back has been huge.

Early days, but Leeds v Boro should be a cracker on Friday.

First loss of the season last night - Bielsa rotated the squad completely, you'd think in preparation for Boro.

Still disappointing, though once I saw the squad change, I wasn't entirely surprised by the result.

Meh couldn't care less to be honest. Would rather focus EVERYTHING on the league and then the FA cup.

Never understood this mentality.

Perish the thought of trying to instill a winning mentality in the entire squad, pushing the XI constantly for their places by letting the players just beneath them demonstrate their ability in the Cup, give the supporters great Away days at bigger clubs and give the club a taste for the PL by coming up against that calibre opposition. And hell, you might even go and accidentally win something.

Cool story. It’s called prioritising. And Biesla did play a lot of the untried squad. Would this cup be worth winning at the exspense of gaining promotion? I think not.

Yeah winning silverware is so lousy.

Cool story. LMAO what are you, 12?

I was engaging in a discussion about Cup mentalities.

Hon was that the Cup last night? Wasn’t paying attention when I checked the scores this morning this morning

Feel far better about it

SM - the squad fielded will still play plenty of league minutes this season, wasn’t exactly a weak squad. Bielsa clearly has a settled first team though, who he doesn’t want playing 3 times in 7 days

Our chances of winning it are slim, our chances of promotion are less with the more games we play. This isn’t an amazing trophy with lots of prestige, lots of managers over the years have fielded reserves sides.
At the end of the day I don’t care about winning this trophy, would much rather get promotion and/or win the FA cup. If you’re the opposite and want to be excited about it then all the more to ya, I couldn’t care less.

Finally Wednesday are playing some good football, 3 2-1 wins on the trot. Currently sitting 11th, but only 4 points from top. Encouraging looking at the team lists every week and seeing a heap of our youth/academy players featuring. Only positive to come out of the embargo we were under. Our next game against Stoke is going to be huge though

Wigan Athletic like this

Fair enough. I’ve met others who thought otherwise. Never said the whole supporter base would agree just like it is for top clubs. I do think the longer a club stays down the greater the amount wish they were back up playing good football

"Good football" is such a subjective term.

Playing in the PL isn't the be all and end all to a football club's existence. The C'ship is actually a more entertaining/exciting league IMO.

More even but less quality. Depends on what counts to the person as good football. Quality will always be better in higher divisions but I agree it doesn’t make it more enjoyable for all

International break has not been kind for Leeds.

Bamford out for 4 months
Hernandez out for 4-5 weeks
Roofe out for 2-3 weeks
Beradi out for 3 weeks as well

Millwall away was where it all went pear shaped last season so hopefully not signs of things to come.
