Not that I don't believe you, but I would love to see the numbers. The 04-05 figures (the same as the numbers I was using before) state $21bil on weight-related issues, which is still way less than smoking.

https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2010/192/5/cost-overweight-and-obesity-australia

Regardless, that is a separate issue altogether and deflecting away from the real issue here. A point, by the way, about which I actually believe in a junk-food tax, cola tax, etc..

Are all the smokers Medicare Levi and private health insurance figures deducted from the figures before they come up with their guess?
I am not saying you are lying as you have produced proof to back up your stance but you know as well as I do when it comes to smoking the government and truth don't really come together.
They keep saying people are giving up in their thousands and they base this on sales, have they not heard of the black market? Many people including myself buy their smokes underground, the over taxing became out of control.

Not a smoker and nothing makes me want to puke more than smelling the air after someone has smoked. The less smoking near grounds the better

Same here. The whiff of cigarette smoke really makes me want to hurl. Maybe I've just got an oversensitive sense of smell, and an overactive gag reflex.

"Smokers now must walk to the grassed area or pathways within Yarra Park or the bridges over the train tracks".

I may be crazy, but aren't the food trucks on the pathways right next to the grass? The concourse around the ground is 10m from the food, now you have to smoke right next to them.

Yep and this isn't anything against smokers but I've always said there should be designated smoking areas and that's it. I can avoid those areas.

I'm a light smoker and a hypocrite.

Way back when you could smoke in restaurants, I wouldn't. I don't like the smell of the smoke. I don't expect others to tolerate it.
Clustering smokers together ( especially at gateways or city building entries) makes the smell intolerable. I remember walking into a "smoking room" at an airport and walking straight out. I'd inhaled the equivalent of 5 ciggies in 30 seconds.

But I'm also over governments and official bodies telling me what I can do, where I can do it. Unless my activities are harming others ( which smoking does) they can GAGF. Therefore, any restrictions on smoking is ok by me, because our habit does/can affect the health and comfort of others

Alfresco dining was used so smokers could move outside and smoke there instead of smoking inside. Then the w***ers decided that they liked dining outside and want to **** off the smokers (who had already ****ed off from the inside - which i agree with cause smoking inside is grotty)

If you are going to ban smoking from pubs then bloody well ban it full stop. (I like to have a drink when I have a smoke)

Some ppl need to harden up. I agree there should be an area for ppl to smoke. But when you have others telling others what to do, I draw the line.

Then don't smoke in my face meaning I'm getting second hand smoke...

Have an area and you can all light up together.

The less smoking in public places the better. Think about you walking with your wife and kids...should they be forced to get second hand smoke...

Smoking should be banned from city limits
Because second-hand smoke is extremely harmful.

No one is arguing that. That's why theres no smoking in th stadium. And that's why there's designated smoking areas. It's the smokers job to go there and the non smokers job to avoid that area.

For grown adults on either side of the fence it should be a pretty simple task . It's only when you get the few like the OP or yourself that seem to think their rights outweighs the other that we have a problem.

I did say there should be an area for smokers.

I see you're happy persecuting minorities so you should be happy persecuting smokers...who are in the minority.

I'm fairly libertarian and you can do whatever you like as long as it doesn't affect others but I've had to inhale other people's smoke for decades and most smokers I see don't give a damn about disposing of their butts correctly. Smoke yourself silly at home though.

I was taking the piss with my comment, I don't smoke fwiw. I don't care what anyone does.

Would it be fair to say smoking is more prevalent amongst lower socio economic groups?

As a smoker I think that's a very fair thing to say from the limited research I have seen. Does that help or have any relevance in anyway in shaping what should happen in the OPs complaints? Or in general?

I don't like the smell of alcohol, and people who drink can tend to act erratically, over 90% of the people ejected from games are under the influence of alcohol, if the powers that be are so righteous why don't they ban it?
Yeah I smoke but don't drink these days, Only people who enjoy being around drunk people are drunk people I have learnt. And I use to drink half a bottle of scotch every weekend for pre drinks.

Ban all drinking at footy cos I don't like it anymore.

Look, as a smoker I honestly don't get why most smokers get so up in arms. I'm literally putting toxic vapor into the air around kids, so I'm more than happy to move as far as people want for me to do my own selfish action. It is not a right when you impeed on someone else's rights just because you can't be arsed moving for 15 minutes to relax instead of 13... When I smoked bud back in the day I'd have about two places in total where I could do it and that was harming no one, so the smoking restrictions still seem very liberal to me.
