I must be the odd one out. I am not depressed, dissapointed yes that we got so close when I never expected us to even be in the GF proud beyond belief can't wait to next year. Salivating at thought of fully fit team

Same here. I thought I be Depressed but just Dissapointed as we outplayed for 3 Qtrs but only just lost. Great Effort but in Typical Collingwood Way losing a Close GF

Footy is a funny game. The incredible highs, the heartbreaking lows. In the end, only one team gets to win it all. The old cliche’s come to the fore... take nothing for granted. Look what happened to us last year, lost a granny and nowhere to be seen this year thanks to a truck load of injuries and a head space that was all wrong. (One fed the other I think). Your blokes achieved a lot this year and just fell short to a team who had experienced the heartbreak only a couple of years before. Sometimes that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. It may be next year, it may be the year after, but it will all click for you. I’m hoping it’s our turn next year (so you can have the year after!). :p Your boys handled the loss with class... your coach was outstanding, consoling your cheersquad after the banner, and the runner in the rooms after the game. Now THAT is absolute class. Hold your heads up, know that there will be much learned from the game... and time to move forward. But most importantly, enjoy the season you had.

Hey footy gods, yeah you.

I've got a little message for you.

I know you want us to be perpetual 2nd besters and you think you'll break us by attempting to make it so but give it up.

We're not done, WE'LL NEVER EVER EVER BE DONE! AND WE'VE GOT 15 FROM 44 TO PROVE IT.

Tryin to stop us from winning flags lol, give it up because it makes you all look stupid.

You can all GAGF you bunch of self absorbed w******.

Just be warned if you ever come down from your imaginary ivory towers, I'll happily go a murder charge or a death penalty for my Magpie siblings by ripping your heads off and putting them up the collective where they don't fit before taking pleasure of relieving myself down your collective necks to improve you all.

Until then go eat a bag of d****!

What is it about our club that sees us stumble at the last hurdle so often? We have now blown it 27 times that is 13 more than the next most. Why can’t we ever get the job done?

It felt like the more important (second) part of the match was played in their style. Long kicks to marking contests, which obviously they dominated with the sheer size and strength. They’re the best at this style and similarly we’re pretty hard to beat in our quick paced style. If we hadve maintained our own style for longer we would’ve dominated, but of course that kind of maintenance is hard and we’ve really struggled to keep it up for at least 3 quarters (barring last week... that was amazing.) I think at our best we are better than west coast, but the second half didn’t allow us to get to our best. I’m still glad we didn’t let them completely run over us though. Grundy and sidey were heavily tagged but players like jordy didn’t go missing when we lost momentum which is a definite improvement. The future excites me and I’m glad the young boys have some experience now. What are others’ thoughts?

Yep Adams pinned pointed to the Oppostion was a Shocking Kick that Adams can do
He made a costly error but he was also in the best 3 players on the ground. I said a couple of months back that I would choose Grundy as captain next year (Pendlebury should be relieved of the captaincy as he is on the decline) but now believe Adams, after a consistent finals series in which he has shown lots of grit and determination, should get the job in 2019. He would lead by example.

The question I've been asking myself for the last 24 hours.

We kicked arse in the old days, but even in the modern era we've repeatedly built strong teams.

Since the 1970s, we've made it to the final day pretty much every 8-10 years, which means each time we do a serious build we end up at the top end. And it just seems there's always "something wrong" on the final day - too many players underdone and a spiteful coach (2011), goal not rewarded (2002), Rocca suspended the week before (2003).

We deserve the title of being the MOST successful club in this country, because we are. That we still sit at 15 premierships is a constant sting I can't shake.

We got to a five goal lead and then played the rest of the match on their terms. Much like the QF from three quarter time.

Given we were always going to be outmatched down back, we needed to win the midfield and Shuey destroyed us.

Unfortunately because of that epic five goal headstart, the rest of the match became Chinese water torture, with just a few bursts of a couple of goals our way to keep our hopes up. Nightmarish.

You forgot Jason Cloke suspended for 2002. Would easily have made the difference down back. After Rocca (2003), when has a player missed a GF through suspension (and don’t bother mentioning Gaff)?

It’s days like today that test you as a fan and make you want to give it up. I would love nothing more than not to care about footy anymore but I know come next month I will renew my membership and come round one next year I will be on the couch or on the ground desperate for a win

What about the Player Movement Time? I am looking Forward to that

Turned my phone off after the game, it was the most shattered I’ve ever felt. Was good to black out the world for a night. Woke up this morning and went for a walk and read some stuff on here and I would just like to say it’s been pleasant reading everyone’s thoughts from the game. Was just a reminder that we have some very good people on here and you should all be proud of what the boys achieved this year.

I couldn’t see it that way yesterday but now I do and I’m starting to feel better about it. In the heat of the moment yesterday I said to my old man I’m done with football for a while. I knew deep down that’s not true because football is my life, just like most on here. So I’m looking forward to 2019 and I hope I have the people on here right by my side. Bring it on!

Soups x

Even when we were powerfull we had a record of 11-12 since then we have gone 4-15. It’s just not good enough

Really you could say we where lucky to only lose by 5 Points as since there 1st Goal by Rioli we where Outplayed

Yeah, that’s true TD. What shocked me was how they dominated us around the clearances. There were a few midfielders who had very quiet days. I can forgive Sidebottom — he can’t do it every week. And he would have been better if others had stepped up.

Question I have is: will we be better next year?

We desperately need Key Position Players. Apart from that we’re pretty good. But I feel like Pendles is in decline now.

Just want to say great grand final yday and congratulations to the Pies on an outstanding season.
Pre rd 1 no 'experts' predicted either of us in the grandy - we both deserved to be there and put on a great show -

Also congrats to NB for the year hes had, (afl story of the year IMO) proved alot of haters and antagonistic journalists wrong

You guys have some real young talent coming through, alot to look forward to in 2019

See you on 2019

It gets lost in the feelings of losing a GF, but it sucks even more when you realise there isn't another AFL game until March (not including AFLX or JLT Cup)

I’m guessing then you wouldn’t be a fan of a shorter game a
Reckon we will Over Pay to make Sure we get Steven May

Even if we lose a Moore or Langdon in doing so?

Hard pill to swallow, and you can take whatever moment you like and look at in isolation and blame the loss on it, but in reality we were outplayed for a large period of the game. Despite being under the pump we were mighty in our grit to hang on and take it down to the wire.

There’s far more positives to the 2018 season than negatives, and although we couldn’t quite get there this time hopefully the pain makes the boys hungrier and more determined than ever to make amends.

I cant believe how important Sier has become for us.

When he's not in the middle we really lack grunt and feel like clearances start going the oppositions way.

21 touches yesterday but had the least playing time for us, only 55%

Really strange considering it was a Grand Final.
His fitness must be nowhere near what it needs to be.
It's not but it will be after a genuine preseason and the expectation that he is best 22. He was accused of not taking his football seriously enough but I think after this year's run he will absolutely knuckle down and get cherry ripe for a huge season next year. I hope he averages 25+ disposals and plays 75-80% every game.
