He’s still going to take a horse in the Cup sweep.

Given his perfect losing record I'm happy for him to bet on me so he can keep his record intact. Will run for carrots too.

Jesus christ. So he really was dobbed in rather than "coming clean due to his conscience". That's even worse. Also he was thinking about his bets during the game, that's truly outrageous, unforgivable. His teammates must be furious. Imagine your teammate not passing to you then finding out he had a bet on himself to kick goals or a bet on another teammate to get possessions, trust broken completely.
Just dumb

I am seriously baffled at young people today... not all of course... but plenty with irresponsible and DGAF attitude.

Jayden is paid over 100K a year, probably double that... to play footy for a living and he decides to gamble ON the same league he plays in and ON the same match he played in... just stupidity everywhere.

Surely Dave you can see that what Stephenson did was very wrong? You seem to blame the AFL and the media - but Stephenson was very stupid and deserves his punishment. Sure drugs and violence are wrong and deserve penalties but betting on yourself and your own team is hardly the act of a football angel.

He is not a Footy Angel and Deserves a Lengthy Suspension but I thought more 5-6 Weeks

Heard that the idiot went to Howe after the saints game and told him u cooked my multi hahahaha

How ******* brain dead can u be

Howe then told him to tell the club

What we have Seen he has Shit for Brains.

Lucky he is a Good Footballer

Credit where it's due from Jeremy Howe.

How can Stephenson be so oblivious of the rules around betting on the football. Has the club got the right structures in place (particularly geared toward
young players) to teach the players the dangers and risks of betting on the football?

Sounds like Stephenson was Believing bit of his Own Hype and Maybe Dickhead Friends Egging him on

Well done J.Howe for calling out such ******** behavior from Stephenson.

Leadership comes in many forms, this is one.
Jeremy is very well regarded.

He’s been a super get by us.
Him Dunn been huge gains.

He wasn't oblivious, he knew what he was doing.

Expected a decent penalty but it never ceases to amuse that you can commit an assault on a football field and MAYBE get a week or two.

Place a $36 bet, lose and get cleared of match fixing? 10 weeks.

lolz

I completely understand the reasons he has been suspended etc etc.. But for
1. I have been to a lot of sport overseas and betting/gambling is no where close to as in your face as the AFL is (from my experience) The AFL does not do enough to educate on gambling.. I have more mates in bad spots due to gambling than to drug abuse.
2. You break a blokes Jaw and something that would be a criminal offence outside of footy and you get not even half the sanction this receives
3. Illicit drugs any excuse will do for most players and 0 sanctions and plenty of education, support and in house dealings.

He needs to be made an example of yes but there is some serious contradictions going on at AFL and the eye isn't on the right priorities. His generation has grown up with smart phones and betting apps. Every single 18-21 yr old I employ talks about a multi at least twice a day when I am around them.

Gaff would of gone to Jail for what he did to Brayshaw outside of the Footy Field

I find this all very depressing.

I can't believe that Stephenson would act in such a reckless and selfish manner when he was well aware his actions were against a golden rule an AFL player must adhere to.

Make no mistake this has the potential to derail our top 4 hopes and with that our Premiership chances as we are simply easier to beat without Jaidyn.

His absence will not only rob us of his individual ability out on field it will have a flow on affect that will allow the opposition to apply greater focus on the likes of a de Goey or Hoskin-Elliott inside our f50 and limit the amount of time we can afford to use them or another forward option in other roles.

Right now I'd argue we will be losing 2 to 3 goals on the scoreboard each game unless the likes of Cox, Varcoe and Thomas can step up and fill the void.

Of course how Stephenson copes mentally will be a concern across the next 10 weeks and supporting him will be a priority for the club but I'm still worried about the player who returns.

Stephenson has been able to ride a wave of goodwill from the wider football community since his debut thanks to his eye catching exploits on field and amiable personality off it but it's fair to say the protective bubble that generally accompanies young AFL players has been burst, he's lost his innocence now and will have to cope with far greater scrutiny from officialdom, the media and more hostile opposition fans who will look to exploit the situation.

I just pray that the Jaidyn we see return is still the Jaidyn who until now has attacked a game of football in a manner that appears bereft of self doubt, one with the confidence to launch a torpedo from 60 and a player filled with the expectation he has the ability to turn the improbable into the possible every time he has the ball.

Nice use of paragraphs.

On a side note, there should be a character limit on posts.
