I’m openly one of those, but I also have a tradition of wrapping my final presents to the Christmas Song Contest playlist (it was fun when The Filth Wizard made us listen to the Pretenders twice for instance), so it feels completely hollow to remove that ‘just because’ .

I don't think it's "just because", JHF has been keen for a 2024 round for a while now and given he won tonight it's entirely his choice.
