Comparing music is a lot more complex than the metrics for fast food.

My point about Bowie is there are people don't like him because of his voice, but we both know he's got a lot more to offer having a lot of influence from classical music.

The video Stokey shared is interesting and I don't disagree. I've talked about it so many times where people listen to music because everyone else is listening to it. Go on instagram and see how many people are using Jack Harlow, and Beyonce on their reels. There is a whole study of psychology on conformity.

I think it's unfair to compare Harlow to Gaga. Not all popular music is equal. Let's be realistic, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Metallica, and Nirvana were all top of the chart bands.
Oh yeah. Throw Beyonce's Texas Hold em in there. Appalling lyrics.
But unlike Swift and GaGa there seems to be a hidden rule that Beyonce can't be questioned.

I'll be honest i might hear the lyrics of a song but not actually take them in, especially in a scenario like this where i'm only listening to a song once. I'm certainly not judging songs in the contest based off lyrics , but that's just the way i approach the song contest.

Most of your noms don't have lyrics.

exactly , i enjoy the music rather than concentrating on lyrics or the singer

I think the result for my nom last week, George Harrison's 'Art of Dying' is one of the most remarkable so far. It is close to his best imho, along with 'What Is Life' and 'Awaiting On You All'. I have been playing it in my head as well as listening to different versions over the last week. The lyrics are fascinating, basically about reincarnation. Wiki has a good article about the song - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_of_Dying_(song)
And the arrangement and music on the All Things Must Pass version are epic, including some amazing guitar from Eric Clapton.
Spookily while I was pondering this, they had a segment on 3AW about 'spine tingling experiences' and someone rang in and nominated George's intro on 'You Can't Do That' :p
For those who might prefer them, here are some different versions.

Cheeses, is Van Gogh your favourite author?

16 year olds would've only just been born when Lady Gaga hit the scene.

Way to make me feel old Loons.

Look forward to the day when 2008-ers join BigFooty and then are 10 years into their time on this website.

I'm already too old for Carlton and St Kilda's lists.

FFS!

My favourite genre doesn't have vocals either. 14mins nom with no vocals and i got more lost in it than I have with any other song with vocals.

I can relate to that :) Many of my favourite songs are instrumental, from all kinds of genres (EDM, post-rock, New Age aka Enya).

I connect with lyrics, and sometimes I don't - it's the melody/beat that gets me. I listen to a lot of LOTE music and if I haven't looked up the lyrical meaning (some don't have one!) I still enjoy it, it's something else keeping me engaged than the words themselves. But I love the sound of other languages too, so there is that!

12 noms so far, and an interesting theme emerging, not complaining.

Lots of stalwarts still yet to nom..... I'll get tagging a bit later.
Tag them now

Hold your freaking horses I'm getting to it!

Bob Dylan says you suck.
And oh, is that Pink Floyd having a sook?
No. Only Roger.
David appreciates a good music listener.

I can be captivated by either really. Hopefully both.

I mean music doesn’t have to have deep lyrics, and a song which lyrically connects to someone may not connect to others.

Eg John Lennon’s Imagine. Incredible for some, banal to others.

As for Taylor Swift, I’m sure her lyrics inspire many, just not in some people’s demographic. I’m not sure Beyoncé is claiming that Texas Hold ‘Em is lyrically a masterpiece, isn’t she making her own point that music is universal and anyone can make music of any genre?
