also... doveton will not be as woeful as people make out.
But i guess you will all have to wait and see. cheers

Last year we finished 1 game out of finals, granted with doveton out it shld have been 2, last we lost to the top team by 10 pts and lost 4 games by under 10 pts, also we didnt have our best team in the ones most of the year and our coach at the time was never there, yeah we have half the senior squad from last year but they are all good players and we have got alot of good players back to the players, all working hard and well together, dont under estimate a change in coach and culture, everything is in place and i garuntee we will be very competitive this year, despite what you think you can assume, remember when you assume you make an ass out of u and me. -----------------------------------------------------------------

With all the change and added numbers, players will have to earn their spots in the senior side, by being disciplined and doing the right thing by the club and the team. If players arent turning up to training, not looking after themselves, not being a team player, then they will miss out and have to work harder to get back into the side. We have the numbers and the quality to be able to do this.
The coach has been fantastic down there... everyone wants to play for him and their fellow team mates. All the negativity is gone, and focusing on positive football.
Once we are a few games in, and we are gelling together, i think we will be a very scary team.

I dont think you should be optimistic? if thats the right word.. for losing several games by such a small margin... All the top sides didn't turn up against you but when it counted, they expect to win, and know how to win. That sounds wierd but sandown was a true bottom of the ladder side last year... if they got close to winning, they either cracked or the opposition stepped up a gear... You can change your culture, but when it comes down to the crunch in the last quarter... i hope thoughts from last year dont start popping up in some players heads ;)

So we are supposed to be pessimistic and have no outlook on a bright future???
I wasnt there last year so i have no idea about how we went against teams, but from what i see at training and how everyone is playing for each other, and a willing to succeed, i can say that we are all optimistic about 2011.
I would think that every club would be optimistic for this year...

any reports from todays praccy matches guys?
managed to see the 3 games
some impressive signs from all signs really, when considering a) its a first hitout and b) many first choice players are still missing/playing cricket c) not training until april!!

Today we had our first hitout down at Edinburgh Reserve.
Some good signs considering we had 9-10 senior players out with cricket commitments. Saw an absolute screamer in the 2nd quater by a young up and comer.
In the end we went down by about 6 goals against a really well drilled Nunawding side that had already had 2 practise matches to gel. They have also recruited well in the preaseason

Tyson Aldenhoven (NFL), Adam Baltruweit, Aden Chynoweth (Balwyn), Tim Binks (Mitcham), Jason Cant, Tom Denham (Norwood), Stephen Fry (Vermont), Brad Harrington (Kilsyth), Matthew Hood (South Australian Amateur Football League), Peter James, Martin Mcgauran, Ryan Mckenzie, Brett Shalders, Mark Shalders, Luke Walter, Matt Whitty (Cheltenham), Samuel Maskell (VAFA), Patrick Mcmanus (Glen Waverley Hawks), Gregory Papanikolaou (Knox), Michael Parkes (North Ringwood), Shane Quintal (VAFA), Michael Ritchie (Kilsyth), Ayden Sukkel (North Ringwood).

Next week we will be upto full strength, a praccy game under our belt.
I hope the dragons are as eager as we are.

Yeah thought it was the wrong word.... just saw all your "positives" from the previous year and just implying you should scratch a few of those off your lists cause there were not many positives last year :D

I wasnt at Sandown last year, and i have never mentioned of anything that happened last year. We are focusing on this year. The past is the past. From what i heard, the club was not coached well, not doing the disciplined things etc.... Apparently their was a bad culture... that has been rectified over the last 5 months and being instilled into every single player, from the best player in the 1sts right down to everyone in the 3rds.

Bigbadborwny, who did you guys play??? give us a review if you can please.

we have a hitout at Nyora tomorrow...as with most this time of year, a few out, a few undecided, but there has been great numbers and feeling out on the track, so hopefully tomorrow is the next step towards a positive year for the falcons.

saw the dandy/beena games, think dandy were missiing a large number of players, but still had good passages
then moved to lyndale/swan hill area team? lyndale seemed to also have provided a large number of the visitors players, so hard to get a gauge, but they moved the ball well
then down to sandown to watch the game against nunawading, who were impressive, but sandown held their own for large patches and their skill level was excellent..the best standard game of the three by quite a way

Should have came over and introduced yourself :D
Its great how all the games are so close to each other, and people are able to get down and see some of the local talent. The atmnosphere was great today. The ground was in good condition.
As i said earlier, gonna take a few games to gel together, and we still have 9-10 players to come in.
Any players to look out for from the other games???

Lyndale played my side Lalbert in a 6 quarter game. First 3 quarters being a "reserves' game where we were a bit short so some Lyndale lads suited up for us which meant everbody got a good hit out.

The final 3 quarters was a "seniors" game. No scores were kept however I think we came out on top but having said that Lyndale have certainly improved quite a bit from the game last year.

Thanks to the Lyndale Footy Club for a great day and good luck for the season to come:thumbsu:

any word on the sunday games? southern dragons playing in box hill? and endeavour hills playing niora? how did everyone go? next week will be a good show as to where all teams are at coming to round 1 with cricket finished finally and all clubs should be able to post a strong list of players it will be interesting to see the teams and the results coming from next weeks games

Yeah, i have played against him when he was at stkilda city, not a bad player, will do well in div 3. Howd the mead boys go???

Went down and watched Box Hill play the Southern Dragons on sunday. It was a pretty even hit out with some good passages of play. I think like all practice matches, everyone was keen to get in the thick of it. After a gruelling pre season (3 a week training sessions) it was interesting to see a number of the Box Hill players cramping. I am aware of the heat but that cant be a good sign.

Nuske 11 straight, not a bad effort.

Really good hit out with the dragons. They have improved a lot from last year. Agree there were a few going down cramping but majority of those guys had just arrived last week. Box Hill still have around 15-20 players to come back so looking to improve on last year. Will be good hit out with Sth Mornington this weekend.

Happy Birthday - from the VAFA Div. 4 thread

Reserves had a dominant first half then had the reverse second half, box hill came out on top. Watched a quarter of the ones, didn't think I was watching a practice game, they went hammer and tongs...great standard. What made it difficult to observe the standard was the size of the ground we played on is a bit smaller than any SFL ground made it a lot more crowded and congested even more so when all blokes are chasing a kick this early of the year. From what I can see, my team have loads to improve on, which the boys will. This weeks games vs cobras should be good but certainly won't be out there to break any records, injuries biggest downer this time of the year and against the snakes best leave some in the bag for the real stuff! I'm sure the snakes here will say the same. Nevertheless, good to have the Footy back. How did the falcons go?

Will Endeavour Hills have two full teams this season? Not a trolling post, I'm genuinely curious as to how they'll go, list-wise, with recruiting two full squads.

The falcons will certainly have two sides up this year, 53 players have signed clearances with more to come (and if anyone else wants to come have a kick theyre more than welcome :))
The praccy match against nyora was a great hitout and a high standard game for about 4 of the 6 quarters.
One thing that really shocked me is how many blokes we have under 21-22. At least 10+ who will be pushing hard for ones selection.
Defensively we were pretty good for large parts of the game, but fell away late in the hot conditions; tackling was excellent and moved the ball quickly, but we missed a few forwards who didnt make the 1hr trip and should be back for our next 2 praccy matches.
The spirit around the joint is fantastic at the moment, just need some more time training and playing together to really hit our straps.
Pretty sure we had a number of what will be our 1's out, but were 4 goals down after 4 quarters (may have eventually gone down by 20+ in the end, so the last two quarters were a real blowout) but with some more training, gelling of players and a few more experienced players in, we should be competitive!

Sunday game against Boxhill was a great game. It was really tough... i havent played in that kind of heat for a longggggggg time. The ground was a serious 2 kicks from goals so not really made for Dragons Footy.

this is why us players who get paid don't play practice matches:D:D:D
