I Heard a nasty rumour on the weekend that D.Black from Dandy had Broken his arm playing against Sth Yarra on the weekend late in the 1st half....

If this is true this would be a shocking loss to Dandy, along the same lines as Kreskas to Sandown!!

Which Poses the question, Which Player in your team would make the biggest difference if injured for a substantial time??

Mt Waverly: S.Constantino, Jeffries
Sandown: Kreskas, Sheedy
Cerberus: Cers, Darvill
Black Rock: Owen, Sim
Cantebury: ????
Sth Yarra: Neville, Smith
Dandy: Black, O'Donnell
Skye: Stephens, McCarthy

There my opinions.

I'm gunna go do a little work, and then come Back and rate my top 10 players of this year... I feel I have seen enough footy to be able to do that....

Any from the Eagles.

Any from the Eagles.

Sorry My Bad

Clearly from the eagles is D.Thomas, class act really impressed me when I watched him play the 2nd time. Obviously this bloke from lyndale, I cant remember his name.....

and also Number 3 who did a good job on Barr when we played, but not sure how important he is to there structure....

seen everyone this year so i'll have a crack and see how we go with a top 10 plus one!!! in no particular order
Colbert-doveton, Black-dandenong, Willkin-Mt waverly, Pearce-canterbury, Willmont-black rock, Thomas-doveton, Jenkins-canterbury, Owen-black rock, Sheedy-sandown, Carrol-canterbury, Baker-canterbury.
Probably missed a few but hard to single out just 10 (plus one)

Ok, Have seen everyone as well, tough to seperate just 10, I am also going to make a comparisment to an AFL player. Obviously there not as good as the AFL player, but just a Hyperthetical...

e.g. I have always thought of myself as a Ryan O'Connor type Forward Ruckmen!!!

Anyways:

1. D. Black (Dandy)
Has Pace and Knows how to use it. Has a Great leap and Knows how to use it. Has Great Endurance and Knows how to use it. Has good height and Knows how to use it. After seeing him in 1 game I can not speak highly enough of this bloke as a player. Would Love to play against him I can only hope he will be at Dandy next year so I can try and go toe to toe with him!!!
AFL Comparisment: Brett Burton

2. D.Thomas (Doveton)
When watching football you can always tell the players who have natural class and players who are workhorses without the finess. This bloke is pure Class and showed it against Us. Great Skills and extremely elusive.
AFL Comparisment: Shaun Burgoyne

3. Corey Stephens (Skye)
Ok call me Biast if you want I dont care. Obviously I have seen alot of him and thats probaly why I rate him so Highly. The guy is a gun and only 28 which means there is still 5 good years at least left in him. Can Play Back, Forward or on the Ball if only we had 3 of him!!
AFL Comparisment: Mathew Pavlich

4. Shane Costintino (Mt waverly)
I rate this Bloke very Highly. Obviously so do Mt with him being there captain, just seems to me to be a workhorse, with no real 1 ability standing out just seems to get the ball and know what to do with it. I remember watching him against Black Rock in the final last year and he did everything possible to get his team over the line that day. Brave player!!
AFL Comparisment: Peter Bell

5. Robbie Kreskas (Sandown)
This is a God Damn Shame what happened to this bloke!! Once again I hope he comes back Next year because I look forward to playing against this bloke!! One of the nicest blokes I have met also!! Great Player, his size and strength make him almost impossible to match up on as a midfeilder!!
AFL Comparisment: Anthony koutifides (in his hey dey)

6. Tim Sim (Black Rock)
Rate this bloke highly after watching him last week. Might have a slight attitude but its only cause the bloke is giving everything, thats how I read the situation anyways. Seems to be a goal kicker half forward midfeild type.
AFL Comparisment: Paul Chapman

7. Clint Sheedy (Sandown)
Obviously there main weapon now. He has a little support from Love, Mully and a few others but leading goal Kicker means he is the most deadly forward in the comp currently.
AFL Comparisment: Mathew Richardson (but shorter)

8. Daniel Pearce (Cantebury)
Didnt think he played his best game against us, but was very good against Black Rock and lead his team well. Seems to know where to run to get the ball and uses it well.
AFL Comparisment: Drew Banfeild??

9. Nick Owen (Black Rock)
Was dissapointed with his first 3 qtrs last week but in the Last he showed how good he can be. Massive leap and great contested Mark. Could be outstanding if he wanted to be Id say!!
AFL Comparisment: Travis Cloke

10. Dean McCarthy (Skye)
Nobody could possibly knock this bloke. The toughest bloke I have ever played with, runs hard at the ball no matter what situation the game is in. It is killing me sitting on the sidelines as this bloke gets smashed every week for little reward and there aint anything I can do about it!! Great overhead mark for his size I have noticed lately!!
AFL Comparisment: Adam simpson

apologies to:
11. S.Anderson
12. B.Colbert
13. C.Love
14. M.Cers
15. Wilkin
16. Jeffries
17. B.O'Donnell
18. Neville
19. J.Smith
20. T.Barr

Just my opinion, feel free to criticize....

you have to add Wilmott in there his about number 2 or 3 he is a superstar just plays at the ball does not care about fighting or what the umpire has to say!

Good work Madman im not going to really criticize but.... I have a question though and im not trying to be smart. What are you basing these rankings on, you couldn't have possibly seen everyone play more than a couple times. Are you just looking at who is in the best each week or rating guys on when you have seen them. Anyway good on ya for having a crack.

Would just like to say though, Wilkin for Mt Waverly is easily in the top 10. In fact i would personally have him very high in the top 10.

Plus maybe you could give the numbers of these players you have ranked coz we dont all know the names.

Peace

I am basing all this on the last 2 1/2 years I have obviously watched and played in Div 3 southern.

Its all just personal opinions really, Wilmott was a little stiff, I understand he has a massive reputation and I am not doubting his ability, I havent seen him tear apart a team yet, when I do no doubt my opinion will change!!

Wilkin is someone who I keep forgetting to watch, is he the CHF/Backup ruckmen?? Young tall blonde headed bloke?? If he is then yes he is a genuine star!! I didnt add him purely because I wasnt sure who he is!! I know that the CHF/Ruckmen, young blonde headed kid from Mt is a gun!! Just always forget his name!!

Nah you've got the wrong bloke. You're thinking about Roberts. However your right in saying he's a gun. Just keeps working all day and provides a contest all over the park. Also got a great set of hands.
Wilkin is our starting ruckman. No. 1. Pretty much rucks all day, maybe a 5 min rest a quarter if he's lucky. Got a great leap, and great athleticism. Hasn't be beaten this year IMO. He would have to be looking pretty good in the league B&F so far this year.

Just on your top 10 players, you have 2 Skye players (obviously because you see them every week) and 2 Sandown players. Just curious to your reasoning considering it would be fair to say that both sides are having poor years so far.

Yeah Fair enough I understand your sceptisism on the sandown and skye Blokes!! I have always said a Champion team will beat a team of champions!! Stephens and McCarthy as well as Sheedy and Kreskas are qaulity players who guts it out no matter what. Sometimes when teams are struggling it is easy for players just to give in and who cares,e.g Fevola last weekend!!

When the chips are down, and the team is not clicking I feel it shows real charachter to keep busting your a$$ and put your body on the line!! I probaly learnt this during my years at Carrum Downs, a very tough lesson to learn everyweek for 4 years!!

I understandit may be a little biased, but when a team is winning it can get pretty easy to get a kick and dominate the game, when a team is losing, and a player is standing out for a losing team that shows some fair mental skills, we all know footy is 90% in the head!!

But your right, I put Sheedy in because he is the leading goalkicker in the league, that counts for something, I would probaly say that Owen is a better player but sheedy has the runs on the board at the moment!!

There could be about 5 Black Rock blokes that couldve made the Top 10, AS,Neville from Sth Yarra probaly shouldve made the top 10, but I have never seen him play!! even though he played for Nth Kew last year he never played against me in a game so hard to tell how good he is personally!!

Your right though, probaly a mistake on my front, at seasons end I will re-address this and see how close I am to the league B&F??

My tips for 2moro are

Canterbury v Mt Wav ( Too much class and height )
Skye v Black Rock ( Bombers on the rise )
Cerberus v Doveton Weagles ( Tough game at the base )
Sth Yarra v Sandown ( Sheedy to kick 7 )

See the bombers fly up up to take the ????

Yeah, fair enough.
I agree with everything you've said. I know personally I wouldn't have much idea about the leagues best players, so you've done a better job than I'd be able to.:thumbsu:
Good luck on the weekend. Hopefully you guys can do us a favour and repeat your last preformance against BR.

I heard young Handfeild played in Black Rocks 2's last week, I wonder if he will be playing in there Seniors this week against Skye??

He did play twos for the rocker boys last week. Barring any late changes, he will be there starting on the pine in the ones this week. That's the word around rocker town anyway, i could be misinformed yet again as I was unable to make it down to the club last night.

Kreskas fed Sheedy last time, could be a different story. Apparently South Yarra have found it hard to win at Sandown, should be interesting with the Yarras coming off two straight massive wins and with as full a list as they've had this year.

Great read with the AFL players MadMan. I can see why Adam Neville was left out. It's hard to compare him to anyone since Jesus never played AFL. :D

Also should have covered Nick Coutts. I'd compare him to Buckley, Ricciutto or Hamill. Could be alright if he ever got on the park... :p

agree with them all!!:thumbsu: sorry madman, but this could be the end of the runway for the bombers!

Hahaha, that is some excellent pun. Well it made me laugh anyway.

I think all games to be close this week, i dunno if i wanna tip. I think doveton will bounce back strongly, they aren't the kind to lose 2 in a row, so maybe that will get them over the line. The rider tipped canterbury cos of home ground, i honestly don't think their ground is a big home ground advantage, but i'll still tip them. And I think the yarras are making a big run, is this what they have been talking about on here all year? I dunno, but another close maybe, maybe cobras in a thriller, dunno it's a tough one.

Benchman, you're kidding if you don't think Cantebury's home ground isn't an advantage. They got some great scalps over the last few years in 2nd Div on their long skinny ground and will claim more in the future.

might be in the future, not today. Very intersting top 3.... MW beaten Cants twice this year (will stand corrected) BR smashed by Cants rnd 1 lost by 2 points and beaten MW. Looks like an intersting game in two weeks.

Not sure about Dande and Dufften as the 4 th side. both have been beaten by top sides easily recently.

Don't forget that dande smashed the mounters, will probably be a different story next time, but still...

Any truth that MT ruckman, wilkin, did an injury today and will be out for 2-3? Big loss if it's true... Also any truth to the rumor that the young running mountain lions somehow out toughed and out bustled the more experienced (and you would expect, bigger bodied) cobras today? Or was it just their usual running game?
