Was reading in todays Mercury, that Hobart are going to be playing games at snug in "the heart of the clubs recruitment zone"

This is already the beginning of the end of SWL
Must admit, I thought it was a rather curious move when I read it.
I personally don't mind us playing a game down at Queenborough but really don't want to watch us play at Snug.
I attended the two games Hobart & Sandy Bay played down there in 1994 and 1995 and despite good attendances (2,421 & 1,487) I found it to be one of the worst viewing grounds I've ever watched footy at.
I note that Clarence is being touted as playing games at Oatlands and Richmond as well, I wonder whether both Hobart and Clarence will be playing games in those regions against low drawing teams to stave off inevitable financial losses from poor home attendances.

Remember the southern cats playing at Huonville.......... didnt work
To be fair, the Southern Cats were a club started from scratch with no history or credibility.
They were loosely based at North Hobart but wanted to get in being a big part of the Huon, only trouble was, the Huon based fans already had their own clubs and didn't take kindly to the Cats trying to muscle in on their area.
The Majestic (that sometimes posts on here) can tell you more about the reception they got when they played Glenorchy down there in their first year.

Hobart have NO SUPPORT in the south,
Not anymore they don't. Sadly.
Hobart had a solid, but nevertheless traditionally fickle fanbase throughout the years (not as big as the "Big 4" obviously) but since the mid 90's that support has dropped away very, very badly.
It fell away even further when they dropped the Tigers emblem and jumper when they entered the SFL (but still had a solid core of support) but as is commonly known the major damage was when they elected to go the Lions-route at the end of 2004.
They still can't get people once involved with them to acknowledge the club since they did that and despite the club returning to the Tigers this season, anecdotally the number of supporters around the club whilst better, still isn't up to what it was even 9-10 years ago.
Membership is about even at this point with what it was for the entire year last year, but even that is quite small-fry compared to many other clubs.
Interesting to note, Glenorchy, despite being premiers last year had a membership figure compareable to Hobart's!
Also too, the Huon used to be an area which Hobart was very well supported in even as late as a decade ago, this year is going to be a year in which things will be very interesting to see just what our support level is, not only up here in town but down there.
I'm genuinely hoping the damage hasn't been irreparable - we will see...
If things do eventually improve, I believe it will take many, many years.

What are Hobart doing to promote football to juniors in there zone.... NOTHING
What happens to the 300 kids playing underage for Kingborough, do they expect the to go to Hobart FC.......... wont happen.
Given that I've not set foot in the place in 8 months I can't comment on this one.
I would hope they are doing something constructive though.
I'll see more when I finally get time to be around the club, hopefully Good Friday :thumbsu:

Hobart and Kingborough have a very frosty relationship, now the expect to pick up there players...
It will always be a frosty one too. Bitter HATRED is more accurate LOL :thumbsu:
Especially while Messrs Herweynan & Evans are involved at Kingborough.
Their attitude won't be forgotten in a great hurry by anyone at Hobart let me tell ya!
Unbelievable!
If only both clubs had sat down and worked TOGETHER all those years ago..

Thats why the young players that wanted to play in the SW went to Clarence with Blighty....
Don't they have to get clearances now? How does the new system all work?
I plead ignorance because I really haven't had the time nor inclination to sit down and go through it all. :)

Im pretty sure that Herweynan is still in charge down there, but Evans left a couple of years ago:):):):):):)

Also have heard that the new roster is awaiting confirmation. 20 rounds, everybody plays each other twice ( that god )

Stating next week 27th of March, can anybody confirm??????

Everyone won't play each other twice from what I hear. 20 Round = 8 twice, 2 once, 2 byes.

Will start on April 4th as per old roster.

The start of the new SFL and the new zones show why the swl should of not been rushed like it has. I hope it works but to be up and running in under 1 year there are going to be some minor and major hicups. Look at the sfl with what 2-3 weeks before round 1 and loosing a team show what impact the rushed swl has had.
Hobart and Kingston should build a bridge and try to make the situation benifit both clubs.

Kingpin back at Hobart. Pigs do fly

It appears the powers to be at the SFL are brain dead as they cant agree on a solution , at least three changes in the last 24 hours. to their still unconfirmed final roster, what happens to the printed circulating roster/ TOTAL CONFUSION>

The old roster is dead and buried.

Their have been no changes apart from dates that I am aware of,

The new roster is pretty much set. It is only the issue of whether to play on Easter and/or do away with the Rep game that is being debated.

1st Round of matches will be the same, apart from Lindisfarne and Brighton swapping home games.

Kingborough under Kermandies favourite son Adam Henley appear to have been the big winners from the Robins demise.... Andrew Nash and Leigh Savage having trained with the Tigers during the week. These two can seriously play and will be huge acquisitions to Henleys Tigers.... Savage has more ability than most and will suprise some with his second and third efforts. Nash is a workhorse with a huge work ethic and a great set of hands, rucked Kermandie single handed to two flags. Would have been a few clubs trying to get these two....particularly Huonville. The hatred between the two Huon clubs and the drawing power of Henley won out....thank god..

Any suggestions from anyone as to who Kermandie should be looking at to coach them in 2010....needs to be a player with a profile and drawing power. The Robins are cashed up and determined to be a part of the competition in 2010.....

Kingbourgh are playing a practice match against St. Virgils at Snug today, be intresting to see what both teams have. Have heard that its a 6 quarter game, with seniors playing the first 3 quarters followed by the reserves.

You are spot on JUST THE SAME ONLY DIFFERENT.

What I meant is there have been no chances to the NEW 20 ROUND roster.

The old 18 round roster is DEAD.

The NEW 20 round roster distributed to clubs will be used. Just the dates for it are not finalised.

I was told today the SFL want to drop the REP game ,but AFL Tas want it kept.

typical it is a bloody mess. That is what happens when things are rushed and not thought out

What was rushed and not thought out?

Not as if Kermandie gave the league 6 months notice so things could be done in a nice orderly fashion. That isn't a knock against Kermandie, bit how could things not be rushed when an entirely new roster has to be drawn up and be printed less than 2 weeks before the start of a season.

My inbred source told me last night Savage played with Cygnet yesterday v Hutchins!

Have heard that Savage trained at Kingborough on Wednesday night and then trained at Glenorchy on Thursday night, so must still be looking for a new home.

Kingborough and St. Virgils played a game yesterday, both side had a heap out through cricket etc, Kingborough seniors played the first 3 quarters and were 60 points in front, didnt see any after that. To be honest both side looked ok, but still require a bit of work although was pretty warm at snug.

Is that the same Andrew Nash that used to be from the coast? Played abit of basketball aswell??

Nash played in Glenorchy's intra club practice game at Abbotsfield Park today.

You missed the point.

AFL TAS rushed through this whole SWL and this is the result. If they waited 1 more year and done some more investigating they might of seent that some clubs might go. This has reuulted in the new roster ect.
The AFLTAS people are only thinking of their own personal goals.

I am not having a go at Kermandie but the opposite.

pete innes the bg full forward is hoping to move back to tas he says his body is in good shape, he was disapointed that his former club kermandie had folded but added he may as well have a run with dodges fresh news!!!
