Never. Waste of time.
Well he's training with us, so somebody sees something. My bet is there has never been a more physical footballer on any list at his size, weight and speed. Worth investigating over summer. Someone similar was Carmichael Hunt, but he was only 186cm and had played little football. Filau is 195cm and played some good football in the VFL, so a long way ahead.

Lefau doesnt need to dominate games and has time to adapt and learn under our development and senior coaching

He is 23 years old and still young enough to get another 5-6-7 years in a career after 2 years of development
He has all the things you want a KPF to have speed size leap and mongrol

Just need to consider him a project and he already has played a couple of years and knows the game which is alot more than somebody like mason cox did

No issue with giving him a go

Yeah, he's 26 in January. Waste. Of. Time.

why do so many people think he's 23? Did one person just say it and everyone just followed?
Think it’s because of the article on the afl app they way it’s written it implies he is 23 but it’s actually referring to when he started playing vfl level

“Lefau moved from Auckland to Melbourne in 2012 and spent time in Melbourne Storm's development program before deciding to focus on football rather than rugby league.

The 23-year-old played some games for the Casey Demons before the pandemic, then returned to local football level where he played for St Kilda City in the Southern Football Club.”

Ahhh gotchya! That makes sense as even on facebook several people were saying 23. Really had me second guessing.

Yeah it’s not very well written and I can absolutely understand why it’s causing some confusion

Marlion Pickett came to us aged 27. Played in a flag in his first year albeit that was his only AFL game. Will end up a more than useful 100 odd gamer.

Tarrant came aged 32, albeit as a proven AFL player, and was a fairly important player in our run at finals in 2022.

Anyone who can make a difference in helping the team perform better is not a waste of time. Waste of time I would think is more appropriately used to describe a player who does not help the team perform better. And that could equally be an 18yo as a 26yo.

Still would rather a younger player TBH.

Yeah but you are comparing footballers that were proven.

Marlion was a proven Jet in the WAFL and Tarrant, well enough said.

You cant compare the above to a 26 year old who needs to learn the game.

Only works if the young player reads higher on the performance-potential continuum than Lefau. There wouldn't be many young players who can do what Lefau can do. There may not be any. Get him onto the paddock and hurting campaigners ASAP.

No free hits policy please Richmond. Teams play us they may hurt us or not. But us hurting them needs to be not negotiable.

Hmmmm is Lefau really dominating the VFL though? Don't think the guy has ever had more than 20 possessions in a game. At 26 years of age I doubt he is then going to play even better in the AFL.

Would rather give a spot to a kid who could develop his game over a few seasons and still have time ahead of him.

I suppose this is the thing with footballers who don't really have precedents, like Lefau. There is no strong evidence that it will work, and not strong evidence that it won't work. So you give it a go. You might get a a final and win it because Lefau physically destroys a Tom Stewart or Lever or whoever, whist also having some score impact. I personally think we under-rate the value of specialised nullifiers and over-rate the need for your 16th 17th 18th most important ball user to be able to create scoring impact.

If you want a guy to dominate by getting loads of the ball and doing damage with it, Lefau is definitely not your man.

If you want a player to impact physically and win or help team-mates win key contests, then let me introduce you to Mr. Mykelti Lefau Esq. :)

Pickett dominated WAFL for 4 years before we picked him plus we were in a position to be able to top up with someone like that. Tarrant was proven AFL quality.

Not the same.

That is a fair opinion :thumbsu:

Yep it was the article that got me and looked at the 23 years part
