how does the standard of racing in australia compare to other horse racing countries ie: hong kong, japan, us, uk, mainland europe and maybe some others.
obviously there are different rules, breeding focuses and other factors but just wondering where people think australian racing stands in the scheme of things on a world scale:thumbsu:

Week to week racing its up with the very best if not the best.
Top racing such as Black type its below the top line but every now & then we get one that is right in that top class.

Out sprinters tho are the best in the world.

I really enjoy UK racing. Big fields and competitve racing and the races are not all staying races as they used to be many years ago.

On a state by state basis :

Victoria : Easily the best. Diversity of trainers and jockeys, mixture of sprints, middle distance and stayers (and jumps during winter) plus good sized fields the majority of the time.

Queensland : I like Qld racing just because they have good sized fields plus variety with their jockeys. Quality of horses aren't fantastic and they could have more staying races but other than that its quite competitive.

NSW : Pathetic and getting worse. Races are dominated by Waterhouse and Snowden, Shinn and Rawiller. 5 out of 8 races will have fields of 8 runners or less and the others will usually have about 10 or 11. Too many odds on pops with no value make for boring racing. Quality is reasonable but I enjoy the races for betting and if there is no value I'm not interested.

SA : Used to be okay but now it just has a sameness to it every week. I really miss Victoria Park. Fields are getting smaller and gererally there isn't much to get excited about.

WA : Suffers from only having two main tracks but the racing is getting better. Field sizes are improving though. One problem I do have with WA racing is the amount of on-pacers that win. Maybe thats just Ascot and Belmont. Wouldn't mind them getting another track with a big, long straight.

agree with fresh, we have the best sprinters in the world, as we breed for speed.

our stayers are below average, due to breeding, and lack of staying races around.

when our horses travel anywhere in the world, we are always competitive which indicates we are just as good as any other country in the world.
