Re: VFL and State Leagues

The Mighty Subi wore a special heritage jumper on the weekend, celebrating the induction of another 5 Diehards.
sfc%20v%20perth%2026%20june.jpg

It was the jumper worn in the years 1953-4, wind feature the names of every player to have played a league game for the club in the maroon stripes, with the Team of the Century announced 2 years ago under the neckbar.

Can't wait to get my hands on one soon.

See this is what I am struggling with getting onto the website.
It's difficult enough to make a list of Hawthorn premiership players, but how do I make a list of everyone who played for Subiaco. Or Central Districts.
It's not like that sort of information is readily accessible.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

You would probably have to contact the clubs directly.

SANFL clubs are pretty helpful and such with most things and should be able to send you some info.

That's an insane level of completism - it's commendable to show that level of dedication, but you're making far too much work for yourself. Like the others have said, use other text as a placeholder. ETAOIN SHRDLU comes to mind. Or "Gvhftr Kijl" from The Chaser. It doesn't need to be painstakingly accurate... and at low resolution, nobody's going to see the names anyway. You avoid any obscure licensing issue of using player names. (E.g. AFL Wii which can't use any past players) And if you don't use real names, the less likely people are to steal your work because it's "less accurate"... encourages others to make a better effort if they wish.

The other tack: it's a one-off jumper, so don't include it. If it's based on an old design, the old design would have been worn for at least one full season, so it'll figure in the list anyway. If others really want something included, let them research, create and forward it on, saves you the work.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

You could also have some place holding text and say in the notes column that if anyone has the real text to email you.

Heritage jumpers are almost never the same as the Heritage jumper they are supposed to be representing. And then there's the "you haven't included the Heritage jumper from 20xx" emails.

I will consider the Lorem Ipsum idea, at least until I get the correct names, however abhorent the idea seems to me at the moment.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

How to counter the "you haven't got" emails: have an FAQ...

Q: Why haven't you got [insert team's] one-off jumper from [insert date]?

A: This is a hobby. While I take great pains to provide accuracy, the volume of one-off jumpers teams wear in the modern era mean that it often isn't possible to reproduce every single variation in existence. Sending me emails asking this question will be ignored!

Speaking of interesting jumpers, I liked North Ballarat's colourful one from last weekend.

Posted this in another forum, but felt it also belonged here- New Strip for the Woodville West Torrens SANFL club

Have also had some ideas for some Mergers, just for the hell of it;

West Adelaide and South Adelaide merge to become the Southern Blood Panthers (i just love the name, sorry about the numbers on the back if any one has them claimed)

and Port Magpies avoid financial ruin by merging with South to become the Port Panthers

i did something very similar to this in another thread. a case of smart minds think alike.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

Is the WAFL the only league that has numbers on the front. Pardon my ignorance if it's not.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

oh OK
It looks like the TAC ones are on the heart but the WAFL ones are on the other side

Re: VFL and State Leagues

Just completed this Sturt jumper. Might do few more if you like it. I wasn't sure if the SANFL clubs had sponsors on the back. I tried to get as much detail as I could. Thoughts/Suggestions?

You legend....and it's the club I follow! This shade of Light Blue is a bit darker than what they wear but it is closer to the shade of the lace-up jersey they used to wear.Thanks.
...and BTW, Sturt have white numbers.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

I've been working on SANFL clubs as well, like I said I was going to do after I finished the AFL guide. I only have Centrals and Norwood at the moment, I'm almost finished WWTFC.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

Norwood's away is an inversion of the body and the cuffs, but other then that, good job Gava.

Ahh thanks mate! I assumed they would have one but guess I didn't look hard enough through photos. Will fix that up shortly. I'm sure there are plenty of people on this board who know the SANFL much better than myself, please post pictures if I have missed something which undoubtedly have..

Re: VFL and State Leagues

Would anyone knowledgable in the SANFL be able to tell me if Glenelg ever wear white shorts or have a clash jumper? I can't find any pictures of either of them, but would be strange to have a predominantly dark team with only one kit. Cheers, Gava.

Re: VFL and State Leagues

They have an inversion as well. They don't wear it much that I know of, but the zone squads wear it, and I'd assume they'd wear it at least against Wests.
They also have this 90th Anniversary jumper too.
