The Eagles tonight won even though they only scored 1 in the second half. How often has a team won kicking 1 goal in a half?
2015 Round 16 saw Melbourne win by 24 points over Brisbane even though they scored just 1 goal in the second half. I'm pretty sure that's the last time this happened. Sorry, I'm not sober enough to answer the question fully, at the moment!!! Anyone else?

Thanks mate! I make it 123 times where a team has scored just 1 goal in the second half but won the game. Just 14 times since 1960. Please note the (sobriety related) disclaimer from an hour or so ago! But it's very likely to be correct.

Edit: Just read the question again and realised it asked about match winners scoring just 1 goal in any half!! My answer was obviously just in relation to the 2nd half!

135 times where a team has scored 1 goal in the 1st half but won the game. 28 times since 1960, with Sydney in 2015 Round 1 being the last to achieve it (72-60 vs. Essendon).

He is a marvel that is for sure. I like your avatar better. A younger more dynamic Daicos from footy cards around 1981ish I would think. As a younger star he was more midfield plus forward rather than just pure forward he was later on. The most exciting Collingwood player I seen in my life. Fitting nickname Louie The Lip gave him of The Macedonian Marvel.

RIP Lou, you little legend!!!

Does this stat exist, and if so does anybody have anything for it: targets inside 50, i.e. how many times a player is kicked to inside their forward 50 (like how NFL receivers have target statistics when the QB throws them the ball and catch statistics for when they actually follow through and make the catch). If it is, surely Josh Kennedy leads the league by a mile.
It is captured but not publically available. I would have thought other players like Hawkins would be up there too.

Damn selfish champion data! :p would love to see those numbers, would be very interesting for FFs. I think I remember them showing it on the telecast a month or so ago in an eagles game, JJK had 6 targets inside 50 (or some similar stat) and the next most was 2!

What's the top ten parity of games and goals for a player?

e.g. Paul Puopolo has 140 games / 140 goals.

Puopolo's out of sync after yesterday.

What are the top 10 most hit-outs on debut? I understand Richmond's Ivan Soldo, with his 42 versus Western Bulldogs on the weekend, set a new record.

From the book Grand Finals Volume I (1934):- "Richmond's team had one of the most famous full-back lines of all-time. Kevin O'Neill, Maurie Sheahan and Martin Bolger played in that formation for 90 games from 1930 to '36. Between the three of them they had a winning mix of steadiness and adventure. When playing South Melbourne, they worked as a unit to bump and fluster Pratt off his game."

Which coaches have taken the fewest games to register a win against each opponent? (Regardless of the number of teams in the competition)
I hope this question isn't too difficult to tabulate, as there have been many coaches who have coached more than one team, and you could then take into account their record when they began coaching against their first club. And then their second, third, etc. I was thinking specifically of a coach being in charge of one team and registering wins over every other team in the league. This question was inspired by reading that Geelong is the only team that Luke Beveridge has not yet registered a win against. Beveridge has coached only 57 games so far, and obviously Western Bulldogs is the only team he has coached.

What are the win loss records for each team in round nine?

In terms of win/loss percentage, what has been the most successful round for the Bulldogs in their 93 seasons?
ROUND 9
upload_2017-5-17_21-16-10.png

Round 24 with 75% (3W 1L). Round 12 comes next with 64.67% Match Percentage (58W 31L 3D - 63.0%W, 33.7%L, 3.3%D).

Love your work, Daicos.

Bulldogs won all seven of their round nine matches between 1996-2002. I am surprised they have the equal worst round nine record.
I just did a quick (manual) check and came up with a mere 15 Wins (35 Losses) from the Bulldogs' first 50 Round 9 games, so they really were up against it from the start!

In terms of Match Percentage and Win Percentage they do rank 16th (of the 20 sides who have played in the competition) for rd. 9, but they are obviously equal worst with St Kilda in terms of +/- figures.

The guidelines will necessarily be a bit flexible. Note however that the following record-holders are all one-club coaches.

Alan Belcher coached Essendon to wins against all 9 opposition clubs (at the time) after 10 games in 1910.

Dave Smith did the same after 12 games in 1908-09.

Playing coach Cliff Rankin led Geelong to wins over their 11 rivals after 12 games, 1925.

Charlie Clymo had coached Geelong to wins over all 11 opponents after 14 games in his sole, premiership-winning, season of 1931.

Ray Brew, Jack Dyer, Alan McDonald and Peter Pianto defeated all 11 opponents after 20 games. McDonald is a bit of an outlier, as Richmond wasn't a strong team in that era.

Adam Simpson defeated 17 opponents after 46 games, John Longmire 48.

The Scott brothers, Hinkley and Clarkson are the other current coaches to have beaten 17 opponents. James Hird is also (perhaps surprisingly) on the list.

Wayne Schimmelbusch defeated 13 opponents after 51 games, Graham Cornes 14 after 64, Dean Laidley 15 after 54.

Nathan Buckley had coached in wins against 16 opponents after just 27 games, but still hasn't mastered Hawthorn after 118 games.

------

Mick Malthouse (674 games) is the only coach to have wins over 19 opponents, Ross Lyon (137) and Rodney Eade (298) the only coaches to beat 18.

Vic Belcher (135) and Norman Clark (178) had wins against 13 opponents, despite a maximum of 12 teams competing in their eras.

Denis Pagan (245) and David Parkin (467) coached in wins over 17 opponents, despite only officiating in 16-team (maximum) competitions.

That's just nine years out of almost 100 for the Bulldogs though. That Round 9 chart roughly reflects the overall most/least successful teams over the 120 years of the league. I would expect that most rounds would have a similar pattern.

Do any of the current coaches have a better record away from home than Adam Simpson? Also is it possible to see where he ranks all time?

I know this may be difficult considering Melbourne teams playing at their home ground are away teams, but I wouldn't consider them as playing away.

Quite difficult and a bit subjective. Is Richmond v West Coast @ Waverley, a home game for Richmond?

In any case I'm not set up to do it without creating a "home ground" table containing year/club/ground for every season.

Don Pyke has wins against 15 opponents in 32 games. The Crows need to defeat Geelong Rd 11 and the Bulldogs Rd 16 for a perfect start. Giving Pyke wins against all opponents (WAAO) after 39 games*

Fingers crossed

How many teams have lost in round nine before winning every game for the rest of the season?

I know Carlton and Brisbane did it in 1995 and 2001 respectively while Geelong almost did it in 2008 but their only loss after round nine was the Grand Final.
