If a player marks the ball with a few seconds left in the final quarter and then just kicks it away after the siren (I.e Daniher last night), do they get a negative DE result of that kick?

Conversely, if a player kicked it to the umpire after the siren, would they get a positive DE stat?

So this does actually count as a stat? I've wondered about this before.

Q: What if a player has a disposal after the siren has sounded, does it count?

A: The game or quarter doesn’t officially end until the umpire acknowledges the siren by blowing the whistle and signaling the end of the quarter. All disposals executed before the umpire’s whistle will be included, regardless of whether the siren has sounded. Once the siren has sounded a disposal will only be recorded if a player has a genuine and realistic set shot at goal. If the player has taken the mark or won a free-kick and was having an unrealistic attempt at a shot at goal, then no disposal will be awarded. Also if an umpire deems a player has run off his line while having the shot no disposal will be recorded.

I feel like the Bulldogs have a really bad win rate after scoring the first 3 goals (and then the opposition score).

Are there any stat masters who can see if that is true?

There are some very large scores in the VFA during the 1980s, especially Division 2 against teams that were declining like Yarraville, teams that were down for a number of years like Sunshine, or new teams that didn't take off like Kilsyth; or Division 1 teams that found themselves out of their depth like Camberwell or Waverley. Not sure if there were any instances of the 212 and 317 you mentioned though.

A few weeks ago somebody was asking about cases of players who had relatively short careers but managed to meet all opposing teams during their AFL tenures. I would now like to ask the opposite question; what are the longest careers in which a player by chance never played an opposing team?

To illustrate, it wouldn't be so strange if a player had a long career from 1996-2012 inclusive, but didn't happen to play the Brisbane Bears or Fitzroy as a rookie in his first year, or as an aging veteran with mounting injuries in 2012 played only a handful games in his final year none of which were against new team the GWS Giants.

But it would be odd if for example a Melbourne player was with the Demons for 8 seasons from 1997-2004 inclusive for some 150 games, but never played a single senior game against the Richmond Tigers for one reason or another. Anyone got any examples of situations like the hypothetical one I described?

Yep, checked North Melbourne and they did it 5 times in a row to finish that season.

Richmond didn't do it so I reckon it would be decades since they last 'achieved' it.

Almost all stats comparisons these days exclude the 2020 season for the obvious reason of shortened game times.

The completion of this round sees 13 teams with percentages above 100. Surely this is a record at any one time?

On another note, I was perusing the 1996 season specifically to see what sort of win percentage the Lions of 1996 had as a team, the combined player list in the last game of Rd 22 was 21.38%. I'd guess the early Giants and Suns would not be too far off, although a few senior players with good records like Gary Jr and Heath Shaw might affect those sides.

But one player that caught my eye was Marty Warry, who played 8 games for Fitzroy and never played another game of AFL. However his last three matches that season saw him kick three, three and four goals, in his last game against Freo. Obviously now lost in the annals of time, but in retrospect it's a bit unusual for a player to show quite a bit of goalkicking nous to not get a gig elsewhere. Did he get on a list in '97 and just not make it to a senior game? I'm assuming he wasn't one of the eight Lions to go to the merged entity in '97.

Marty Warry's Wikipedia page shows that he signed a 2-year deal with Collingwood in 1997 but quit mid-season due to lack of opportunities. It also states he kicked the last ever goal for Fitzroy - one for the trivia nights:

Not as spectacular was a game by the Western Bulldogs against the Adelaide Crows in 2005. A fairly low-scoring game, the Bulldogs were 4.0 to half time and a goal early in the third took them to 5.0 - then for the rest of the game they kicked 0.5 to finish 5.5-35 and getting a 74-point thrashing from the Crows in the process.

In Round 10 1992 North Melbourne kicked an impressive 12.1-73 to half time to open up a 19-point lead over Melbourne (8.6-54) at the MCG but lost their accuracy in the second half with 4.7-31 while the Demons completely over-ran the Kangaroos to win easily by 36-points, 21.14-140 to 16.8-104.

It was also in the early 1990s that I remember a bizarre WAFL game between Subiaco and South Fremantle. It started with a goal by Subiaco, answered by a point from Souths, another goal by the Lions and another point by the Bulldogs, until in the second quarter it got to IIRC 11.0-66 to 0.11-11, before the sequence broke and the game ended up with a relatively normal scoreline. Despite this, the dominance of the Lions remained constant throughout, Subiaco thrashing the hapless Bulldogs by 105-points.

Outside of covid my first thought was St Kilda's first 5 or 6 seasons they would have this covered. Looked it up and they easily did it with whole seasons or nearly whole seasons of scores under 50.

Next thought was the year Fitzroy didn't win a game - which was 1964. They achieved 4 in a row. I have copied the game before and after 4 in a row to see if Richmond beats their aggregate.

There maybe another example after 1964, but I will check that later, I checked GC they had 3 in 2015 and 4 out of 5 games in that streak, and GWS, but they never got close.
