Meh… only thing Sidey did wrong was kick it OOF instead of through the big sticks. Happy for players to back themselves and take those opportunities.

Thinking back I got the impression he actually thought about giving it to Ginnivan but caught sight of a tackler bearing down on Ginni, also I'm pretty sure that Harves would have implored his senior players to take the game on once Pendles went down and Sidey just tried to lift the team.

I don't trade 15 years of selflessness and brilliance in Sidey's behalf because he didn't get a first gamer smashed and then missed a goal.

I will have to have another look. I usually pick up what is going on around players and can see why players don't handpass to someone with heat around them but I didn't notice that last night. Loved Sidebottom for years but was really tested with his crap last year.
He has been very strange on field this year. That terrible shank in the opening minute which fell in Mihocek "s lap sums his kicking under no pressure up this year.
I don't see why a team leader should be excused for getting drunk and losing the plot at a time when our club was most in need of leadership just because he hasn't done it before.
It sticks in my craw.
I will apologise for my accusation of selfishness if Wines was about to smash Ginnivan as some suggest.

Howe also.
Contracted for next year, and he said he feels better than in years. So I imagine something drastically would have to change for him to go back on his 2023 contract.

Wouldn’t surprise to see him hang up the boots. Reckon we’ll have a few do the same.
It’s going to be a tough winter.

Yeah if the season goes South and he is dropped to the 2;s when we start playing youth Id expect an early retirement mid season may be in the offing.

He appears to be running on fumes.

He looks to have lost the pace of the game a bit. Love Steele so hope he goes out on his terms.

Now I'm sure this wil become a "f@rk me he ain't elite, he's barely top 6 thread.
But after the hatred that was exhibited game thread on Sunday I feel there needs to be a bit of perspective.
Yes, yes, I'm a Sidey fan and have a connection to his family, so bash me as bias.
But....
He took unders to sign his current contract with CFC. Against the advice of his manager.
Not many modern AFL players, particularly one who grew up as a supporter of one of those suitors, would do that.
And for clarification, his childhood team is not a contender so they would have loved to get him.
No person, Sidebottom included, does not see those dinky attempts at passes that fail to go the distance or miss the target and despair. It's been a problem his whole career.
For me, this is an issue that the coaching group has failed to address. It's an obvious fault that should/could be coached out.
For me, I love the fact, yes fact, that within 60 seconds he can be clearing the ball in the backline, then recieving it at the forward 50. Huge tank and one of the very few at CFC that run both ways. Wills himself to the contest time and time again when others simply blow up.

I'm a fan, no doubt. When I ordered last years limited edition jumper I put the 22 on it. Such is my respect for what he brings to CFC.

Enjoy the thread guys and don't hold back. This is a forum for open views, no matter how much I may disagree!
Still one of our most important players.
Gets treated a little harshly. Obviously he set very high standards over his career, but it seems he gets judged too harshly here. It’s no surprise we look our best when he is firing.

If he continues with us next year, what do you see as his best role?

Until we have someone with his stamina who can run up and down the ground all game, then he would be on the wing.
I think his stamina is still very underrated. Seems like we have no other player like it.

He may not do the mercurial stuff like he once did, but he would still be top 10 in the Copeland.

He’s just not getting the numbers he used to or using the ball as well. I wonder what the club will offer him.

Was he on $750k? Maybe $400k for 1 more year and get him to 300 games.
He has slowed down but not sure we have someone at this stage who has shown they are ready to take it. Poulter perhaps?

Would love to see one of the kids to take that wing role. Someone like Reef for instance. Just don’t know whether he has the stamina as yet.

I just had a quick look at his stats for this year, and I think it's reasonable that we sink the boots in...

Went at 37.5% disposal efficiency on the weekend

I’d rather we play Poulter… but beyond that, others are right… probably not too many options unless we push Nick Daicos up the ground

Hoping youth supplants him and he’s not an automatic selection by years end
