Coniglio wants to win a premiership before he retires. Out of Hawks, Carlton & GWS he picked the most likely
Complete common sense.
Hawks supporters parade around as if they’re still making prelims and jagging the odd premiership, but the reality is they just finished the Home & Away season 9th, and have now finished out of the 8 in 2 of the past 3 seasons - they’re trending downward, or at best have plateaud into a mid-range team. Cogs would have needed more evidence they’re ready for a sustained push deep into the finals, and the fact is the last finals series they played in they got bundled out by a team that is now sitting 17th.
From a Carlton perspective it’s hardly surprising either. There is absolute no guarantee of finals in the near future, and the list is mostly potential and our coach has only coached half a season. There are far too many question marks still.
A little part of me fist pumped Cogs signing for life. Can’t understate the importance of keeping their very best players together to keep pushing into the finals, and his signing should have a direct impact on keeping others at the club. If they can keep Kelly, Whitfield, Taranto, Cameron, Ward, Greene and Davis together they’ll make a grand final eventually. Need to turf Leon as the first order of duty if they miss out again this year.
