Steve Johnson - Better than Daicos!

Looks common-place now to dribble goals or snap sharp goals from the boundary line, but rare as rocking horse shit back then.

Don't get these threads. Stevie Johnson is a terrific player any way you splice it, a great forward of the modern day game, you can't deny that.

That said, Daicos kicked 549 goals from 250 games (2.1 goals a game avg), Johnson 382 goals from 196 games (1.9 a game avg). Daicos played his career in the wilderness, SJ in one of the greatest teams ever.

I guess if you had to pick from scratch on talent, you'd go for Daicos imv. That said, the margin is slender.

You do realise Geelong has strung together 2 flags back to back more recently then Coillingwood right? In any case, both are ancient history and pointless to the discussion.

Four on the trot goes okay. Come back to us when you have it and you can drink my salty tears.

MMmmmm
Stevie J - great player
Daicos - left foot, Right foot, Dribble goal, snap on either foot, Torp, High mark, one hander, under pressure .. . . absolutely genius!

Why not? I could understand this point of view if we were discussing Varcoe or Wojcinski, but Stevie J is supposed to be one of Geelong's "superstars", is he not?

...

Johnson has never even been amongst the Top 5 at his own club! On his day, he is a brilliant player who chopped up most opposition teams in games here and there. He has enjoyed the occasional purple patch where he dominated for a month or so, but never for an entire season.

I just think for a player who generates that amount of hype, he needs be one of Geelong's top 3 players at least ONCE in his career.

I don't think that we quite consider him to be THAT good, just extremely good. Star is correct, superstar is stretching it. Bruce may well be extremely hype-worthy, but, as per his lurrrve for Rioli, that doesn't mean that the player is automatically conferred superstar status.

forget the fight, every single flag is as valuable as any other thanks.

Last year's flag is no more relevant than 1897's.

Yeh, Nah.

the 1897 flag was won by Essendon by beating 7 other teams. the 2011 flag was won by Geelong, defeating 16 other teams. Also, I was sitting in the 3rd tier of the MCG in 2011, we all watched it, we all remember it.

My point is, when people try and act surperior, based on flags won before their lifetime, It just seems desperate and pathetic. I'm not saying you should erase history, I'm saying you should put it in perspective.

reading the posts, majority of Cat fans have no issues with Johnson v Daicos comparisons and most suggesting Daicos but it's the Hawthorn trolls that love to add their ridiculous input that makes no sense, it's as if they think they know better having watched their team recently win 2, 3.....sorry!
Win 1 premiership over 4 years ago now.

You mean like this post from earlier in this thread

yeh Modra was another :thumbsu:

lol
And people call Franklin a superstar, Modra would shit on that bloke not only in the air but also on the ground.
Great memories and a shame some footy fans missed out on seeing those guys play

I only saw the tail end of Daicos' career and remember only small bits and pieces so i don't think it would be fair to make the comparison

sure I can because his career has been documented in a biography as well as the internet and video highlights.
The majority of which I have on tape, not highlights but full matches so I feel I have every right to compare Daicos with today's players champ ;)

Try again though :p

That last comment was my thoughts on Daicos and the actual subject at hand. I have no idea what you have seen and I wasn't trying to imply that you hadn't seen any of Daicos.

I'm so use to Hawthorn supporters pulling em up on something I immediately get into attack mode.

Always find it comical how any Hawthorn fan quickly shoots somebody down if they suggest a Modra or a Daicos was better than Franklin, like he's untouchable or something :p

You obviously believe that and thats fine but you had a sook about Hawthorn posters belittling Johnson yet earlier in the thread you did the same to Franklin when he hadn't even been mentioned to that point

says you who constantly belittles anything and everything Geelong!
I turned the subject because one of your own mentioned the thread should be Milne versus Johnson, everything was fine until that point as people were having fair and honest feedback, you folks come along and instead of staying on topic you try and make Johnson out to be nothing but a poor man's version of Stephen Milne :D
