Wasn't it Batchelor's job to release Deledio into the midfield??

Lol yep but injuries all through our backline have wrecked this plan. Next year would like to see talls Rance, Astbury, Post, Grimes, Thursfield and add a rookie and smalls/rebounders Houli, Batchelor, Newman, Dea, Morris, Connors with potentially Conca and our first and second rounder being eased in there at stages before being released to midfield. Deledio should be able to play permanent midfield with stints in backline to stop momentum of opposition side if we really need to.

I watch Steve Morris every week and he is undoubtedly my favourite player at Westies.

Hard, tough uncompromising player who every week gives a 100% and I mean 100%. Never gives up on a contest and always runs a straight line.
Reminds me of Bickley, Hodge or Scotty Burns.
I wouldn't call him lightning quick but he manages to tackle most opponents to the ground and they take a fair while to get up.

Really quite versatile, originally a defender is now getting a run in the middle on occasions. Starting to rack up some large possession numbers.
Great mark for his height.

I reckon there will be some real interest in Morris come draft time and he won't come cheap as ready made tough footballers are hard to find.
Don't think he ever played basketball so there's a positive.

As you can tell I'm a fan but what's not to like about a throw back footballer who loves the contested ball more than the cheap stat.

From Chris25 again.

Nothing wrong with his foot skills. They're probably something you don't really notice that much, and that isn't a bad thing as it means he isn't making big mistakes.

When he was first coming out of U18 football in 2007, he'd had a few injuries and was also playing more as an undersized forward. Wasn't until he came over to SA that he was moved to the back line, and that has improved his game. Had a knee reconstruction in his second season at West Adelaide, and that ended up costing him about half of last year too. Can't fault the way he has come back this year though.

Nothing wrong with Batchelor, looks like a bit of a tough nut which, is what you need, he doesn't break the lines like Lids though, but very good kick and cannot see him outside our 22 long term.

I am thinking against a taller defender we will need someone other than Houli to counteract in the air pushing Houli up the ground, Dea back pocket with possibly Morris other half back flank. Newman won't be around forever and as good as our team might get we will not be able to afford to have Lids in the backline for lengthy periods one would imagine

Just had a look at the vision then. Appears to run on the top of the ground which is good a touch of bounce about him in his movement, hopefully he is quite agile as he looks, Appears to have reasonable pace compared to opposition chasing him. What I like is the balance in his run and carry which should help the accuracy of his distribution. A likely type, hopefully he can make it and give us great service and mutual rewards!! Nice and solid build too so if he can get it right has a lot going for him!

has been named in the best 9 times out of 16 games and 4 have been the best...

Should be able to get him for his true value if he is a father-son selection, as other teams will have to nominate to pick him prior to the draft. At least it won't mean we jump on him with a pick too early.

Dont think any team will offer a 2nd round pick for him, If anything will be bid a 3rd rounder or later & we would have to take him with our next pick so the likely scenario is 4th round selection, Which looks ok to me :thumbsu:

Both Port and The Crows are showing strong interest in the kid so more than likely we'll have to take him with our 2nd rounder in a weak draft.

As a long time tiger supporter I look forward to ichmonds father/son selections...

Seen a lot of good players over the years...unfortunately the gene pool seems to run fairly shallow at Tigerland...

Bourkey ....raines were so/so...from memory the only really good one i can recall was Cloke and he's at the Pies...

Hoping this Morris kid is ok and ends up at tigerland...

Richo...get your act together!...

geezuz that flaky old memory needs a jolt jak, richo and Bowden didnt do it for ya...500 games between , upteen B&Fs and AAs...if every F/S achieved that as a minimum we would have been a dynsasty for the last 2 decades:eek:

Even if Crows bid their 2nd they may finish above us. I doubt either side will bid a 2nd rounder as they are both desperate for mids. Not flankers which they both have in spades. Both sides are battlers because they struggle for genuine mids.

We have to go for this guy as a F/S pick. Especially in this weak draft. From my understanding of the F/S rules for us to get him we have to use our next availiable pick to the highest bidder.

For example, say we have pick 10. If Brisbane use pick 8 for him we have to use pick 10, if Adelaide use pick 12 for him we have to use our 2nd round pick (28~35?). Normally I would be saying we'll be looking at using our 3rd round pick, but seeing that this is a weak draft there's a chance we may have to use our 2nd round pick.

In this draft I have heard people say there is no difference in quality between pick 14~50.

Ooops...yes your right on the money there Bo...:p...

Never actually gave them two a thought...been at tigerland for so long...slipped under my guard...

Jeez will definitely have to ease up on the 'Schofferhofer' its killing some good memories...:D...

shitshitshitshit.

morris is an absolute beast. would rather die than give up on a contest. every time will put his head over the ball, have never seen him squib a contest ever. his disposal is fine, can play big or small, and can drift forward for a goal. i think he's the number one rebounder from 50 in the sanfl. would be devastated if we lost him, but it's been rumoured all year, mostly to gws.
