So saints have a footy opps manager that had an affair with a co worker now hire a guy that hide a player from a drug test...not a great look for a struggling club
Don't really give two hoots about the "look" if they're the best options for the job and help us get back to where we need to be.

Lethlean for instance is way over-qualified for his position and as such was a "bargain" and it looks like he's definitely getting things done.

Meh who cares

If they're good at their job and learnt from their mistake(s) who cares

Agree 100% plus everyone deserves a second chance in such situations.

The guy that got suspended for hiding a player so they missed a scheduled drug test?
Better and worse than that.
Lachie wasn't scheduled for a drug test. He stayed at the Lamberts which wasn't uncommon, while breaking up with his girlfriend. It does seem he had a bit of a run in with some Colombian marching powder on his Christmas break. GubbyAllen approved the decision not to notify his whereabouts.
The bad part is if the club had done so, and if he had been tested and is was positive for coke it would have been a confidential strike. No biggie really.
That decision led to 12 month bans for Him and Craig Lambert, and 3 months for Lachie.
So pretty dumb.

Whats wrong with that? A number of clubs have list managers with no football experience and are more on the commercial side

Oh ok. I'm not being smart arse but who are they? I thought most were from admin/coaching/scouting background. I can't think of one

Nah they're not. It's a mix. For example wces previous list manager now footy boss was a player manager.

The list manager isn't there to spot talent their greater responsibility is in contracts, tpp, management etc.

Financial is and admin role isnt it?
EX AFL, SANFL player (228 games for Norwood, captain, won two best and fairest awards and a premiership)
Assistant coach at De La Salle Old Collegians, hardly a non footy guy, just because he hasn't been in a NON playing role at AFL level doesn't mean he cant do the job.

Our previous List manager was Ameet Bains who was a lawyer and did legal project strategy work prior to his role at St Kilda, went on to bee COO before leaving to be CEO at the Doggies.

how would a club expect to get in front of or catch the competition if always shopping with the tiny tidal pool of current AFL people, without looking in the great blue ocean.

List management is about so much more than just recruitment these days
