IMO not welcome at all.

I would be really pissed at the Club if they offered him a job.

The guy is a blight on the game.

As a father that has kids play sport I find his total disregard for the long term health of those who it was his duty of care, to care for, simply deplorable .

He lacks any ethics and is only interested in one thing , that being himself.

Hard to imagine a more selfish, self centred sanctimonious prick.

Hird does not represent the sort of core values I would want around West Coast.

..not to mention that he wasn't especially good as a coach.

I'd genuinely struggle to follow footy the way I do now if he was part of the club - would be a terrible statement. Cannot for the life of me see it happening though.

Following Dean Cox meeting with Geelong, he is now having discussions with Sydney as well.

Looks like he was given some feedback as to his performance in coaching stoppages.
Yes and no. All he has known for the last 16-17 years is the WCE system. Most coaches need to get out of the same system to progress and gain new ideas. I wish him all the best in finding a new club if that's what he wants.

Now that Hird has been invited back into the AFL fold, how would he go as an assistant coach for us. Thoughts?

Troll right?

The campaigner never deserved to hand that medal out. He is not welcome. He is a systematic cheater and liar. He should just be a football recluse. I would be disgusted if he was employed by another club, the AFL or the media let alone our club. Good luck with your depression etc but no you don't just get back to what you had after doing what he did.

I've heard Dean Cox is extremely angry with the club hierarchy.
He actually wanted to stay with the club but the fact the offers were so far apart really rubbed salt into the wound.

Lets just say it sounds like a lot of players and some coaches internally aren't fans of the powers that be.
(Not like we didn't already know that but it's interesting to actually hear it from an implicit source.)

This post doesn't surprise me and it also doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence .
Sounds like we have some management issues.

Perhaps ist issues with under performers being moved on. Cox failed as a coach other than specialists ruck work.

Most want change -well change isn't comfortable for many.

You say he failed this year, but we didn't have our best 2 ruckman, and our midfield depth was shit, and our mids were mostly slow.

Couldn't see it posted anywhere, but Sumich was on trade radio earlier this week discussing the WA 18s.

Was asked the question regarding the Gold Coast job and said he actually didn't go for as it wasn't the right fit for him. Mentioned that over the next 12 months will aim to get back into the AFL system as he still has aspirations to be a Senior Coach and that won't be possible if he spends too much time out of the AFL.

His main reasons for taking the WA 18s job were to go back and coach his own team and to work on youth development.

This article from earlier in the year has a bit about it - https://thewest.com.au/sport/afl/why-sumich-quit-the-afl-ng-b88432845z

Wouldn't be against him returning, but it might take the Senior Assistant role to get him back.

Hierarchy being Nisbett and Gepp? Could imagine he wouldn't get along with Gepp considering Gepp was the man to go and watch over their footy trips

Now that the F&B are behind us we should see some news on the coaching team for next year.

Given that apart from Hickmont our other assistant coaches were told earlier that no guarantees were given and that they were free to explore their options, then some changes are in the wind.

Known Coaching Movements thus far:
Outs
Longmuir of to Collingwood.
Cox off to Sydney or Geelong.
Ins.
Mitchell .

I would therefore expect a couple of additions to our coaching ranks.

That would indicate to me one of two scenarios .

Option 1. We have already got the pieces in place and people lined up, but just needed to get the season wrapped up and ours and other Clubs F&B sorted.
Option 2. We haven't yet got all the ducks lined up.

I hope like hell its the former Option 1, otherwise all the better prospects will have been snapped up.

With Schofield now a non starter, other possible names to watch are Stone and Sumich.

It's a bugger JS is off the table now, I must be an eternal blind optimist as I thought the club would have had his signature in the bag.
Suma seems to have a very good name within the industry, someone who'll be a little firmer with the guys. Only thing that's really off putting is Hagdorn loves him too.

What about someone like Todd Curley, think he'd be worth the investment?
