i noticed that strijk is been managed by ryan campbell and his new management company.to me this just sounds like a publicity opportunity by ryan to get his name out there and promote the fact that there is a new WA based sports representive company.surely the eagles can see strijk has got something to offer the team and will do a deal.

As far as I'm concerned he can wait another year. Other blokes deserve that spot before him as they've waited longer and shown more than enough.

But would you want to lose him over the other guys?
I agree with you, he should wait like everyone else but he is a real talent. Strikes me as an arrogant type, if he doesn't get his contract i reckon he will leave.

There should not be any issue with spots on our list. We should be aiming to turn over and clear out 10 players on our list. And even then there will still be undeserving people left. The only thing preventing us clearing out more should be the weak draft. Should be no shortage of senior spots for rookies who perform. And if Worsfold had any brains he would see that not only is this the best course of action for the club logically it's also best for him from a PR point of view. If he starts clearing out dead wood and the old underperformers he will actually look like he finally realises we are in a crisis and is doing something. If he insists on keeping those blokes and they keep underperforming then he is signing his own death warrant. But i expect that is exactly what he will do - believe that he can turns spuds into gold by showering them will love and kisses and therefore be arguing for the most minimal number of changes to the squad he can get away with.

Name these 10 players as well as those others left over on the list who shouldn't be there. General comments are good and well, how's bout sticking your neck out with some specifics?

Heres an easy 10:
Mark Nicoski (useless)
Matthew Priddis (useless + slow)
Quinten Lynch (no footy smarts)
Ben McKinley (forward who cant kick a goal anymore)
Ashley Hansen (needs a zimmer frame to turn a corner)
Matthew Spangher (clangher!)
Patrick McGinnity (nuff said.)
Brett Jones (too old + doesnt provide much)
Beau Wilkes (last line of depth at best!)
Bradd Dalziell (no idea why he is there to begin with.. good beep doesnt make you a good player)

I'd like to hear anyone point out which one should be on our list instead of Strijk and why?

P.S: if we're being honest as we should be, theres at least another 5.

Strijk will be at the Eagles next year. Whether as a rookie or on the senior list is the question. There is no way that he will be leaving the Eagles. Not arrogant at all!

Mark Nicoski (useless) had chances back & forward, move on
Matthew Priddis (useless + slow) best 22
Quinten Lynch (no footy smarts) good backup at best, should attempt to trade. certain he's going to GC anyway
Ben McKinley (forward who cant kick a goal anymore) needs to be played naturally, he is not cyril rioli. keep him!
Ashley Hansen (needs a zimmer frame to turn a corner) **** him off. dont even pay him out
Matthew Spangher (clangher!) good back up, should put on the table though. behind glass, scho, e mac, waters, butler, brown as a defender
Patrick McGinnity (nuff said.) 2010 mcnamara. poor mans scooter
Brett Jones (too old + doesnt provide much) good when fit. dont think hje fits the plans
Beau Wilkes (last line of depth at best!) cant get rid of everyone! ok backup at best. wont ever be best 22
Bradd Dalziell (no idea why he is there to begin with.. good beep doesnt make you a good player) soft

Good work, forgot about spanger and dalziell. Let's be honest, strijk has shown the most promise out of all our midfielders besides shuey.

lol come on, we gotta be ruthless here..

We wont be in premiership contention with Priddus extracting to give to the opposition or to put a player directly into trouble.
I cant see a place for McKinley going forward (Unless he ups his game many fold in all areas)
Wilkes... I mean come on, I cant see him being a depth player in a team in premiership contention.

I hope so. not really arrogant, but umm i just think he's the kind of bloke that backs his talent and what his done so far to get another contract elsewhere.

Strijk, Hams, Wilson, Stevenson and Sullivan should all be promoted. I can think of 5 duds that should be delisted off our senior list.

Hansen
Nicoski
Notte
Wilkes
Brett Jones

Holy heck.you havent seen much of sullivan have you. almost the worst lead ruckman in the wafl competition. infact probably only shades the Peel ruckman as the worst in the league. De-listing material only.

People need to understand that we can't really delist contracted players. If we do, we are obliged to pay them out for the remainder of their contract. But we've got loads of cash, you argue? Sure... but their payout goes into the salary cap.

eg, say Hansen is on $250k per year (shocking, but possible)... if we delist him at the end of 2010 and pay him out, his salary for NEXT year is added to our salary cap for THIS year. We can choose to delist him NEXT year, and his payout comes out of NEXT YEAR's salary cap... but then we lose that spot on our list.

We might be able to afford to delist one, or maybe two players and just cop the payout costs. But I doubt we can delist 3-4 senior players and not end up in trouble with the salary cap.

I've got an easy answer to that. They get delisted and a couple are signed up as assistant coaches next year on the same money instead.

I'm sure this has happened at every club at some stage and given any assistant will only be guaranteed a 1 year deal because of Worsfolds contract also ending it would work out nicely.

Hansen = forward line coach.

Nicoski = skills coach

:p:p:p

If he is such a GREAT clubman he will walk for the best interests of the club :)

O.K. D4E, i am not shy of offering an opinion and backing up what i say.

Firstly, there are 4 easy ones - it's well documented that McKinley and Spangher want out and intend to go back to Victoria for more opportunity elsewhere, so there is two traded players. And it's clear that Hansen and Nicoski have had the black texta put through their name by the club hierarchy already. They won't get another game, so there is 2 delistees.

Now for the radical part. This will get the nuffs nuffs on here who hate me and follow me around the boards posting snarky comments fired up. I would be looking over the course of the next 2 seasons to move on every player at the club over 24 with the exception of the 3 all Australians - Cox, Kerr and Glass. I think things are that grim and every player we have over 24, bar those 3, are not good enough.

So on my list of other delistees/tradees is - Brett Jones, Embley, Rosa, Adam Selwood, Lynch (this is tied in to the fate of Sullivan, we need to keep one of them as a spare ruckman), Wilkes, Sullivan, Dalziell. Notte, Houlihan, McGinnity and Ebert would survive for the time being but would by told that they need to step up soon.

I would go and find as many 21-26 year olds in the secondary comps in the country who have good disposal and an aggressive and competeitive mind set to import in to fill the gaps, a bit like Hams and strijk.

Things are grim and we can't keep kidding ourselves and talk about a rebuild but not actually do it. Those experienced bloks on that list are just not good enough. Most of them are over 100 games and they just aren't contributing. Even in the games or parts of games where we have been competitive it has not been these so-called team leaders lighting the fuse and getting us going in these good patches. It's blokes like Strijk, Stevens, Shuey who have ignited us.

I would rather player a 21-25 year old rookie who may or may not become a quality player for us than persist with blokes who have been given one long extended opportunity after anothe to come good for 5-8 years and have never made it, ala Selwood and Rosa.

Thats what i would do. But i am sure we won't. I don't expect any of those players to go bar Hansen, Nicoksi, Spangher and McKinley. The changes will be minimal except for an import from another club that they will buy to take pressure off them from teh accusation they haven't done anything to generater imporvement and change.

you could rookie a decent ruckman who would kill sullivan 9/10 times. its not like he's the last ruckman on earth.

I like Birrell myself, gr1, how tall is he? He has the competitive spirit, as GM puts it.:)

I will support another team if strijk says **** the lot of yous im leaving.
There are so many useless players on our senior list, most of Rookie list is made up of some of our most vital players.

eg, Hams, Strijk, stevenson, Wilson.
