strongest forward line of all time

Roughead, Franklin, Rioli and Williams was a pretty decent forward line

that alone does not get a club over the line as you still need to win the midfield and your back 6 needs to hold up

footy still comes down to clearances, stoppages and contested ball

Our back 6 will be premiership quality, the midfield will need one of our kids and/or one of our trades to really stand up.

I think the other important thing to remember is that Fev really didn't play much of contested style until probably 2003. Given he was drafted a year before Brown it would mean he is a very young (in KP terms) player for his age.

I really think that if he behaves (and he actually might with strong characters like Brown/Black to keep him in line) then he has at least another 5 years of peak performance.

Vossy knows how much losing Black is going to hurt & how difficult it will be to replace him, load up now, lift the average age of the 22 by 2 or 3 years, absolutely go for broke and hope by the time some of the genuine guns retire the draft will be uncompromised again (2012 i think)

Good luck Brisbane, you stole our best Assistant Coach but I won't hold it against you ;)

"........the ball goes long but its Clark with a perfect spoil, the ball comes to ground, Rich swoops and bangs it onto his left and hits Brown with a 60m bullet - Brown turns around, Bradshaw leads one way, Fev the other, the <insert club> defence have NO IDEA what to do - Brown says 'f^&@ ya's all' and BANG kicks one from 55m off one step and he joins Bradshaw and Fevola with 5 goals and we've got 3 mnutes left in the second quarter...."

If only........

Maybe the greatest FF, CHF duo of all time, but for it to be the greatest forward line of all time you need 4 other guys who are good down there.

Sherman, Adcock and who? Please guys.

On field it's always been about team Fev, poor body anguage and abusing players when things dont go his way and thinking he is the most important thing to the club when he is in form

Off field his behaviour can be cancer to a club's culture

On and Off the field I hope Fev pull's his head in and pays the lions for their faith in him

however only time will tell, if he woth the risk well the answer is yes, however with any risk their is potential of greater rewards or greater failure

time will tell

These problems all stem from weak leadership, something Carlton have in spades.

Looks like National Draft day has come 6 weeks early for us this year. Last year while we were fawning over the likes of Rich and Cornelius, the knowledge that we'll only take 1 or 2 kids in the draft has made us drool over our newly traded players. ;)

Perhaps our annual fantasy of a new recruit coming in and playing good football in their first season will finally be realised (apart from Rich that is).

In regards to Adcock, in 2007 he showed he was a great gut runner, and delivered the ball straight down to Brown. He struggled there in 2008 before regaining form by going back to defence this year. Not sure whether he'll play midfield full time next year, maybe rotate with Xavier Clarke and Andrew Raines who can also be good rebounding runners.

We have 2 main weaknesses IMO:
1. lack of a classy crumber: we didn't get one (Buchanan isn't a natural forward), so we'll have to hope Hooper or Rockliff step up. Of course if we draft somebody like Austin Wona[sp?]mirri who can come in and get goals straight away that'll be good.

2. lack of midfield options. We're a bit predictable, often get killed in clearances and are still reliant on Black. The following rotations may help us out:
- middle midfielders: Black, Power, Rich, Brennan, Redden, Stiller (tagger), Selwood, Rischitelli, Harding, Proud
- halfbacks/midfielders: Adcock, X Clarke, Raines, Austin, Hawksley
- half forwards/midfielders: Johnstone, Polkinghorne, Sherman, Staker, Buchanan

Now obviously they wouldn't all get games, apart from a few automatic inclusions, their selection will depend on form and team balance. The 4 recruits outside of Fevola can all add to our rotations.

Now that trade week is done and dusted, having seen the comings and goings, I can sort of see what Voss is trying to do. I still think we could have done with 1 more clearance specialist, but it couldn't be done. With a few blokes (eg Brennan) now hopefully freed up from their previous duties, along with development of younger players (Polkinghorne, Redden) hopefully that'll be enough.

The aim should be to finish top 4 next year, make the prelim and see what happens from there. If we don't make the GF though in 2011 then I'd be disappointed, given we've gone all out for a flag.

Strongest forward line? Hell yes!

But they will all smack into each other going for the same ball, only Fev will survive, and the shockwave will cause a tsunami somewhere.

i really feel sorry for defenders who are going to drop in the hole next year.

bradshaw smashing into them from behind and browny and fev from the side. ouch.

No room for Collier BC? I think that's where our improvement may come as well.

Bradshaw goes okay.

Clear the rest out, give the boys some room. ;)

I take back what i said, i think you guys have one of the scariest forward lines ever, i cant believe those 3 will be roaming in the one forward line.

Carlton struggled to hold down Brown and Braddy, and now add another Brown in there and i think every single team in the competition will not be able to contain that forward line.

This trade could be a really big win/ win situation, Fev gives you a shot at the flag for the next couple of years, and fingers crossed Hendo develops into the player all you guys think he will, and pick 12 cant hurt either.

I really think Brissy could win the flag next year, maybe the year after, good luck to you guys.

Just for laughs reckon u guys should chuck Brown, Fev, Bradshaw, Clark, Luenburger and Brennan in the foward line and tell every1 to just bomb it in. WOuldn't work but itd be fun to watch.

In all honesty i think u guys did well, even if Bradshaw plays back ur foward line will be very hard to beat. However losing Hendersen is a big loss, i really rated the kid.

Knew I would forget someone, thanks.

Yep really expecting quite a bit from Collier. When he gets his game together, he's going to be an absolute beast, tall, fast and running through brick walls.

The best move Voss could make 2010 is to leave Luke Power as a permanent small forward. I think age is catching him quickly on 2009's evidence. His pace is going and he started to turn the ball over a little too much for my liking.
What he has in spades is awareness and reads the play as well as anyone. Park him at the feet of the big forwards and I think he will finish up with 30+ goals himself and assist in the kicking of many more. He can still took a strong contested grab.
He doesnt have the capabilities to be a permanent mid and his turnover rate warrants a move out of the backline, we've got the cover in defence.

His last two seasons on the field have been brilliant. Abuse has gone way down and his body language has improved significantly. He applied better defensive pressure than the majority of tall forwards this season - his tackle count (more than twice Brown's) is testament to that.

They've got very little to worry about Fev on the ground. He's kicked over 80 goals in 3 of the last 4 years, yielding two Coleman medals (3 goals short of a third) and 3 AA selections.

Off the field is a different story but he's got no issues when sober. Just gotta have him on a leash when he drinks (hasn't drunk much during the season in recent years).

How could that be interpreted as a troll???

people are just scared of the wrath of Lord Vader

while i agree, the thread is clearly marked as considering the strength of the forward line only :thumbsu:

In retrospect picking up Cousins with our last pick last year may have come in pretty handy right about now.

very much so, Vossy seemed keen but probably didn't trust his instincts so early on...

...well, he's over that now ;)

I wouldn't get too carried away, Fevola could divide the Brisbane Lions club. I imagine there would be a lot of mixed feelings among the players and supporters about getting this sort of person to a club that has carved itself out a pretty good reputation on and off the field since the Fitzroy merger.

And having two power key forwards might not necessarily equate to a more potent forward line. It depends on the understanding and chemistry of the players. Brown has been the main go to man since Alistair Lynch retired and those two worked great together but Lynch mainly played from the square. Fevola likes to lead up a bit further and kick them from 50. It could screw Jonothan Browns game up and that is the last thing you want happening.

I think Brisbane have taken a big gamble and gone for the quick fix and not just with Fevola, they have traded heavily. Time will tell if this is a wise move. Being a West Aussie, I know Staker will be good for you, he has some very good attributes though he has always been an under achiever though I know WC felt his best footy was in front of him. I think he will fit in well up there.
