Stuart Fox leaves and the search for a replacement CEO

Why can't we get a nice quiet CEO, not in the limelight, not a politcial hot button for the press, not a distraction from the on-field performance. Just a well-qualified CEO that runs the club and no one knows who it is? Can't we have that?
Stuart Fox was that. Are you thinking of President?

I'd gladly take someone who doesnt take any s*** from people. especially in boys club afl we will need someone who can stand up to people if necessary.

OzJohnnie, you realise the article is a good thing? whistleblowing is very important, otherwise you end up in a * scum scenario

Fiona de Jong is incredibly well qualified and has over a decade in sports management on top of her legal qualifications and experience. She is now aiding in exposing what kind of an absolute campaigner John Coates is - not exactly a bad thing to do. So on top of her credentials she also has a backbone and sense of decency.

I'll take her over Nettleton who had a less than stellar tenure at St Kilda where they are cureently reversing his decision to move to Seaford.

I'm sure she's an upstanding and well-qualified person. I would just prefer a quieter personality. One that won't end up in the papers all the time being asked about this, that or the other thing.

I don't know anything about anyone they could select and doubt the papers have it right anyway. Why would they get this right when they get so much else wrong?

I'm just saying that the part of the club getting the most press should be the football department. If I had a vote I would vote for a CEO in that mold.

Just hope if she comes onboard that all the shit from the aoc job has been put to bed and can start with a clean slate.
Need a clear head and vision

Fiona sounds like a really good candidate. She's been involved in elite sports with a highly political element. She's dealt with boys club bullying. She's been successful.

A good CEO is as much about relationships and vision as anything else

Interesting that a lot of the AOC stuff has come out at the same time she's been confirmed as a candidate for the job. Don't mind it at all.
With Hawks comes scrutiny, but at the same time, I don't pay attention to most sports news that isn't AFL so I wonder how much of it was already out there, just now in our eye line so to speak

It seems like a long time between Fox leaving and where we are now. It would be great to lock someone away sooner rather than later, but the key is to get the right person.

AOC is just a government department really.

People being paid a lot of taxpayers money to send people to the Olympics. Not too tough at all.

Hawthorn Football Club is a business. Big, big business and everything that goes with it.

The big focus for us will obviously be Dingley, but it may be a tougher job than we think. There wouldn't be a huge incentive for someone trying to make their name in footy to come to a club at the end of its peak (potentially) of on-field results, membership, profits, etc. Whoever follows Fox has enormous shoes to fill. That could be daunting for some.

That's simplifying the AOC quite a bit.

I had a particularly argumentative girlfriend for a while in high school and once we argued over whether Diet Coke was any good. This thread has that feel. Battle lines being drawn for no reason. We don't know these people. We don't know if the club is actually considering them.

It all seems a bit passionate here for what is essentially a decision by strangers about strangers that will have (with luck) no impact on what we really care about - the on field performance.

I care just as much about our off field performance as I do the on field.

So do you trust the people in charge of the appointing or new CEO, because those people haven't made to many mistakes of late imho.

I do have trust in them - which is why I think the process has taken some time also. You don't just appoint a CEO willy nilly - I like that we're taking our time. If they decide Nettleton is the way to go then so be it - I'm just not enamoured to him because the Seaford move hasn't been a good one for the Saints.

Just agree with oz Johnny and feel that if we are only getting drip fed stuff from the media about this we should probably save the brain strain until the club inform us with some facts. Just saying.
Cheers.

Pro, of course.

Perhaps the argument may have finished with me suggesting she switch to the low calorie option. The relationship was, uh, near the end.
