A quick refresher for those who came in late. The Luffy is like the Rising Star award - someone gets nominated each week for the award, and a panel of esteemed judges selects the winner out of the 22 nominations at the end of the year.

The Luffy goes to the most brain-exploding, maddeningly inconsistent performer of the week - someone who goes from the sublime to the ridiculous, often in the space of seconds.

Ladies and gentlemen, your suggestions for Round 2 please.

Maybe just one incident, rather than a whole match, but Brett Burton taking a strong mark, baulking around the player on the mark, dodging two players and sprinting clear only to completely mis-time the attempted check-side and dribbling it out of bounds was quite amusing.

I have revised my Calton vote. It now goes to Glenn Manton.

BTW, Sydney have an heir apparent to Troy Luff: Gerard Bennett is following on the fine tradition. A player who annually gets dropped from the list, then re-drafted via the rookie. Who manages to get a game because of other players injuries, but I always shudder when I see his name on the team sheet, and who's disposal leaves a lot to be desired.
He had a good game on the weekend which means he'll probably be in the team for the next few games, but be warned, Gerard is not far away from a "Luffy".

I think Lockett should be nominated for the second week in a row. He's gone from doing nothing to being responsible for making the side worse when he's playing in a week when he didn't actually play.

If that does fit the definition of sublime to ridiculous I don't know what does.

Blame the coaching staff for putting him on Hall, or the recruiting staff for not having got a good tall defender to replace SOS. Not Manton's fault he is being played against players twice his size.

Allan was the most insipid player performance from the most insipid team performance of the weekend.

I liked your description last week better: "A seemingly drug-adled performance!"
:D

As I mentioned in the other Luffy nomination thread for rd 2.

Tigers Blouse Captain Campbell would have to get the Luffy seal of approval for his lack of effort wouldn't he?

Soft soft soft.

As someone wittier than myself exclaimed after the match, "He had his arse handed back to him by the Pev!"
:p

I protest!

The spirit of Luff is owned and lives on in Sydney in the form of Gerard Bennett as mentioned by Barry.

Can I suggest an award for a complete Spiffler of a player.

The Harford. :D

shi it. too late!!

I nominate umpire Brett Allen for

1) Getting almost every decision wrong both ways in the Geelong V Adelaide match

2) For two bounces in a row in the South West Pocket of Footy park when the ball didn't bounce above shoulder height, and he subsequenctly inspected the turf!!

Sorry Foxy!
;)

BTW what was the story with Tivendale? IMO he's one of your best, but I hardly saw him. Is he injured? Or did he also have a really quiet night?

(PS. Not being facetious, just curious!)

I would like to second this one!!!

The crowd was screaming at him to throw it up after the first one, and the second was exponentially worse!!!! Would have like to have seen what had happened if a third was called for.

a number of Carlton players should have got it. i went to the game (and i barrack for neither of the two teams involved). 7 'uncontested' marks dropped at one count for the baggers.

i think it should go to number 37 (i believe) for the blues, who made magnificent position in a one on one contest bodying his player to the front until his opponent was essentially out of the contest. It was at centre half back for the blues. Thus it became an uncontested mark, only he dropped it, half tripped up, and his opponent picked it up and banged it through from 40 metres. awful stuff.
