I don't know if I'm being paranoid but when I asked Rankine about his re-signing at the VIC members function he seemed very awkward about it like he didn't want to tell me something.. he shut down the conversation abruptly and stopped making eye contact with me. I don't know if just reading too much into it that's why I haven't said anything until now but the longer this goes on and drags out the more concerning it does become. I was full of confidence a few weeks ago that he'd re-sign because he loves the Gold Coast and the lifestyle but who knows maybe the carrot Essendon dangled was too tempting?

Now all the sudden we get silence.

The problem though is our trade team has traditionally shat the bed with trades including the Saad and 2MP do Dorodo would be starting with a low offer like a 2nd rounder and threatening to take him to the pre season draft

If Rankine goes to the pre-season draft, he will be playing for North. He will not make it to Essendon, no matter what price he puts on his head. This is not a Jack Martin situation.

Our players, our coaches and all media outlets are saying they are confident he re-signs. He is the last major re-signing we have left. I’m hoping they are just discussing money/years/incentives etc.

I guess we will find out soon. If he does not re-sign by the end of season it's a fair chance he is gone. No tragedy IMO as we got plenty of talent but I would be disappointed. In his best, he is great to watch. But he did play only 45 games in 4 years. On the other hand, you want players who want to stay and buy in and are willing to stay for a little bit less. We will lose some players from time to time.

Unfortunately no inside info lol, purely based on his love for the club and he has said he wasn't going anywhere, they're just letting the ink dry on the contract before announcing, that's my belief anyway. Our history isn't good for players who haven't signed by now but a lot has changed in the last couple years.

I hope you're right. No doubt no player expressed as much love for the club, coach as Rankine on multiple occasions. Ironically, Rankine was the first to extend the initial contract and publicly urged Luko and Kind to re-sign.

I do enjoy watching him at his best.

Great news, I just read that as well

Original reports were 2 years, then recently apparently 4 years are negotiated.

I think they're trying too be a lot more cautious in handing out long term deals. With Rowell and Anderson coming out of contract next season this off season is massive for the club.
