Good to read the lads were disappointed with the opening performance against Brisbane and putting it into context trying a whole new system against the 2nd best team of the AFL.

Another stern test against GWS this week to try and get the system going.
Pretty harsh of the AFL to schedule us in for two away pre-season fixtures against prelim finalists from last year when they know we're trying to implement a new gamplan. I guess the trade off is two home fixtures against bottom 10 teams from last year in opening two rounds of the H&A season. Just would have been nice for us to build some momentum and confidence in the new gameplan going into the Richmond game. In saying that, we still have the Giants game to come and maybe we can go down to Canberra and do a job against a team we've historically struggled against. Theoretically, the new gamplan should click more with every game we play so our showing against the Giants should be an improvement on the way we played against the Lions. That's only a theory, though.

First Crack - Hudson, King, Montana - all have Suns Just missing (like me). FWIW, King is resolute Suns are winning it all in 3 years.

We need a poll.

IMO, it's always better to play the best opposition in pre-season games. It prepares you better.

Not harsh at all. Can't become better by just beating up on teams below us.

I think just missing out is pretty right at this point - but we can change that perception by winning games we traditionally lose.
All basically saying, the unknown is how long it will take to implement Dimma's plan (all talk was about Richmond/GWS/Collingwood style).

Montana's remark resonated with me. He questioned how our list fits the new plan (do we have fast players to implement it). I would hope that Dimma is smart enough to tailor his plan around our list. Obviously, practice game means nothing but it did look to me like reserves with faster players did better job than best 22.

The Gleeson quote about roles from Age makes me a bit doubtful (Macpherson as Lambert, Sexton as Houli/Rioli and Fiorini hard-running winger). I guess we will know after 5 rounds if we are on the right track.

Yeah I would say we have good endurance runners but not sure we are overly fast. I guess if you add rosas, Jeffery, Andrew, maybe berry instead of some that ran out with the a team last week it may look a little different. Foot skills still a big issue, you can run as much as you want but if you keep turning it over it ain't going to help. I actually don't mind atkins in the side for this reason.

This was my worry all along. We do not have the list to play a Richmond style, I was hopeful that Dimma would adapt the gameplan to the list, but unfortunately it seems to be forcing a Richmond 2.0 so far.

The biggest factor in how fast you can move the ball is definitely ball skills. Doesn’t matter how fast we are if you’ve got blokes like Fiorini, Macpherson etc. popping up 30m floaters that the next player has to wait under and gets cleaned up. We just don’t have enough players on the outside who can hit that darting quick kick then turn and go and move it onto the next one like Ainsworth, Rosas, etc.

All this talk about literally Richmond 2.0 is getting a bit too real now. By all means take parts and grow it from there, but that comparison article was a load of cr*p and if that’s genuinely the plan then we are still 2-3 years and 4-5 players away from cracking anything.

I expect you guys will do well and probably win the peachy match against gws …. Well probably have 5-6 players out with niggles and a few more underprepared including Toby who has been on maternity leave

Be good to see you guys put in a good performance … no injuries please

Hopefully not too serious. Rosas looked pretty good against Lions.

I liked him spending more time on the ball. Getting ball in his hands is a good idea.

(Hardwick) “When the ball is in his hands special things happen. We just have to make sure we can get the ball in his hands more.
Rosas was a notable absentee at training on Tuesday and assistant coach Shaun Grigg later revealed the 22-year-old had “pulled up tight” after the Lions match and would not play the Giants.

“Unfortunately he got a bit of an injury in his quad so we won’t see him this week,” Grigg said.

“Hopefully he’s not too far away. It’s an unfortunate time for Mally. He’s a silky player … we’re looking forward to getting him back amongst it.”

Damn. Last chance to show he should be in (should be anyway but whatever). Looks like a Tsitas, Macpherson, Holman, Ainsworth, Humphrey smalls group is a very real possibility. :grimacing:
Small forwards are the most prized players in todays attack setups
Bobby Hill won Collingwood a Grand Final last year
When you see that very very ordinary grouping you realise how much losing Izak will burn us for years to come
I still maintain that was the death knell for Dew
The "special player relationship" boat sailed with Rankine
Dimma will be putting a lot of work into fast tracking Humper's development

We got ****ed over by trying to do the right thing by Izak. He also lied to the club telling them he was going to sign for months, never got the opportunity to match the deal. His mind was made up before we even knew he was gone.

I don't disagree with this but it happened and history will see it in the lens of Suns ****ed up....again
