Noah Anderson ahead of his 100th game (23.07.24)

Rowell has been badly down since mid year.

Flanders averages more disposals at better efficiency, more clearances and his kicked more goals in our losses.

Yeah sure, the team is down on the road, but Anderson has had the sharpest decline in all measured stats of all of them.
Could Rowell’s form slump have something to do with Flanders coming into the mids?

Look at Andersons form home vs away and you'll notice a pattern.

9 home games - 32.6 disposals (13.7 contested, 23.7 effective), 4.3 tackles, 7.8 clearances, 8.6 score involvements, 8 goals + 8 goal assists

9 away games - 25.4 disposals (8.9 contested, 15.5 effective), 2.4 tackles, 3.9 clearances, 4.6 score involvements, 3 goals + 5 goal assists

Needs to work on versatility to play forward or back because he's been a liability in the middle away from home this year.
Andersons stats away are still fine, really (less goals is the interesting one for me) and most mids in the comp would be ok with those stats. It’s just the gap between home and away is stark and emphasises how good he could be.

Rowell definately suffered since the new holding the ball change, has probably lost confidence. Would like Davies to come in and let him be the anchor and let Rowell be more free.

Flanders runs all day and links up very well, don’t think he would be running the same patterns as Rowell anyways.

Anderson coming close to a Brownlow podium only polling home games is wild. He and the other mids need to sort it out, more leg room on the planes

Might have no impact whatsoever but I do feel as though none of boys prepare themselves for cold weather games.

You see them rock up to a 10 degree game in the wet at Marvel wearing the same kit they wear on the Gold Coast.

No different to seeing Victorian teams run out of legs when they travel to play us or Brisbane up here in the heat, if you're not used to the conditions you're going to have a hard time running out games. In the cold especially, you pause for a minute and you cool down a lot quicker. Body contact would hurt more as well.

Would make sense to see some of the boys wearing compression undershirts or long sleeves or something.

It likely plays a part in why we play well in Darwin and better in Perth than we do in Melbourne.

We all do hope they can sort it all out. Our future depends on it

If we had quality over quantity our story line would be a lot different

Rowell and Anderson are both in the top 10 worse inside 50 kicks in the competition.

To be fair, you can't read to much into it.

All of the top 10 worst inside 50 kicks are midfielders and the top 10 best inside 50 kicks are half backs or half forwards.

It's just another empty stat to cause headlines.

With Anderson playing with a bit more freedom on the outside compared to the other inside mids, he does need to get much better at finding a target or at least lowering the eyes going inside 50. Easily the worst offender when it comes to just absolutely launching it inside 50 when he has time and space and it does let us down a bit.

Wants too see humper given more midfield minutes or even behind the ball 👀

“Humper from behind”, I think I’ve seen that movie. Was a double feature with “Saving Ryan’s private's”

Montagna on MMM Sunday Rub was quite bullish on the Sun's. Interesting as he has been critical through the year.

His point (paraphrasing) was they are a very young team doing a lot right, fix up the inside 50's and it will turn quickly.
He is right… not sure it’s the inside 50s as it’s just as much the forwards inside the F50 converting chances and making space

Last 2 rounds it was simply not converting set shots and not taking opportunities. Shaking my head after re-watching first quarter. Painful to watch. Lions go the other way and score every time.
