Thats contender for worst game of the year for me.

Just...one...more...MOON!

(Does anyone know if there is a way to see your moon total across all maps or do you have to add them up from each map individually to see how many you’ve collected?)
Doesn't the Odyssey display the total of moons?

Started playing, good fun. Don't see it pipping Nier, PUBG or BotW for me just yet for GOTY (or Galaxy for my favourite 3D Mario). Has quality all over it though.

Decided to try playing with joy cons, it's a lot better than I expected. I've never used them before but I quickly got used to them. I've found the game plays better, control wise with them. New Donk City is an epic level. Just an amazing game.

Yeah, I just remembered that after I asked lol.

That's a ripper effort. I haven't even broken 100 haha. the globe on the odyssey tells you your total
Sorry, lost in translation. I meant that I can’t stop playing. I’m no where near moon completion haha. Probably at the 100-150 range.

I've been playing the same way with camera and motion controls on high.

I'm well past the credits now and every time I think I'm getting close to done this game throws something amazing at me.

How good is this game? Haven't been hooked on something as much as this for a long time. Finished the story bit and am on 279, every time I think I've done all that is possible to do in X place I discover something else. I love it.

Also, side note: this is the first 3D game I've played where swimming doesn't feel completely off. It only took 20-odd years for developers to work it out.

So my complaint about motion controls seems fairly valid, the most annoying of which is making the hat home in. Fine and dandy (if unnecessary) with the pro controller, just bad design while undocked.

Completed the game with 197 moons.

A solid 8.5/10 for me.

Had a blast with the game. It was a lot of fun exploring the environments. I look forward to collecting a couple of hundred more moons.

The game has a few issues:
1. It's very easy. There isn't a great deal of challenge in the base game.
2. The boss battles are very repetitive and a case of style over substance. Even the final battle is just a repeat of an earlier battle.
3. There isn't a great deal of challenging platforming.

I also didn't think the game was as innovative as Super Mario Galaxy.

Nevertheless, the game excels at what it tries to do and is a joy to play. I would have preferred fewer moons but a greater feeling of accomplishment when you find one. It did seem as though Nintendo just packed as many moons as they could into the environment.

Game is certainly pretty and Mario controls fantastically. Possessing enemies created a lot of interesting gameplay and secrets. Didn't much like the swimming controls but I suppose they are faithful to the old 2D games.

I'm assuming this means you're just past the credits? A lot of the post game content has a definite spike in difficulty.

Most Mario games are like this these days. All of the most challenging stuff is left until post-game. Galaxy for example didn't get challenging until you started doing to the purple coin runs and comet challenges.

I wouldn't mind a post-credits spike in difficulty but please god no more of that - the one thing I disliked about Galaxy and Sunshine was the collect-a-thons to get a shine - I prefer this current system so far where you can get one by going out of your way.

Got this game on Saturday and really enjoying it :D I have found the Metro Kingdom to be the most fun so far! Graphics are awesome and it's just a super fun game!

I'm up to the Luncheon Kingdom at the moment :)

I like how Nintendo used a variable resolution in this game so it always maintains 60 fps. It's nice that at least one developer realises how important framerates are. This game runs silky smooth and it wouldn't feel right if it we're stuck at 30 fps.

I kind of like the brutality of those purple coin runs. It reminded me of the good old days of Mario games. Remember how harsh those final couple of worlds we're in SMB3? Nintendo doesn't make them that hard anymore.
