Re: Why would you?

It takes a 'dick' to do it! And I just couldn't help myself Bez (And yes, i saw the 'new')

i wanted to bag him too, but its the kids last day of school holidays here in melb so I ignored his childish post lol

Why would it be fair if Sydney lose 3 players/picks and the other 2 teams only lose 2 players/picks? I dont think pick 38 would be involved in this deal. That deal alone seems fair enough to me without adding more picks to the deal. We're losing a premiership player, which should be more value than Staker, Dalziell or Seaby.

Seaby is a premiership player or did u forget

Re: Why would you?

Just reported on the knews that you agreed ultimately to give up Buchanan and pick 22 for Seaby and pick 28. If it occurs you have basically downgraded your pick and added an absolute crab of a ruckman although I don rate Buchanan much either. At best Seaby would be worth a 4th rnder not an early 2nd rnder.

You opinion doesn't dictate player value, the market does, and the market has spoken.

Re: Why would you?

If Brisbane are silly enough to give us 28 why wouldnt we give that to the eagles instead of 22???

Id rather take a wide berth and 'experiment' with a kid, Seaby is kind of like settling for fish from a fish market on a sunday arvo just coz you want fish for dinner and its all thats available, personally Id go for a steak instead and tell the fishmonger to stick his Seaby fish up his bum.

The market hasn't spoken until a trade happens. Just because some media outlet has speculated on a trade, doesn't mean any of the parties have agreed to it.

To date, Roos has publically offered a 4th round pick for Seaby. While most of us realise that ain't going to get the job done, it's a bit of a leap from that offer to them (apparently) now agreeing to downgrade our second round pick and through Buchanan essentially in for very little.

Is any other club currently on record as having shown even a smidgeon of interest in Seaby? I imagine the Hawks might well be interested but they've not got a lot of pick currency left given they seem committed to the Gibson deal in some shape or form.

Yeah well, I'm assuming that the report is correct...

It's very rare that any trades of note get completed even by around day 3 of trade week, let alone on the night before it even officially gets underway.

Sydney would surely have to be looking at the Seaby and Jolly trades in tandem. If it becomes clear they're not going to get close to what they think is reasonable for Jolly, they'll probably decide just to hang onto him, in which case there's no reason to trade anything for Seaby unless it is a huge bargain.

On the other hand, if they get offered something pretty tasty for Jolly, getting Seaby becomes important, so maybe they'd be prepared to pay a little more than they otherwise might.

You're absolutely right.

But I guess people are inclined to think that if a three-way trade is reported in detail, as a done deal, there must be something in it.

It is highly likely that we will pay slightly over the odds for seaby. But I think it is coming clear that jolly will be going and that we will do very well out of this trade.

it quotes that a brisbane pick will end up at west coast. maybe the seaby/buchanan gain/loss involving sydney doesn't require a change of picks.

Maybe:

West Coast
Gain: Dalziell, Pick 28
Lose: Staker, Seaby, Pick 39/55

Sydney
Gain: Seaby
Lose: Buchanan

Brisbane

Gain: Staker, Buchanan, Pick 39/55
Lose: Dalziell, Pick 28

More likely anyone?
In the same paper: http://www.theage.com.au/news/rfnews/fev-unlikely-to-become-a-pie/2009/10/04/1254590908381.html

The Swans were last night close to finalising a deal for West Coast ruckman Mark Seaby, who would not replace the highly regarded Jolly, but would at least bolster Sydney's diminished ruck stocks. Experienced midfielder Amon Buchanan is likely to be traded to Brisbane for the Lions' second-round pick (No.28), with the Swans' second pick (No.22) going to West Coast.

That would make absolutely no sense. If we got pick 28 for Buchanan, we'd just trade that pick for Seaby. It looks very fishy to me, I'm going to wait until it's official before rage quitting trade discussions.
