Autopsy Swans Vs Crows Rnd 2 2019

The umps can't cost you a game if you produce enough chances to overcome the set backs of a rough free kick count, or a missed opportunity here and there.

Bald facts are:

We kicked 1 goal in 2 qtrs last week.

We kicked 1 goal in 2 qtrs this week.

We failed to kick 80 pts both weeks.

Last year we only kicked 100 pts three(?) times was it?

Sadly, until we play in a manner capable of generating 100pts in a game regularly we're just rebuilding.

It's not season over, though. Team just needs to focus on the positives and fix what we have control over.

Good post. Though I think that Longmire is now incapable of looking beyond reinforcement of the negative. And that is the rub this year.

Nothing to do with dogs or homework... but as a contributor as to why we might be out of form and/or fitness, I think it's a reasonable contention. Happy for you to disagree...

It would be an inconvenience no more than that. A team with the right attitude can go to any oval in Australia that has grass on it and is 400 metres in circumference and do what is required to get AFL footy Fit and do the right drills that its game style requires. They haven't lost their footballs have they and do still have a gym to train out of ? Again it is inconvenient and would have some minor restrictions but for the 2 basics of this game skill and fitness it is no excuse.

Reid had 9 possessions, kicked 1 goal and took 2 marks yet looks like having a good year. Obviously he didn’t kill your cat.

Absolutely robbed by the umps of two marks/frees right in front of the sticks. Not much more he could have done as a FFWD.
In any fairly umpired game he has 3 goals and we are right in the hunt.
Did you want him in defense getting cheap possessions?

I beg to differ. Was there for the Bulldogs GF and can absolutely confirm the umps can cost you a game.
Maybe we don't win yesterday with balanced umpiring, but we make a bloody good game of it.

The melts are going off. But there will come a time where perspective will kick in and we start supporting the team like a bottom 8 team. Where 8 wins a season will be considered a great year. Just like Richmond and Collingwood did from 2011 to 2016, sticking fat with their coaches despite bandwagons to get them out.

After last night our only hope of turning things around quickly is if blokes like Florent and Clarke go from C grade players to A grade in a single preseason. Aka like a Shane Edwards who was arguably D grade 3 years ago. Our playing group is miles off. I still have faith that it will still be a smooth transition, there are positives. But it's going to be a longgg couple of years. Just enjoy and analyse the ride without having to lose your shit all the time. It's just footy, enjoy it for what it is, accept you're going to be at the bottom sometimes no need to get depressed over it. We ain't winning a premiership any time soon so no need to sack horse today, give him the next couple years to try and rebuild, then we can decide.
Totally had me till the last line.

I get that the majority of Richmond fans wanted Dimma gone. I get the majority of Collingwood fans wanted Buckley gone. They even had threads dedicated to the sacking of these coaches. But geez where is the pressure in Horse's case? Dimma and Buckley were ravaged by the media which prompted them to turn it around...

It starts and ends with effort. Defensive intensity used to be our brand and I saw players ball watching and jogging last night. Bang on about "gameplans" all you want but if players don't put in the work then you get poor results like last night.

P.S. Horse, put Mills and Heeney in the guts.

Horse on SEN mentioned Harry playing mids. Personally I just do not see it. I still do not want to see JPK in the mids at centre bounces. Interesting that Papley had five clearances. He had a weird game. Gave away 7 frees and spent more time on the bench than most others. Is the latter a fitness thing?

Probably still building the tank required to play big midfield minutes.

He sure did get his hands on the footy a lot at stoppages. He had 8 clearances all up but I reckon he had another 5-6 where he got first possession but was immediately tackled.

I totally disagree. I do not believe that either Dimma or Buckley turned it around due to outside pressure or media influence. I do believe that they did their absolute best to totally ignore it!

I believe they were able to turn it around because they stuck with their plan and continued to go about their business, REGARDLESS of the outside influence or pressure. I also believe that those in the know at both clubs, were aware of the plan and SUPPORTED it.

Any of this sounding familiar? Because I'm pretty sure this is same plan the Swans have followed for the past 20 years and it absolutely works!

Because it doesn't come out till we're out of finals. What coach gets sacked on the back of 10 finals appearances in a row??
We won't make finals this year, the pressure will start, and just like dimma and Buckley a couple of seasons need to go under the bridge before it reaches breaking point. It's at that crossroad where you give the coach a last gasp chance to turn it around. And then you make the decision. Anyone wanting him out right now is out of touch with reality.

Out of our 12 centre clearances, Papley had 5 of them (rest Kennedy 2, Jones 2, Parker 1, Cunningham 1, Florent 1).

He got his hands to it a lot which is good

Shame about the 8 -9 Clangers and 3 turnovers,

They didn’t stick to plans. They got people like eade in at the pies then ditched him. Blame at the tigers, they changed up the responsibility Buckley and Simms both had

They kept the same coach yes and stood firm there so that’s valid. But around them and the power the coach welded both clubs changed and evolved

Okay

Hey guys, stiff luck last night...I genuinely thought you'd run past them after you got to within 4 at HT.

Anyway, just wanted to express my condolences in advance because at some point in this season: Buddy's direct opponent will take out a flamethrower and set him on fire, shoot him 9 times with a shotgun in full view of everyone but the umpire will just wave play on.

Thanks, I needed that laugh!

Shame about the 8 -9 Clangers and 3 turnovers,

Yeah his kicking needs work or perhaps rather if our outside players worked a bit harder maybe he can give off by hands instead of rushing a kick.

He certainly has a knack of being at the drop of the footy, whether that be in the forward line or in the midfield.

Disagree. In the case of Hardwick the only thing that saved his job was him agreeing to not only replace all his assistants but also to listen to the new ones. How Richmond played in 2017 was vastly different to how they played in 2016.
