Autopsy Swans vs North Round 17, 2018

Really missed Grundy’s presence - his ability to beat his opponent one-on-one while also controlling space and helping his fellow defenders was missed, though they still did well most of the time.

Liked O’Riordan. Keep him in. Did everything right.

A few disappointing players, but honestly, North are a good side on their day (much as we might not like to admit it) and there’s no shame in being beaten by some of their stars.

Would prefer Robinson get the Foote treatment, though to his credit he stood up in the last in a couple of key contests.

Aliir was handy, still struggles one on one but he’s so good at controlling space down back, was extremely important with Grundy out and Rampe preoccupied with Brown. Sealer was icing. Would prefer he only have to play as a true key defender when absolutely necessary.

Ronke... words don’t do him justice. Particularly important with Papley having an up and down year.

I thought Parker lifted in the last after an otherwise poor game. Was much needed, and he delivered. Didn’t keep track of possessions before and after 3/4 time but he won some clutch contests in the final quarter that probably got us over the line. Would still prefer he play well for the full game but he didn’t drop his head and that is very important.

All in all a good win, showed character and grit, to do it without JPK for three quarters is all the more impressive.

Edit: oh and McCartin. Early on thought he might make a good defender, lots of strength but couldn’t quite see him as a target. Glad I didn’t put that in writing too early. Guy has super sticky hands, fantastic. For a skinny kid he is incredible.

Thanks. You sound like one of the few good #lolnorf supporters. Very classy.

Was impressed with some of the kids you guys have uncovered. Thought it was one of Daws best games too.

(btw, the #lolnorf thing is board policy as far as I'm aware :p)

Have to call it the way it is, your depth is insane, just so damn hard to beat gotta admire what you lot continue to do, you will be giving opposition fans a lot of sleepless nights between now and the end of the season, my turn tonight lol.

Seriously, what is wrong with all you people? You just witnessed one of the best games of the season and you're complaining about the umpiring (which really wasn't that bad)? More twists and turns in that last quarter than in most teams' seasons.

The only downside was that I had to watch it at home on the couch and not at the ground because my flight to Melbourne this morning got cancelled and rescheduled to 8:40pm.
Wasn't that bad? They nearly gifted them a win. Enjoy the win but calling it like it is doesn't hurt.

COR didn't disappoint, looks like he belongs at the level. Makes good, quick decisions under pressure and executes cleanly.

Ronke... such a good pick up. Just criminal that we got him through the rookie draft.

Rampe was fantastic as well. Heeney brilliant. Jones with some good moments as well.

Umps were atrocious. They must be full time professionals from next year forward.

Great win, up there with Essendon last year.

I'd rather focus on the heart of this team to never give up, despite it seeming like the momentum had well and truly shifted to North. Their big forwards were dominating, yet the players picked themselves up, took the game on and continued to believe. Love it. Nothing else matters. And certainly not something as uncontrollable as the umpiring.

CHEER CHEER THE RED AND THE WHITE.....

We're just venting. But agree with the rest of your post, we pulled off a very unlikely win.

smith was really bad today.

Eh, yes and no. He got beaten, sure, but Ziebell got on the end of a lot of low-pressure entries which makes it very tough for a defender. Usually he finds a way to negate his opponent most of the time regardless, so yes, he wasn’t at his best, but I don’t think he was actively bad - just got beaten by a very good player with a bid of misfortune on top to make it look worse than it was.

And Ziebull was very good, players can get beaten Smith has had a very good season so far.

i still would not be giving him more than a 1 year contract on a min wage.he has had one really good game this year when he's best mate grundy reached his milestone. but doesn't appear to be able to get up week to week anymore. both he and lloyd kicked it out on the full under no pressure at all.

Sorry to steal your line Bedders but WTFWDWFT?

sinclair lifted after the first quarter.

rampe, jones, cunningham, heeney, mccartin, papley, allir, marsh, parker, buddy, hayward, cor and fox all played well.

hewett and robinson were poor.
