Any one go to the HBL charity match (which was a inter club match with 5 ex dockers on one side and 5 ex eagles on the other side)
Was a poor standard match but with guys like Peter Wilson who would be close to 50 playing as well as Shaun McManus the skills were never going to be slick.
Judging by the crowd would have made a lot of money for charity. Heath Black should be commended for getting it off the ground.

Big fan of Liam, Freezin. Cool head, really good in traffic, when on song and free of injuries a very potent rebounder. Should make a fair mark with the Sharks in the WAFL. What's the brother's name?
Corey. He has an older brother, Travis that played at Colts and Reserves at Swans in the early 2000's.

can anyone tell me what kieran butcher was like as a junior in the swfl? Was he a standout, what type of player is he just any info would be appreciated..
Ive been working in mandurah alot and have been down to a fair few trainings and pre season matches and he looks very impressive for a 17 yr old in the seniors. Seems like he would be a high draft prospect so would like to know more about the kid.
Cheers

I thought he was a standout in the colts last year insider. Lovely, sharp left foot, was good most of the year for Peel colts. Think he played colts the year before that as well?

Not much doubt in my mind he'll get drafted insider. Thought he could still play colts but he was really impressive last year, when the chips were down especially.

So the GC have the first 5 picks this year right?

I can still see him sliding to pick 13/14 with Swallow already one being commited to by GC, Darling and H Bennell are also likely to be picked up by them as well and with others from Vic, SA this year I can see this year being a strong draft for some reason. would be good from a WCE perspective if he does slide to 13 or 14.

I should be on top of this but does anyone know when the SWFL pre-season comp starts? If they are having one this year?

Harvey have recruited some former ruckman who played for East Perth, Robinson and a 4 time WAFL premiership, 3 of them at Subiaco I think his name was Hayes

I have also been imformed that Brad Smith (Subiaco) will also be at the bulls this season. So much for them winning the wooden spoon last year in their first season in the SWFL, I can't see them finishing last this year

Cheers for the info bbay.

I reckon its average how they have tried to cram in the carnival this year. I mean It should have been done over 2 weekends.

Winning Team Rated 1 v Winning Team Rated 2 for the GF and there are three pools? A bit confusing But I assume it is the side that wins/ most percentage that progresses?

I would have to say It will probably be the Carey Park vs South Bunbury in the GF but they could have done this pool system last week. The winners of these 3 pools play in a pool this week and who ever finished on top wins the pre-season comp.

Having 4 teams at one venue is not ideal. Also with the Grand Final being played on the Sunday it seems a little unfair that the Grand Final teams have to back up the following day. There goes the players weekend.

I know Carey Park played a lightning carnival in Manjimup over the weekend and they were undefeated down there. Think South Bunbury and HBL played on Friday night at Hands Oval too, not sure of the result.

I have noticed there is a fair bit of SWFL followers who come in the WAFL board to talk about the competition. Since there is no WA regional forum on here (rather not have one anyway) and the SWFL is the biggest competition outside the WAFL I thought it was only natural that it had its own thread.

The first major news for the year would be Heath Black coaching HBL but I don't really want to discuss that.

What does everyone think about the new points system the SWFL may bring into play to even out the competition. (like the WAFL system) I think it was 7 points for an ex AFL player, 5 for an ex WAFL player and 1 point for a local player.

Can anyone see this going ahead? And does this include all players at the club including those who are playing in the resys? Will some resy players be turned away due to this points system as a club aims to improve their league list with WAFL players?

I believe it's a ok idea but there are cracks in the system

This will b the best thing to happen to south west football. You have clubs like souths and carey park rolling with money and can afford to pay 8 to 10 players, then struggling clubs like eaton and august marg river will continue to b down the botom becuase they cant afford to pay these players. the boomers have the best young talent in the comp so if the points system comes in, for example each club will get like 3 paid players and then that leaves the rest up to the young guns for these clubs. it will even it out and give the local talent a huge go

Is there any news that this will be going ahead in the future? I assume it's too late to start this year but developing local talent needs to be rewarded. I am right with you the Boomers are ready for a real crack at a premiership soon if they can keep all of those local players and this new system comes into play

I think they might be trialing it this year not certain though and maybe coming in next year. Yer thats it, with this system teams like the Boomers would probably be on top of ladder. Lets hope it does happen, there is nothing but positives if this happens.

From all accounts I hear Brad Smith will only play a handful of games for the bulls this season. I'm led to believe that his commitments with WCE will limit the games he can play, but if the bulls are there abouts come finals time and he is available I'm sure there will be a few nervous SWFL teams.

There are 18 home and away games in a season starting from 17 April and round 18 is around late August.

How many games do you think he will play? At least half?

Watched a bit of South Bunbury taking on North Beach on Saturday afternoon. North beach won by about 6 goals and looked a very slick unit. Souths were missing a few players (Beau Tann, Adam Harper and Blake Arnold to name a few) but have picked up a couple of nice recruits in Tyson lee and Tim Malseed. It was a pretty high standard game, especially considering it was blustery.

Carey Park played Stirling and Eaton played Baldivis over the weekend too I think. Not sure of scores for those though.

They were some big outs for South Bunbury but some big in's as well. You would think a full strength SB would beat a full strength north beach side by a goal or 2, nothing more though. I have always been wondering which competition was stronger SWFL or Ammos A grade. This practice game doesn't really help though as I bet neither side were at full strength

Eaton won by 8 goals. Thats two wins from two games, they are looking the goods for this year,

Carey Park beat Stirling quite convincingly. Kingsley Hunter is player / coach for Stirling played some good patches and kicked some good goals in the blustery conditions.
Should be interesting in next weekends pre season carnival if all teams have players available.

In terms of grading the teams and competitions it is best to use the Ammos league comparison

SWFL = A grade easily, with the bottom side probably being a very high B grade team

PFL would not be that far behind at all but would have to settle as for mid - low B grade in terms of comparison with teams in the Ammos.

Their 2 wins have being against Pinjarra and Baldivis, the Peel football league is an inferior competition. I wouldn't judge Eaton's chances until they front up to some strong SWFL teams.

Hard to judge teams in the SWFL over the pre season. Most teams won't field a full strength side till round 3 or 4 with players work commitments, availability etc.
Eaton are still a young side with some talented names in the mix. I'm sure they'll be competitive throughout the season.
