Tonight broke me.

After Hannebery poleaxed Hurley and it was called play on, I left my seat, started walking along the concourse and just started yelling profanities.
I don't think I've ever been as angry at a match as I was after that bump. I let out so much emotion after that I felt completely drained. After it I just sat in silence for the rest of the game.

I think what I find most disappointing is the fact that I don't believe our players think they can win every week. Last year, for the first time in ages, I really think they went onto the field believing they were a realistic chance to win against any team. No we didn't win them all.. but at no point did I feel the players would give up or feel they were the inferior team.

In contrast.. at no point did our players look like they felt they could win. They were defeated before the ball was even bounced. Carlisle as sub kind of summed up the whole thing. Flat, listless and dispassionate group before a shot was fired.

We have stopped believing we are fitter, that we are better, that we are a top 4 side.. I think the team now believes they are crap and has no confidence in themselves, each other or the systems in place.

Whether Jim can turn it around, I really don't know. Whether we need a completely clean slate.. from top to bottom I don't know. One thing is for sure.. this current group right now are miles, MILES, off the pace of top 4 or even finals footy. Miles.

Unless we want to spend another 15 years in the wilderness.. things need to change and fast.

I'm so sick of seeing Goddard mope around in the back half and rack up his 30 touches. Play him up forward FFS, I rather watch him get 18 possessions, hit a few blokes on the tit and kick a few himself.

He tried, Ryder dropped a dolly!

i would say the main problem is that unfortunately we cant expect watson to get the ball and then get the ball to a forward all the time

other problems in the midfield include being unable to tackle, break tackles, run into space, run around players and mark the ball

they did however play better in the second half and the swans played sensationally and barely missed a kick, which thankfully wont always happen

as for hurley/hannebery. annebery was unquestionably going for the ball. he was also unquestionably, in my view, making sure he made contact with hurley so uh. i guess it'll come down to "realistic alternative". i think they was (you know, the way Hurley contested it), but I'm really unsure which way it'll go

Hurley was head down paddling the ball, plenty of time for Hannebury to realise that any contact will be head high. This is not a split second Jack Viney incident, Hannebury had time to sum things up, yet chose to go for body contact which resulted in a very serious high contact. He will go for weeks.

I spend over a thousand bucks a year on footy. My old man is the same.

Is it too much to ask that we can go to a game 16 times a year for that investment and watch two teams play against each other on a level playing field?

I'm ****ing sick of the bullshit umpiring the salary cap cheats get. We have the right to see two teams play on a level footing to see who is better. $120 later tonight including $6.60 for a bucket of ****ing soggy chips and we go home without seeing a contest.

I've decided to be positive since the negatives are depressing.
Zac Merrett showed heaps - what a great kick he is. He won't play every game from here on out but I'd be shocked if he doesn't become a very good player for us.
Zaharakis - moved and used the ball far better than he has been this year. Also took some running bounces and gave some run and carry for the team. It could be the start of something.
Bellchambers - Got through the game, did alright and got better as it wore on gave me confidence that post bye we will have more flexibility.
Watson/Goddard were quality as usual.

That's probably about it really. Well except for the important stuff like: My supercoach team and tipping is spot on this round so far.

I know everyone will be a bit down but we have the bye and then we will get Winderlich/Chapman back basically completing our full strength team. We are 4-5 with some winnable games coming up. I know the mood is down but I think we will still play some good footy again this year.

Surely the Carlilse experiment comes to a close now.. It just makes no sense picking a big bloke as the sub...

Put him back where he plays his best footy, if you need to manufacture a forward, do it elsewhere, otherwise, put Hurley forward (despite how well he is playing back), he is a competitive beast and we seriously lack a competitive beast inside 50 unless Goddard goes forward. Also put Kommer next to him...

Shhhh, criticising the umpires is against the mighty leader's rules

The Carlisle massacre will not end until Thompson leaves. We are stuck with the disaster until then because Bomber is a stubborn arseh*le.

Oh oh oh but Carlisle kicked 2 BIG goals in the last quarter.. what a super sub...

also it's a really moot point but i don't really agree with people calling it a bump. a bump for me is when you dont go for the ball, and purely for the ball. that's clearly not the case here. this is something different. it's a bit of both imo, which is why it's not an open and shut case. and hannebery's "to be honest i didn't see him" line does have to be considered. i'm sure, if charged, hannebery's legal team will go looking for video examples of hannebery contesting the ball in that fashion but when basically alone.

Just a couple of questions:
Is there a penalty for Malceski running into the umpire? And what happened with Melksham? According to the AFL site he had 59% TOG, less than Daniher.

But we can all agree it was a clear free kick right???? I mean a Sydney player can headbutt you in the balls and get the free kick.. surely having your head compacted into your spine earns something????

I'll have a go at people using it to deflect away from how painfully average this team is, which several people are, because they don't want to consider the truth. People are very eager to blame everything under the sun for shit performances from this team (coming back from Perth, it's too hot, players were sick, umpires, ASADA (which is probably somewhat valid mind you)) but the truth is we just aren't good enough. I'm sorry, but we aren't.

We all, unfortunately, realise that, that's what the deep down anger is. But at the moment the anger at the surface was from that 3 hour farce I just watched. And I need to get through that before I can focus on anything else.

of course it was a free kick. free kicks are missed all the time but given the context of the game nobody should expect essendon fans to just accept it.

hey, remember that time McVeigh was caught high by his own teammate and got a free?

yeah. Good times..

Over possesion until a turnover. Makes no sense to me?

Playing on at all costs only to turnover. Makes no sense to me?

Dempsey needs some awareness of the game around him and not get angry when something doesn't go his way.

Hard to fault the backline but I'd love to see Hibberd slow down a bit more.

Ryder led really well i50.

Melksham, well I'm not sure where he's at again. Just gets lots of kms in his legs.

Ch7 went on about it but I don't think Jobe was that impressive tonight, for his standards. The cleanliness just isn't there at the moment.

Anyway, we played the last 3 quarters better than the scoreboard suggests. Keep Bellchambers fit and it opens up our options with him and Ryder. I'm probably more pissed off at the umpires tonight than anything. I was more unhappy at the team the past 2 weeks than tonight.
