Well done Swannies for their win today but difficult to not feel that clearly these concessions are distorting the comp. Ridiculous how quickly they can rebuild with the access to the academy.

None of our academy players had a particularly good game today.
Not early first round picks.
The northern academies are not an "equalisation" measure - they are the complete opposite, a handout to specific teams to circumvent one of the pillars of equalisation which is the draft.
It's the access to the top level young players when you are still competing which sets you up for runs like this. Basically I'm just bitter (after a painful and difficult rebuild) but if you think your concessions don't give you an advantage you are just as one eyed as the Vic lot.None of our academy players had a particularly good game today.

The question has to be asked, is it time to cut the swans academy access?
Most supported club in Australia and by a long margin.
Goes to show the game is well and strong in Sydney for the Swans which is the whole justification for the academy.
“The Sydney Swans have again topped the annual Roy Morgan AFL supporter ladder as the only club with over 1 million supporters”
That's not the justification for the academy. Run along.
The academy is in place to grow the game in NSW and keep home grown talent in NSW. This study shows the game and the Swans are well and truely popular which addresses the first need, the second need is no different to any other club and their desire to continue to attract home grown talent.
Do they just give us an advantage? Or GWS/GC/BRIS as well? It's the access to the top level young players when you are still competing which sets you up for runs like this. I was so happy that Swans Academy product Robbie Fox put in such a massive performance, especially that late smother. Swans Academy product Sam Reid up forward was huge as well!! And Swans Academy product Tom Hickey dominating in the ruck was outstanding.

Braeden Campbell didn't even get a minute of game time!
So there’s a magic number then that should be “reached”in swans supporters eyes before any academy concessions are repealed back to traditional football states sides? So how many players from NSW are currently in the AFL?

That’s not the criteria. The game is obviously popular amongst people in NSW and many play the game.
For reference, 70,000 people are registered to play AFL in NSW.
South Australia has 68,000.....
If less players come out of NSW, that is due to the talent level and should not instead provide priority access to the top talent when it is there.
The game is well and truely strong in NSW which is backed by the numbers and contradicts the reason for the academy’s.

"Talent level". Lol.
"Yeah NSW produces less players than SA despite having more registered players cos they're just no good"
You can’t argue with the stats.
More people play Aussie rules in NSW then they do in SA. Plenty of players from NSW have made it to the top level. There is no justification for singling out priority access to them.
But in theory, getting first crack at the odd home grown talent each year is fair given every other player comes from the AFL states and there will always be the go home factor.
So Mills, Heeney, Blakely, Campbell, Gulden, etc wouldn’t have ever wanted to come home to Sydney if they were drafted interstate?
What prevents NSW players from wanting to come home any more then it does anywhere else?
