I didn't know that. What a campaigner.
He liked to trash talk on field a lot. Had some favourite targets - pretty sure Scott Camporeale was one of them.

Who was it on our team who decided to call the opposition "green" something or other, instead of "black", to get around vilification rules. I can't remember the whole story, but all clubs have to do better, including ours.

Danni Laidley's coaching of her indigenous players left a great deal to be desired too.

Does this need it's own thread?

It will likely be a huge. If successful, it won't stop at Aboriginal players either.
I linked Sonja's thread on Jimmy Krakouer above and in respect of the existing content it makes a lot of sense to use it for comments relevant to this class action.

I totally agree with you that there will be a lot of unhealed wounds that will open when this festering bandaid is peeled back.

I'm still amazed Michaelk Warner managed to get a full extensive comment from Sheedy in when apparently Russell Jackson couldn't get one from Clarko because ... reasons.

The media report this as an "explosive racism" claim as if it is a shock that racism exists in the AFL (or more broadly in sports and society). Or is it explosive because they never considered such a class action would ever be launched?
Surprise mother ****ers… Aussies are racist… who’d have thought? Smack me down with a feather. Incredible, who’d have thought?

If Essendon and Sheedy and the players involved don't own shit like happens here, all their Dreamtime Game stuff is just bullshit, marketing spin, means nothing.

Well well well.

Racist dog Sheedy coached his racist dog players like Duckworth and Daniher to abuse Phillip and Jimmy.

Now he denied it the lying old soak.

And of course the Essenscum back him.

As long as Essendon keep this turn on their board - RACIST CLUB

I distinctly remember a game at the G in the mid-80s where it was blatantly obvious from the first bounce that the Essendon players were instructed to upset Jimmy.

Whilst clearly not being able to hear what they were saying, you didn’t have to be Einstein to work out what was going on. As a young 13 or 14 year-old sitting in top deck Bay 15 of the old Southern Stand, my response to witnessing Jimmy’s treatment remains vivid - “Sheedy, you f$&!ing racist”.

It is somewhat hard to understand given Sheedy’s embrace and championing of First Nations players in recent decades. Perhaps there was an awakening in him once he saw the hurt in Michael Long - unfortunately, that was too late for Phil and Jimmy.

If he’s serious he should.

We employed him.

We knew he was racially abused.

We seemingly did nothing.

Jimmy and Phil’s first coach was Barry Cable (indigenous himself) then followed by John Kennedy (married to an Italian). I imagine both of them would have been sympathetic to Jimmy and Phil’s experiences on field and created a supportive environment within the club. Not sure what happened when Kennedy finished up but was it more than just money that saw Kickett and the Krakouers all leave at the end of 1989?

By refusing to acknowledge this stuff he's retraumatising Phil and Jim.

And shitting on any "legacy" he may

The awakening was he could win with a couple of indigenous boys on the list.

Yep, if you can't beat them or sledge them enough to win, join them
