Signed.. three year deal.. done and dusted.. quick wasnt it??hodge15 said:thornton hasnt signed with carlton yet
his manager has said negotiations will start
Robbie said:Will the Carlton fans boo him next year?
He clearly doesn't want to be at Optus.
Messy situation, no winners out of it.
The Old Dark Navy's said:The club formed a plan and held their nerve. Nice effort by all. Thornton didn't fall out with his teammates and if the team wins a few more matches next year, all will be forgotten. Players play for each other, not a craggy old coach.
Come on Jordan ... more game time, the group improving together ... you know you want to.
Fantastic result. Welcome back to the fold T-Bird. Nicely done Carlton ... crisis averted for the time being.

The real questions remain:
1. Why Carlton didn't convince him to stay well before trade week, if he was thought to be so important to their future?
2. What sort of contract will we be paying him, given what has transpired?
3. Why were Carlton so decisively on the back foot throughout the trading period and before. Why weren't we the team making an aggressive play for a young, out-of-contract player at another club?

I got that impression as well while listening to Felcher's comments on SEN after the trade deadline expired. He seemed pretty confident that the hawks would get him in the PSD.TheHeatleyStand said:You were just stringing him along to enter via the psd... and it didnt work..
You could call Pelchen a tripper..Hornet said:I got that impression as well while listening to Felcher's comments on SEN after the trade deadline expired. He seemed pretty confident that the hawks would get him in the PSD.
The stance is rosy, that's for sure. Some nice work there.itsintheblood said:You paint a nice rosy picture ODN.

And his used by date is well and truly up now...
He is abit obvious in a culture thats unforgiving to that kind of thing.
He is better off going and working for the Storm or something...
Where that kind of thing goes on...
Simo19 said:Pelchen did a good job, got a 2nd rounder for everitt, who's 32. Tried to get Thornton, but Carlton wouldnt wanna listen, not much he could do about that. Wouldnt have mattered who it was carlton would not have dealt on Thornton.

Robber Baron said:You are just jealous that you dont have the Pelcinator at your club, you guys did nothing during trade week.
You should thank us for Thornten signing up with you guys, because if it want for Hawthron he would have told you guys that he was not happy and wanted a better deal.
How much is he on??Black Panther said:A good ordinary footballer is now the Bloos highest paid player
Sums up their problems to a tee
TheHeatleyStand said:so apart from losing Everett for a pick that we will have around 4 before.. and waiting to lay the T Bird egg you guys did alot????.. and we need a Pelcinator for that????
Uh huh.. ok then...
Just goes to show how much of your own bathwater you drink.,..
knackers27 said:All the people who are saying that thornton only stayed cause we have pick 1 are kidding themselves (mostly hawks supporters).
If you have any idea you would know that if Thornton really wanted to get to the hawks through the PSD than he would have just made himself unavailable by putting his price out of reach, becuase they still need to agree to contract terms through the PSD. Therefore making himself for the Hawks or any other side.
Truth is that Thornton stayed because we matched their offer and are now going to pay him what he is worth, Thornton obviouslly has the club at heart because he didn't want them to waste their nuimber 1 pick in the PSD on him. So we could get better players.
I think it was a bit of a messy process but the club gets to keep him and he gets the cash he deserves and we keep our PSD number 1 pick.
The hawks lost nothing cause they didn't have anything to lose.
One pick of first pick in the third round isnt that good a deal... its not like he brought home the bacon...Robber Baron said:Well, he is the best in the business and you guys were too scared to trade with him because he wuld of bent you over hes is that good. Anyway, we dont want Thornten anyway and you can have him and we are happy to keep the Pelchinator because he will get us great deals like he did with Spida and Hay next year as well.
