I know this will recieve negative attention, but the trade worked out better for Melbourne than Collingwood. He was a fair player this year. He was good in the middle, but with the exception of the first adelaide clash didnt win games for us. Though you can not expect a normal player to win games, but he is on at least 400-450 thousand a year. It was good this year because we didnt have to pay his full salary but now we will be burden the full weight of his salary and he is not the money. He is one of our softest players, if not the softest and we would be soft not to expect more from the brownlow medallist. Smart trade by the dees.

Generally, he wasnt that soft and he wasnt that bad.

Before his contract expires, its up to him to prove he his worth his salary. But as it stands now Collingwood is getting value because Melbourne are subsdising his pay.

It takes the combined efforts of 22 players to win games, not just one. Woey was a valuable contributor in many of the wins we had.

As for the smart trade bit. Melbourne subsidised his payments and slid from a preliminary finalist in 2002 to third last in 2003. Just how do you justify it as a smart trade?

Just to clear things up, I am almost certain we are paying between $20,000-$40,000 of his salary. Not much.

Anyway, I supported the trade from the word go. Some Melbourne fans were dirty with the club, but they seem to have gone a bit quiet after his average Finals series.

Anyway, we ended up getting Chris Heffernan and Daniel Bell in the deal. I love Heff and Bell is exciting. I'm happy with what we got in the deal.

I was talking to knuckles the other day(chris danaher) and he said collingwood allowed melbourne to defer some of the payment and that there is still 160k owing that is why eddie was so ****ed off at them and made the "bite the hand that feeds you" statement

You're the type of person that would have Kinnear on the list ahead of Woewodin.

Well "Woey" beat us (essendon) in round 22 he was quite clearly B.O.G in the First half and most of the second. While yes he isnt an all star he is definatly a good player who could walk into most team midfeilds.

Woey is slow and highly inconsistent.

In my opinion, the trade was in no way a win for Collingwood or Melbourne.

You have to be realistic, and when you really look at the situation, Collingwood have hardly benefited from Woey's presence. At the same time, Melbourne lost their club star, their Brownlow Medalist, and consequently, had a weak midfield in 03. On top of that, it became apparent that, the pressure was far too much for Yze, Johnstone and co... and now, Melbourne look medicore.

Funny how it works, I guess

Didn't I clean up on that? ;)

145 points he was worth, wasn't he? ;)

I can tell you Pie fans that you are severely mis-guided on how much we are paying Woewodin.

After speaking with an official (who now coaches in one of the leagues down here) who was high up at Melbourne when the Woewodin trade happened, I can safely say that we are not paying anymore than $50,000 a year for his contract.

He also stated Woewodin was "basically on $500,000 a season" and that "he was only worth half that. The brownlow killed him".

We got Bell and Heff, you got Woey. I'm not complaining.

Do Melbourne supporters actually watch football?

Woey had an inconsistant year, fair call. But to say that Chris Heffernan ably replaced him ARE YOU MAD. Woey had a couple of best on grounds, particularly against the bombers when he shut down "MR ALL AROUND AFL GOLDEN CHILD" (JAmes HIrd), what did Heffernan do, and what has he ever done?
Woey will be ever better next year and then the Melbourne members, thats right all 4 of you, will be questioning why you got rid of him.

Did Woey's BOG's against Essendon include the James Hird ANZAC day massacre and the Round 22 match which Hird got 2 Brownlow votes for a combined 5/6 possible votes versus Collingwood?

Heffernan is a gun. I'm sure you would agree with me if he was at Collingwood.

His game against Geelong was one of the best I have seen by a Melbourne player ever.

haha.

I don't see what use players are who consistently choke in Finals. Just ask any Port Adelaide fan.

Oh and by the way, Heffernan tore Woewodin a new a*sehole in the 2000 GF.

Not surprised either.

Thats a bit much.

Good player. Thats about it. A lot like Woey in that sense.

You did give away pick No.12(Winderlich = Potential Excitement machine) for him.

I did see that goal Heff' kicked against Geelong. It was a great goal and good game by him.

Pity you lost.....................

We actually got him and Nick Smith for Laycock. Big win for us.

Fair enough comments though.

Really?

My mistake.

If it was Just Laycock for Heffernan, I would have to say Essendon would have won in that trade - Athletic, Agile Talls with great hands are goooooooooooood.

'But cause you got Nick Smith (Man mountian with excellent hands), you win. :)
