Not Scully, not Morton (you can have him if you want) TAKE COL SYLVIA.

I've had him! People can continue to live in denial all they want but besides a couple of good patches he has been nothing short of disgraceful all year.

He has gone backwards when we so desperately needed him to go forwards. He is nowhere near the player he was last year and I'm sick and tired of waiting to see him show the potential that he rarely shows.

**** HIM OFF!!!!!!!

GWS should take Morton off our hands.

Rubbish thread.

Poor game from Col tonight, nobody could argue that, but it's his first genuinely bad game of the year. 2011 has been Colin's most consistent year to date.

Get a grip.

id disagree with that i reckon he was better last year, on one hand i still dont think he is anywere near the player he could be, on the other hand saying get rid of him is a bit stupid.. certainly a needed player at the mfc... i think he needs to get some agression back into his game looks way to mellowed for my liking

This is the reason why people should not post until at least 10 hours after games.

Uh oh. I got reamed for saying he should have been dropped after the eagles fiasco and now you're asking for him to be traded..

Imo he is the new Travis johnstone. Looks like a brownlow medal winner when we are up and about, but throws the towel in something shocking when we are getting beaten. Senior player? Mckenzie is more senior. I think we do need to hold on to players like Col but what do we have to do to get him to reach his potential?

Played too much up forward today when we need a lift in the midfield. Hell putting him in the backline wouldn't kill him would it.

I still don't think he's got the best out of himself this year, but I'm not keen on targeting him after tonight.

Something I think that happened tonight though is that once again the dependence on our young midfield of our more experienced midfielders (the 2 of them - Moloney and Sylvia) was highlighted. Having Davey and Bail back would help, especially as that would boost the numbers of flexible mids, but at the end of the day we need these young guys to keep battling away for us.

Maybe he just needs to be in a winning side and that isn't such a horrible thing. He doesn't shirk contests so maybe his work rate is such that he can't lift it to the top level. When other players do the work and take the work load down he can deliver, when other players are in the same boat as him and not working hard enough he looks awful.

So the question is do you trade him or do you hope to be good enough to one day that a player like Col is covered by the work of others. When the pies are losing Didak doens't get a kick, same with Varcoe at Geelong.

It sounds like I'm making excuses, but maybe it's reality.

This! Clearly beaten at qtr time by Higgins, I'm suprised it took till the middle of the 3rd qtr for Sylvia to go in the middle, especially since there seemed to be a lack of grunt in there from you guys tonight.

Your right, he plays his best football out of the middle & resting up forward.

When he runs toward the goals he can drill them from 60+, he can also provide great pressure on the opposition when they have the ball.

He has great hands (for marking only as far as I know ), so is always an option inside 50, But I would rather see him there when he has a mismatched opponent, he can dominate them in the air then.

Sting2, not the best call.

If GWS took Morton it would be the best possible result for us.

High draft pick, young, played a lot of football and generly finishes well in the B&F. Compo would be more than his value on the open maket and/or his worth in the side.

By having him up forward we can get more midfield time into Gysberts, McKenzie, Scully and Trengove though.
We can but that doesn't mean its the best option. I would like to see Trengove rested forward, he has really solid hands for a mid. Also Scully roving the pack would be an option too (not that I want that but its something different).

I'm pretty sure your the same knob I heard on SEN.

I think I have stated earlier in the year that he is the new Johnstone and I don't think you can get him to reach his potential. Everyone thought Johnstone would but never did and I think Sylvia will be the same.

At the start of the year I thought if we were going to be a good team Sylvia would have to be the key to making that happen, we are where we are because of Sylvia's ordinary form. He would have to get back into the form of last year fairly quickly before I trust him again.

I agree that Sylvia should have more time in the midfield but I don't know where Moloney, McKenzie, Scully an Gysberts would play if not in the midfield. Trengove is the only one I could see successfully resting forward, although hopefully Gysbert's height will help him in the future.

We should have a rule that all new threads need to be checked by mods if created within 2 hours of a loss.
Thats not a bad idea but we would be accused of totalitarian moderation so we'll let them start them & nuke the ones that cross the line.

Oh & the whoever else requires it too.

Look forward to some updates soon...........

I'm pretty sure your the same knob I heard on SEN.

Was going to post the same thing, but didn't want to be an opposition supporter wreaking havoc.

Sylvia receiving and kicking into the forward 50 is what I would be wanting to see if I were a Melbourne supporter.

Sylvia should really not be played as a forward. He should be a "90% game-time in the middle" player who drifts fwd when possible to kick opportunistic goals.

Anybody else notice how we've been doing nicely for a month now (Collingwood game aside) and we've hardly heard from the sting-flog. As soon as there is negativity to be strewn he's back on board...

Or is that just me?

What was there to say over the last 2 weeks? We beat a weak Dockers side that can't win away from home and an overrated Richmond who are so bad Miller could get a game for them.

The last 2 weeks were nothing we had to win all 3 and in the end we failed dismally. The commentators said the Bulldogs have beaten nobody. Who the hell have we beaten?

Believe it or not I didn't call SEN so I'm not the only one who sees Sylvia as a wasted talent.

I don't see why he's off the hook because he had 1 good year last year after having so many poor years. Not good enough IMO.

Plays well only when the team is winning wtf?

I think you people need to remember who was our best player against Collingwood....

I think he's injured, surely he shouldn't spend the whole game forward like that.
