Still vastly different things. Being mature enough to discuss something in a controlled school environment versus being mature enough for independent access to Social Media.
Fair enough. But they did seem to judge us capable of those concepts back then. Mind you my parents were working at 13-14. That’s ten years younger than some graduates entering the workforce now.

We travelled alone younger too. And there were nutters like ‘the moors murderers’ at large then reportedly Ivan Milats family were up to no good already in the seventies.

I have no doubt that younger teenagers could discuss the negatives of social media comfortably at that age, which is very different from being exposed / immersed in it directly.

agree, but where is the evidence they aren’t mature enough? Some of our govts are thinking they are mature enough to be locked up at 13.

There's tonnes of links.

It’s probably the amount of time I spend on this damn thing. I get the issues, but that is the world they will inherit.

Edit. Sorry, where do they suggest total bans let alone what is the ideal age?

It's true, but finding a balance between unfettered access and prohibition is probably necessary. Better parental education and supervision would likely be far more beneficial than the 'ban them!' approach. Giving them the opportunity to get through those formative years when you're more subject to the negative repercussions of social media without the life experience to balance it out.

I’m thinking the govt will compromise at platforms doing a much better job of implementing their current minimum age. 13 isn’t it in a lot of cases?

13, but it'll still be about parents actually putting some boundaries around how their kids use technology / social media IMO. Pushing for prohibition is just trying to shift the onus on to anyone else.

I’ve never protested in my life but this makes me want to. This is a huge turning point for australia.

It's a shame all the right wingers and 'centrists' happily waved through all those anti-protest laws over the past 20 years.

Good luck with your protest.

Is Jordan Peterson a cult like EFC?

Nah. He has been quite successful over the last 20 years.

Of all the things to get upset about, this seems like the very least important. Or are you 15?

If bullying is the problem - and that’s a very real issue - then there’s really only one solution: make bullying / harassment laws and hold parents responsible.

Social media and interaction is totally embedded in our lives now. Switching it off is just laughable. It’s like trying to ban the phone 100 years ago.

You seemed pretty happy with the crackdown on protesters during covid. Guess it's not just the right and centrists who wave through anti-protest laws.

I was happy to watch cops fight with cookers. I think we both agree that it made for entertaining viewing.

I didn't vote for a government that gave cops more power to crack down on protests.

This has been explained to you multiple times. Do you have problems with your memory?
