Autopsy Tale of two halves vs. Freo

Like four seasons in one day... you get sparkling footy with incredible passages of play; then the seemingly inevitable drop in effort/temperature; then the depressing darkness takes over; then a few late highlights but too few and far between. So deflating, and it's hard to be upbeat after that.

Can't blame the umps for that. Freo worked us out, controlled the game, and we had no answers.
As much as the umpiring was crap, Freo weren't at full strength today and were vulnerable. They controlled the game because we stopped doing what we were doing in the first half.

It's clear that we will be able to put teams to the sword but our forwards need to work harder and structurally be better. Too often Freo got too many numbers behind the ball to cover. It's not good enough.

Unknown at this stage. Either it was that, or a bad cramp. He looked upset either way.
Bolded tells you all you need to know.

That third quarter might be the worst quarter any team plays this season. The umps were a huge joke too, make the bastards live in Shep for a bit.

First half was the best we've played in years. Last quarter was pretty even and we just couldn't make the most of our chances.

Need a strong forward who can at worst neutralise play. Larkey gets pushed out too easily. We need a different system defensively too because we just haemorrhage scoring shots.

I know that collectively we failed and that doing the whole whipping boy things is inaccurate, unproductive, and cruel.

Nevertheless, Dylan Stephens ain’t it.

I’ll happily defend my view

Liked: -1st quarter and a half. The intent was amazing.
-again stopped it blowing out
-Pink looked better
-Powells game
-Wardlaw is an animal

Disliked: -CCJ

Hated: - The third quarter. Being teased and then let down.
  • continued bombing into 50
  • McKercher looking hurt at the end.

It will come. I maintain faith. The kids show signs

Looked like we are so used to not winning, the boys felt uncomfortable being in front and did not know how to go on and be winners.
I read this once. If you’re the underdog your whole life, it means you’ll never win a thing.
We can win these games, It’s time for us to show some steel, strength, commit harder, crack in ruthlessly and start being winners.
5 goals up, we should be confident, put in the same or possibly even more effort… and go on to win

I love you George, but you gotta stop turning it over mate, those handballs......
😥
I did love all the Freo players though, even at the death, looking over their shoulder, almost as it Georgie was approaching them

We were dead on our feet 15 mins into the 2nd Q

On that showing, Zurhaar needs to go into the middle to start the 2nd half

The young guns are young guns

Need a lot more from Stephens, I really hope Ford can build a tank for the wing
Im really liking what Bull offers in the middle. Obviously cant be a permanent feature there. His X factor changed the dynamic for us though and helped stop the rot a fair bit.

Didn’t see the game but if Bull didn’t spend 5 minutes per quarter I the middle, the coaching staff need their heads read.
