This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but Martin could move to Langford's wing. He has already played on a wing and definitely has the tank for it. Perkins ideally plays on a forward flank.

We could do worse than considering the draft capital Langers could bring us. We're on a long road back and I don't think he'll play a significant role. My only misgiving is we'd be trading out his leadership value, but it's worth considering I think.
Langford is 25, turning 26 soon. My view is I believe the ability to rotate him, Martin and Cox between the wings an forward line will be a weapon.

If we’re trading off older value players, Merrett would be the go. About to turn 27, history of concussion, EFCs terrible history with keeping players post 30. He’d have significant trade value because many finalists need more quality ball users, and we could cover his 2023 salary. It would be interesting what St Kilda would offer.

I don’t think I’d do it, but he (and Shiel) would make the most sense out. Langford less so in my mind.

Trouble with Merrett is he has 5 years left and good money and is likely to be the captain next year. Not saying he is untouchable but he is a more complicated trade than Langford. Shiel is also problematical given he has two years at top end dollars.

We also re-signed Langford this year. None are easy trades, all would need a suitor we and they would be happy with.

I do wonder if the Dogs would consider Shiel + #22 for #13 if we paid 100% of his salary assuming Dunkley leaves. They would effectively stave Dunkley’s cap space, add a midfielder (albeit a very different type) and still have a first round presence. Would #22 (with maybe a third) get them Lobb?

Maybe.

Who is calling the shots without a coach? Is it Mahoney or is it the guy who can’t for the life of him build a balanced list?
They will go with the list management plan they have had in place all year even though Truck is gone. It will not just be a Dodoro audible .

That buckenara article !! We have Zack.M who is the one genuine A grader on the list. The rest of them ? Pffft.

The constant cheap shots at Essendon by past hawks players are unhealthy. They often try to make out they are just joking but I disagree.
What shits me is the amount of Hawthorn players in the media. full stop

Ben Dixon, Jason Dunstal, Dermott Brereton, Jordan Lewis, Luke Hodge. It's relentless

I don't think they's trade either, but of the two I'd keep Merrett. I don't see anyone else driving creativity out of midfield. Everyone else sees ball, gets ball, drives forward either by making use of Merrett, running or putting it on the boot. Merrett has the creative nous to cut angles and find players. The only other player I see doing that is McGrath when he's at HB. Dambro looks like he can.

I'd trade Langford. I realise he doesn't have as much trade value, but he's starting to look like deadwood to me.

Haven't read the article. No love for Redman?
Forgot Redman. Yeah, I'd have him up there too. plays a different game but is a great defender. Ridley has been a bit down but has it in him too.

I can't believe the club signed him up for 4 years, absolute joke!
