Why Thurgoona so high ???
favourable draw. the seeded draw works in their favour. PLaying beechworth, wodonga and tallangatta twice could nearly sure up six wins to start. only have to win another 3 to sneak into the top 5 (should be able to achieve on there home ground). Playing Mitta, Chiltern once also helps. Sides like barny, rutherglen, kiewa don't have that luxury

It takes a bit more than a favourable draw to make the five. They were second bottom and won 2 games last yr.

Jury well and truly out on Thurgoona. Very hard to see the doggies making such huge inroads in the space of one season, considering other clubs appear to be strenghtening their lists also. They are coming from a LONG way back, the draw might help, but they still need to win those matches.

Any truth about a number of Dederang players joing barny ( Bradshaw being 1)

Not alot of info re-Barny. Have heard Bradshaw looking elsewhere, would cover Tigers height worry!
Who are the others? What's going on at Dederang, a few on the move?

ran into pagey last week he confirmed bradshaw was leaving as well as another couple who he would not say of. pagey himself is definately retiring so big losses to dederang other than dicketts any other confirmed signatures out there yet??

seen thurgoona a few times last year didn't seem that far away just lacked a bit of polish and at times discipline. Seems to be a well run club which was the most noticable difference and seem to be heading in the right direction.(sleeping giants of the comp maybe) Won't matter where anyone finishes i think it'll be a case of mitta by how far.

Not sure what the problem is at Dederang, Fouracre & Stewart moved to Melb for work, Ohlin been talked into having another crack at O&M, not sure why Bradshaw would go to a rival club, but Barny reckon they've got 3 coming from Dederang. Picked up Dicketts, who is probably not the sort of bloke who would drag many from Albury, particularly competing against Manny, but I have heard that Dale Carroll may pull the boots on again.
My early ladder:
Yack
Mitta
Chiltern
Barny
Kiewa or Dederang
Thurgoona
Rutherglen
Wodonga
Beechworth
Tallangatta

Beechworth and Tallangatta have come down a few pegs Run Straight.
Are there mass omissions from last year? Both have kept pretty quite over the pre season.
Who are the three you mentioned heading to Barny?

mitta
yack
chiltern
dederang
thurgoona
barny
rutherglen
kiewa
tallangatta
wodonga
beechworth

mitta will have to something majorly wrong to not finish in the top spot. i also agree with yack and chiltern, they just playing off to see who gets the home rooms come 1st week of finals. sides like dederang, barny, kiewa, rutherglen will battle out for remaining spots i think.....heading towards dederang and barny!! thurgoona interesting..if they keep key young players from last year and i hear they added some real talents they might be good enough. just have to see if they can play consistently enough to string enough wins back to back to get into 5!!!!

Yes KITM, Beechworth strange decision mid-season to advertise the coaching position, even tho Brocky wanted to stay and did apply, they went for a bloke with a poor coaching record and little or no ability to bring players with him. Brocky and his mates (Crisp etc) have all left. Tallangatta weren't much good last year, and had a late coach appointment (Mathey just before Xmas) which puts them behind the 8 ball recruiting-wise. Reception to Mathey getting the job at Hopperland has been luke-warm at best I'm told, and they rely heavily on bussing players from CSU Thurgoona campus to make up numbers, not a good long term plan. Bullioh will pinch a few with highly respected Mark Nichol coaching.
My contact at Barny wouldn't tell me who the 2 coming from Dederang with Bradshaw are, as they haven't told Dederang yet.

i suppose like every year we'll just have to wait until round 1 to see who lines up interesting gossip but. Should be a cracker of a year in the Tallangatta league. Wish the hume and Tallangatta leagues could get over the red tape and play a one off inter league game under lights at lavy panthers, it would have the same hype and build up to an o&m final. Would get the crowd to match.

You are right on the money there NOP, that game would be a belter. All this other interleague between TDFL & O&K and Hume & Black Range or whatever is just like dancing with your sister.

Unsure if it would have the same hype as an O+M final N.O.P, but I agree it would be better than the match between TDFL and O+K that we witnessed last year.
Who makes the decisions on interleague games and why have they not put the TDFL and the HFL on the same arena??? Seems to me that the two leagues have always had a distinct dislike of each other, add that to the fact that they are very similar in standard would make for a great hit out.

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't the main sticking point the facr that Tallangatta is affiliated with the VCFL and Hume NSW/ACT. If that is the case surely the league's and state bodies for that matter could come to some sort of agreement.

has there been any news about rutherglen ins/outs. I know the Seymours are gone and Winmar and Farmer but any others. Has tallangatta signed anyone bar there coach. Both been fairly quiet

Bumped into an old mate from Melbourne who has been working in the Rutherglen area. Dont know if the club have talked to him but would be crazy not asking as the boy would carve it up at Full Forward even if only half fit.

Has there been a revised draw decided due to the conditions of some clubs grounds? Where do I find an official draw?
A few clubs very quiet on ins/outs, anyone got a surprise signing or some fresh details on the clubs?

the official draw is at www.tallangattadfl.vcfl.com.au go to the competition box and it is all there to see. My firm belief is that the comp will start on time, at the moment there is probably 6 playable grounds. The ones down the Hume are the worry.

I think there are 4 out of 11 grounds that are OK for play right now. Eskdale (pump from river) Rutherglen (have a bore) Wodonga Saints (Martin Park) Thurgoona (Town water). The others are as hard as a cat's head. League aren't panicking till mid-March. If we don't get rain, the League's prefernce is to still play a full season, but with a delayed start and maybe delete the general bye. It is a League that finishes early anyway (GF Sep 15) so they've probably got 4 or 5 weeks up their sleeve.

most clubs have started training now. anyone come across any surprises on the track. Faces that no one really accounted for.
