Anyone know more details about the match between Swansea and Campania that was abandoned at 3/4 time?

It says below the scores in the Mercury "match abandoned at 3/4 time due to player injury" or similar wording.

Reminds me of the previous years game between Ross and Swansea where a player was seriously injured.
A Campania player had a heart attack on the field halfway through the third quarter.Apparently had to be revived a couple of times. Was transported by helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital and is still in a critical condition. Fingers crossed he pulls through. Thoughts are with his family.

Thanks for that,

Terrible news, would have been pretty hard on the club trainers looking after him.

Hope all ends well. Was it a local from Campania?

No, not a local. Is a very well liked and respected person and player though. A few of the boys, especially the young ones are pretty shaken up I have been told. Must have been a terrible sight for them to see a team mate fighting for his life on the footy field.

A CAMPANIA footballer was still in a serious condition last night after collapsing during a game on Saturday.
Kim Nikolai collapsed during the third quarter of the Oatlands District Football Association game against Swansea at Swansea. He was treated by Campania trainers and police on the ground after play was halted. Nikolai was rushed to a Swansea medical service and then flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
A hospital spokesman said Nikolai was in the intensive care unit in a serious but stable condition.
Campania Football Club president Barry Kemp declined to comment on the incident.
No other players were involved in Nikolai's collapse.
The match was abandoned after the incident.

Great news, just heard that kim has just come out of his coma and is talking and even eating, still very weak, but at this stage should make a full recovery.

Heard a few rumours regarding possible draftees from Tassie.

Groenewegen, Crichton, Davies, Harwood to Draft Camp.

Cam Milne, Tom Claridge, Dan Archer to Screening.

Groenewegen the real surprise there.

Anyone have information on Claridge?

Have seen Davies play a few games this year and he looks a real type... His run off the half back line really stands out and he is a likely mid range pick in this years draft... Good pick up for which ever clubs gets him:thumbsu:

He's got poise, a nice height, explosive pace, shrugs off tacklers seemingly with ease.

The downside: a long, penetrating kick that misses targets.

ODFA today at Campania:

Woodsdale 1.2 6.5 8.8 11.9 (75)
Campania 2.0 2.0 2.1 4.1 (25)

Very windy day in the Coal Valley today which made play frustrating for both teams, which lead to a couple of heated moments in the final term

What about the over 40's legends match?

Can only guess Woodsdale would have fielded the likes of Splinter Banks, AB Birchall, Ghosty Rowlands, Gaz Birchall and Rocka Wylie amongst a sprinkling of former superstars :D

Yeah can't say that I saw much of that match sorry, however I did notice a couple of the abovementioned players having a frothie outside the Campania rooms, also saw one of the Graham brothers...however didnt see Gus Dean, but then again he probably hasn't hit that maigcal age of 40 just yet....But it did feel a bit like being at one of the many 90's Grand Final's that the lions won.

I tell you what though the crowd there today resembled any roster game in the compeition prior to 2005 when the reserves competition was kicking around. Although I know the clubs of the ODFA are happy not to have to worry about fielding a reserves side, and with good reason, however with the over 40's game today, it meant there was atlast an additional 100 or so people at the game, with cars pretty much all the way around the perimeter, it made for a very enjoyable day of footy (except for the gale force wind). Makes you wonder if there was any chance the reserves, or atleast an under 16's competition could be re-established.

However on the flip side, if the ODFA hadn't done away with the reserves competition, then clubs like Campania, Woodsdale and Campbell Town (and Mt Pleasant and Swansea for that matter) would not be around today.

Quite true, even back then in the late 1990's clubs struggled big time when they had to field reserves as well - namely Tunnack, Kempton and Ross and to a lesser extent Woodsdale in the early 2000's when the core group of players that had been the nucleus of the powerhouse sides started to retire or have other priorities take precedence, ie families, building a house etc and there was not enough young ones of footy age to replace them as they were still too young back then. These youngsters are all pretty much playing in the current side with a sprinkling of veterans and "imports"

Times have changed in the last ten or so years with most of the young 'uns moving to places of work which invariably means out of the districts and out of reach to most of the country clubs.

The last good year the ODFA had, in my opinion, was 2003 when all 7 clubs were able to field two sides reasonably comfortably. Mt Pleasant had a very large number of young local players, which ultimately was the reason they (we) took the senior premiership, as we had surpless numbers in the reserves to be able to fill places in the senior team when injuries occurred. The entire list (seniors and reserves) was approx. 75% locals and 25% imports, however most of those imports had a link to the team (ie they knew a local player, or they were originally from the area). Unfortunately, it is hard to keep up this enthusiasm when the 25% import players have to travel to and from Hobart twice a week. I think this is also the case with most other clubs, which is why it is hard for clubs now to retain players who need to travel.

The price of petrol also sharply jumped in the early 2000's which might have contributed to less players committing to the country clubs.

If the reserves competition remains unviable, then perhaps the competition needs to entice other former clubs to reform, as only having to commit to one team is the sole reason that Campbell Town reformed this year, which was obviously very attractive to them. This is an area that AFL Tasmania <shudder as I type> should take more of a lead role in offering grants or some form of assistance for clubs to reform.

So you are a former/current Mt Pleasant player.......:p

Quite true with that statement, "petrol" money paid in those days would not even cover the cost of a trip to the canteen now!

I think you will find that the Mussa Johnson coached 1998/99 (?) crop of Mt Pleasant players were quite handy in their own right with the likes of Roger Belcher (William Leith medallist at Norfik later on), Jamie Robson, Nathan Barwick (when he was just a young laddie), Kerry Bearman, Dale Webster, Damien Harwood and Stephen Coleman running around in the blue mounties colours. However they still couldn't get over the line when it came to beating Woodsdale on that one day in September :D

And if you count that little midget Paul Byers who played good games against the weaker teams but was prone to "Ooh my hammy has gone!" when it came to the crunch against stronger teams and then you would see him at the Kentish afterwards walking fine

Hutchins won a close hard fought clash against St Pats today by a couple of goals in the Independant Schools State final. Shame it couldn't have been played without the nasty incident of Jack Boon hospitalising Beau Thorpe(2008 BOG) resulting in he and another Hutchins player being sent off in the first quarter.

"Ohhhh he's being victimised because of who his dad is....."

I've heard a few of the young blokes saying he's a dirty little **** on the ground.

Score from the CHFA Elimination final yesterday

Redpa: 6.5, 12.6, 18.10, 23.11.149

Scotchtown: 2.1, 7.4, 7.4, 9.7.61

Had a nice little push and shove in the 3rd term, which got a bit willing at the height of it, as 20 players tried to wrestle anyone they could.

Nice shot there camel. Reminds me of a few games that Ross participated in last year and the year before when they were more interested in having a fight then actually playing footy.

How are the grounds holding up there on the coast with all the rain? The Campania ground was very heavy under foot yesterday which made it difficult to hit targets. One Swansea player also tried to bounce the ball at one stage, which was a stupid idea considering the ball did not bounce back up at all!!

Hopefully the rain eases off over the next couple of weeks with finals footy coming up, as many of the country grounds down here dont have much of a drainage system installed!

Jack Boon sniping again! When is it all going to catch up with him, hopefully someone will knock his block off in the TSL finals series....mind you hopefully the incident from Yesterday will be investigated and Boon will be suspended. Thorp by all reports, still in hospital, internal bleeding, bruised ribs etc etc. Caused by an un-necessary fist from Boon behind play to Thorp's stomach.
A pity that a young fella has to spend his last ever match for SPC in an ambulance and then in Hospital.
In what was an exciting match and apart from an ugly 1st qtr a very good, hard at it, skilful match between two proud sides. Unfortunatley soured by one J Boon....hang your head in shame!
The boys have come home from St Pats today and reported(not sure how true this is or boys talk) that Thorpes parents are pressing charges. Witnesses to the incident have told me that the damage(bleeding around the liver and broken ribs) was prob caused when Boon drove the knee in when Thorpe was on the ground.

Great action photo, is that Dogger on his bum...................

Here's the usual ODFA wrapup, today from Campania where the first and second semi finals were played:

Second semi

Woodsdale 5.6 5.9 7.12 9.15 (69)
Campania 0.2 3.3 4.4 4.6 (30)

The game was played in very heavy conditions. It rained during the first 3 quarters of the game, making play very difficult. Woodsdale prevailed and advance straight to the Grand Final in 2 weeks.

In the earlier game, Swansea had an easy win over Campbell Town in the first semi. The swans will meet Campania next week in the Preliminary Final, probably to be played again at Campania, with the Grand Final at Oatlands a week later.

Here's hoping the rain stops....
