Gee Duff, hard hitting questions already and we are only a few hours into the season....ooo!
It all depends on what happens during the season, ie internally and externally. I think you might know what I'm leading on about ;)

Boys - from the Hume League in southern NSW. I see that Rennie FC have picked up Marty Hardy and Damien Medwin (Smithton), Mark Best (Forrest Stanley), and Stuart Plunkett (Wynyard). How do these boys go?

Medwin is a great pickup, will slot in up forward. Kicked a few big bags last season for Smithton and is more than capable of doing the same.
Not sure on Marty Hardy, I think he's a defender/midfielder...

How did Claremont go against New Norfolk?

Didn't see a great deal of it, but New Norfolk won by about 6-8 goals. The school of thought afterwards was that the Eagles won't be quite as bad as people think, however playing Claremont in a practice match is a world away from playing Glenorchy, Clarence and North Hobart in the real stuff.

Re: Devils form

Flood said "No forwards, no quality ruckman, a lack of talls in general, no star midfielders, ordinary leaders and a poor coach."

So Flood what is a good coach in you eyes? Give Cressa a go. The set up last year was crazy with training and a very young Nth Melbourne list. How would you have gone?

Sticking with my prediction of 9 wins.

Are you on the AFL Tas payroll?

After saying pre-Grand Final that Clarence were "far superior" to Glenorchy, only for the Magpies to win by 11 goals, your credibility is zero!

Stick to filming games!

2000 under Steve Reissig and a couple of seasons under Ashleigh Brown were the last ones (around 02/03 or 03/04). Last year 5th place when no-one (even myself) thought that, I'll admit I had them for about 8th-9th at the start of last year.

so finishing 5th is a top season???
they never finished better then 4th under ash brown........ but if you think they are good seasons ill let you run with it then

Might not be a top season for Launceston, Ulverstone or Devonport (I think Devonport will take 5th with the list they have)....
but considering their (Latrobe's) mid table finishes over the last couple of seasons, you would take a 5th place finish wouldn't you?

well if they finish 5th they have improved and had an ok season. they had a good list in 05 but had an egg head as a coach and could have gone better hence why i say they have under achieved

Devils defeat Werribee

Up yours Barge,

I have filmed 390 games of footy & sometimes film 6 games a weekend. I watch more of it over the winter than most and been watching it for 29 years. Feel as if I may be entitled to an opinion even if I get it wrong sometimes.

The Devils were awesome today and got up over Werribee by 2-3 goals. They are super fit and playing with heart.

Devils

just got back from Bellerive Oval.
devils won their first game on home soil for more than year, beating werribee by three goals. werribee also had 8 listed north melbourne players.

devils looked good. were up by 42 points at last change, ran out of legs a bit and when tigers came at them went back in shells like last yr.

cornelius kicked 5 from half forward (another avenue to goals for them) and had a hand in at least 3 others. if he finds consistency going to be a jet.
midfield of setchell, street, lachlan george and long had a mountain of it. vearing kicked four off a wing while gilmour was also good.

if they play like they did in the first 3 terms duffs prediction of 9 wins looks good. bongetti was held to one and they still kicked 15 plus got the other plummer to come in.

hazell, geappen, thurley (while injured) and koulouriotis all fairly quiet too.

If you've watched so much footy over the years then that's all the more reason you should have seen what everyone else did last year - that Glenorchy were FAR superior to the Roos!

A serious question - anyone can answer it if they wish - how did Cassidy go today?

Yep, he will be a star if he can get on top of his kicking. What a pair of hands he has and is very, very clever. Good to see him kick 5 after after last week not capitalising on his opportunities.

Launceston smashed North last night. Looks like they will be the team to beat again, although North played a team of short people.

Get used to North playing in a similar style to the Western Bulldogs.

But I think also North didn't search for much height either in the pre season, their only big men pickups are Spencer (Glenorchy) and Daniel Breadmore (Scottsdale).
Losing Roozendaal (Scottsdale) and Muller (George Town) isn't a help. Two very good players lost.

Sounds like a similar tune to their practice match against West Adelaide me thinks??

Egghead? Ashleigh Brown? No, he was a nice coach wasn't he?? :p:p:p

I didn't see Breadmore playing, but he is only a small as well. Spencr will be ok for North, but not against teams like Launceston. He's not very big either and would be a better bet as the second, or even better, the third tall. I also think Wish Wilson was missing, but as i didn't have a program and don't see too many games i'm unsure. I'm pretty sure he was doing a little coaching though of one of the groups in his civies.

Spencer was big in comparison to some of the North L'ton beanpoles out there.

Whish-Wilson is only about 6ft, would slot in as a small forward IMO.
Yep, Whish-wilson was in the coaches box with a few others.

Also, can anyone explain to me why David Law would blast his players after a 5-point win??? Anybody??
Put into consideration that Law's record at Penguin is now 6-15...

You don't suppose that maybe, just maybe, he was unhappy they didn't win by more?

15 goals from 33 scores inidcates they could have kicked a higher score perhaps.

My good mate Duff, I'll have a gander at the clip now and see how the former Claremont boy went!

IMO, he should be happy with winning the game firstly, then work on the technical parts during this week before their next game against Latrobe.
Yeah they missed easy shots, but so did Launceston on Friday night. That does happen...

Latrobe kicked 9.22 against Devonport, but you wouldn't hear about Langmaid squealing...?

Worth noting that Wynyard kicked 15 goals from 28 scoring shots so not that much difference in terms of opportunity? Alot of new faces at Wynyard. Anyone know if Wynyard boys copped a spray?
