I'm sympathetic to the players in that team that actually want to make something of their football and enjoy playing at the highest possible level they can, but have their plight overshadowed by the politics of WadeFL Tas..
I also feel for the players Phoenix, but while the Devils remain in bed with AFL Tas most people would feel the same as me. How bad would those guys feel when they read in the papers that they are expendable and the Scott Wade league is more important than them? A complete restructure of football 'management' in Tasmania is the only thing that will save footy here but unless we make enough noise it will never happen.

Must admit I felt a bit embarrassed for the players myself.
Individually as players they aren't as bad as that result showed, just have absolutely zero confidence at the moment.
Sport's funny like that, no confidence can make even the best look decidedly shithouse.
Don't feel all that sorry for the concept or those that administer it though. Not at all.
Listening to all the sob stories from Messrs Bennett and Smythe in commentary about how the Devils have been the best thing for Tasmanian football had me roaring at the television.
It's time to stop boosting the coffers of the old VFA and start rebuilding our own footy back to where it should be. That includes a massive broom swept through Argyle Street

Why did Lance Spaulding give his team lighters?
Because they kept losing all their matches. :p

NTFA Div 1 have the weekend off
NTFA Div 2 finals tommorrow (my thoughts bolded):
Q/finals at Fingal: Fingal v Old Scotch (Sen), St Pats v Fingal (res)
E/Finals at Evandale: Perth v St Pats (Sen), Perth v OL's (res)

Losing your captain (and most dominant player- kicked them to last year's p'ship) during the season usually hurts. I am sure Lorks will be crying himself to sleep tonight....

Perhaps more so as I was told by my Kermandie source last night, the decision by their highest paid player Jarrod Collis to choose a day in a Corporate Box at the Hawthorn v Brisbane game over playing against Cygnet!

Obviously counted his chickens before they hatched!

Well, Sportstalk07 survived the trip to Fingal today, went down to witness the two Qualifying Finals and again inflated Fingal's bar with his many squillions :p

Anyway, I'll be more serious and give you the full wrap

Qualifying Finals at The Valley
Seniors: Fingal 19.8-122 def Old Scotch 15.6-96
Old Scotch started the better and had the majority of play in the first quarter and a half, before Fingal began to take the advantage. Two crucial misses by Old Scotch near half time (and one unforgivable one from Rob Rigney 10m out) swung the match.
Fingal took control in the third term with a 5 goal to two third term thanks to some of the worst umpiring this season. Free Kick count favoured Fingal 14-3 in the third term and IMO about 4 Fingal free kicks were correctly given. The Umpires evened things up in the final term (as they do) but Fingal had a 37 point lead into the final quarter so the damage was done.

Leading Goalkickers Fingal: Matthew Lowe 5, David Brittain 5, Todd Spilsbury 3
Leading Goalkickers Scotch: Charles Beaumont 6

Reserves: Fingal 12.17-89 def St Pats 9.7-61
Fingal simply outplayed the Saints who were too predictable up forward and played most of the game with one forward in their forward 50. Tight match up to half time (Fingal led by 12 at the main break), before Fingal started to take control despite inaccurate kicking of 3.7 in the third term. St Pats got within two goals in the final term but Fingal sealed it up soon after.

Leading Goalkickers Fingal: Stephen Smart 4
Leading Goalkickers St Pats: Nick Spencer 8

Elimination Finals at Evandale
Seniors: Perth 19.12-126 def St Pats 8.7-55
A dominant performance throughout from Perth who led from start to finish and simply outclassed St Pats in all areas.

Leading Goalkickers Perth: Matthew Williams 4, Anthony Gibbons 4
Leading Goalkickers St Pats: Lenny Towns 3

Reserves: Perth 9.7-61 def OL's 5.2-32
The less said about this game the better!

South Launceston v Devonport at Youngtown (Result pending)

SFL Premier League, and the only game that looks to entice the fans will be at The Beach between Kingborough and Brighton. Remember last year folks when these two teams drew in the final round? I would say Kingborough would just get the points in the final round, and finish with promise this year.
Other games will see the visiting sides get the points, Clarence to maul New Norfolk, Glenorchy to be too good for Lauderdale and North Hobart will show too much polish for Hobart.
New Norfolk v Clarence at Boyer
Kingborough v Brighton at The Beach
Lauderdale v Glenorchy at Lauderdale
Hobart v North Hobart at TCA
Predictions: Clarence by 135, Kingborough by 15, Glenorchy by 70, North Hobart by 58

SFL Regional League
Next Saturday Lindisfarne will enjoy the weekend off, and will almost be heading to see Dodges Ferry and Huonville at Shark Park in the Qualifying final. Dodges will start slight favourites and considering that many would have thought the Sharks would struggle, it's a fair effort from Danny Ling and co.
Huonville again head into this game as the underdog but the same was said of them in 2007 when they went to Oatlands and knocked off the Central Hawks. If they can get Joyce firing then he'll go a long way to sealing the deal. Dodges are even across the board and I expect that to overrun the Lions.
The elimination final is Claremont and Sorell at Abbotsfield Park and like the qualifying final that too can go either way. Sorell again defyed expectations to get into the five against the odds, while Claremont have staggered a touch. Clint Curtain is going to be the one that will swing the match and while 15 against Channel isn't a indicator, going to 107 for the season is staggering! Sorell again are their dogged selfs, with no real standout, but an even spread of contributors, who will need to overcome a poor record at Abbotsfield Park to beat the Maggies, which sadly won't be erased here.
Predictions: Dodges by 22, Claremont by 19

NTFL Round 20
Launceston v Penguin - Launceston by 250 : Launceston to win by the straight
Smithton v Devonport - Smithton by 38 : I can't see Devonport getting a look in
Wynyard v Ulverstone - Ulverstone by 210 : Should maul the Cats
Latrobe v South Launceston - South by 33 : On last week's form, Latrobe have no idea how to win
North Launceston v Burnie - Burnie by 57 : Far too solid and too strong
Bye: East Devonport

NTFA Division One Next Matches (Round 17, August 16): George Town v Scottsdale, Bridgenorth v Deloraine, Hillwood v Longford, Rocherlea v Bracknell
The focus will centre on George Town and Rocherlea where those matches will certainly shape positions 2 down to five. Scottsdale have shown they are the alternate side to challenge the Saints and will be looking to do that here and get the win against George Town, but it will be tough against a Saints unit that are starting to humm along nicely. Saints should win.
The other game of interest in this Round will be at Rocherlea between Rocherlea and Bracknell and a shootout between David Wickham and Josh Adams. For both sides it's almost a last chance at getting into the top three with the loser to drop out. Rocherlea at home are a tough side however and look to have the Redlegs measure.
Other two games will be between Bridgenorth and Deloraine at the Nest with Bridgenorth slight favourites and Longford while out of form at the moment, will be too good for Hillwood.
Predictions: George Town by 33, Rocherlea by 19, Bridgenorth by 12, Longford by 78

NTFA Division Two Semi Finals
2nd Semi Finals at Beauty Point Saturday: Tamar Cats v Fingal (S), Old Scotch v Fingal (R)
The Seniors match pits the inform Tamar Cats against Fingal in what does shape up as a cracking contest at Beauty Point. Fingal while they did win didn't do it in convincing fashion and there are a few of the locals that will admit they start underdogs. Tamar Cats with the Barron Boys in rampaging form will take the Blues apart and move swiftly into the Grand Final.
1st Semi Finals at Youngtown Sunday: Old Scotch v Perth (S), St Pats v Perth (R)
I have to admit I do believe in a good fairytale, but at the same time I also think Perth are about to be due for a defeat. Old Scotch while defeated will take some positives out of the last 15 minutes of play and Perth would have preferred to get a closer game and some match hardness into them.
Youngtown will even these two sides out, but Old Scotch will play a lot harder and lift a lot more for this one. Scotch to out Perth.
Predictions: Tamar Cats by 63, Scotch by 29

For those interested in watching a great game of Senior School Boy Footy
St Patrick's College vs Hutchins in the State Final is being held Tomorrow @ Hutchins 1pm.
Many fine young footballers will be on display, including Tom Allwright and Marcus Davies from Hucthins up against the likes of Joe Groenewegen and Beau Thorp from SPC. These two teams have fought out alot of great games over the years including last years Final, where a Tom Bellchambers led SPC beat Hutchins. If SPC are successful tomorrow it will be their first Final victory in Hobart since 1979!

So if you want to watch a match full of commitment, school passion and great skill, head along to Hutchins tomorrow.

Any predictions on this one sportstalk?

Thanks for your wisdom sportstalk. I probably should have mentioned that SPC have defeated Hut by 47pts and 37pts in roster matches this year! So SPC would go in favs, but yes the home ground advantage and travel factor may bring things closer.

Interesting to note that Cygnet, Kermandie and Central Hawks have already started advertising for 2009 coaches.

Does this mean Michael Darcy and Adrian Burdon will be playing for different clubs next year as well?

Coaches that have been appointed/still under contract for next year as far as I know are Chris Joyce - Huonville, Channel still has Boots Marchant and Ben Atkin for Claremont.

Don't know about who is coaching Dodges, Lindisfarne, Triabunna or Sorell next year.
Presumably Ling for Dodges, Willing for Lindisfarne, Ackroyd for Sorell and Rogers for Triabunna.

Did I hear rightly that New Norfolk pumped Clarence by 40-odd points, after being 4 goals down at quarter time?

Or did Mumbles Newlinds stuff up the scores again? He called Clarence Claremont...

Anyway, Dodges pipped Huonville Lions by a point and Claremont came from behind to roll Sorell in Barge City.

North Hobart 34-point winners over the Lions, Glenorchy 8.5 over Lauderdale 5.5 and I think Kingo beat Brighton.

NTFA today and Deloraine pipped Bridgenorth by 4, Bracknell upset Rocherlea by 7 (Josh Adams got 11), Longford were 90 odd point winners on Hillwood and George Town outlasted Scottsdale by 16

The Div 2 second semi and Fingal beat the Tamar Cats by 21 points to move into the decider (damn it!)

NTFL winners were South by 6 goals on Latrobe, Smithton thumped Devonport, Launceston likewise on Penguin, Ulverstone over Wynyard and Burnie belted North by about 50 points.

Old Jock McGregor up to his old tricks again. Very rarely does he give his opposition credit after they get beat and always makes up an excuse or changes the subject onto the opposition some how. Reminds me a bit of Lleyton Hewitt a bit i think. Never gives credit where credits due. Come on Jock getting too old in the tooth for these games. Time for some maturity old son

Also should mention the NTFA Division Two first Semi Final today. Old Scotch won against Perth with a goal from Anthony Whitehead about 15 seconds from time getting up by 1 point. (15.12-102 to 14.17-101)
Perth were as much as 9 goals down midway through the third term but hit the front with about 40 seconds to go through Matthew Williams.

Charles Beaumont and Sam Tucker 5 goals each for Scotch, Paul Kelly 4 for the Magpies

Reserves was won by St Pats, easliy beating Perth 19.14-128 to 11.13-79. An awful first half from Perth cost them dearly as they were 11 goals down at half time.

Next Week: Preliminary Final at Aurora Stadium Saturday
Tamar Cats v Old Scotch (Sen), St Pats v Fingal (res)
