If they have recruited Probert as someone said before, along with the return of Matthew Brereton, Aaron Creek, Andrew Jurd and a couple of others with possibility of coach Bozicevic pulling his boots on again (unlikely considering his bad knees but a possibility), they certainly look a formidable side don't they?
Bozza has already been playing this year it is is a real shame that someone who was so feared on the ground, and that used to be tagged every week at north hobart is now a stinker. shouldn't be getting a game... would struggle at two's level...The perception that regional footy is so weak that good senior players can come back from out of footy and dominate again is totally wrong

ONE quick thing to Set like jelly???????
There are a few rumors starting to circulate about channel chasing a good playing coach that has the capacity to bring half a dozen players with him???? Any truth to this??? from all reports owen is struggling and doesn't have the pull for channel to get the players they obviously need???

I know of a few players who are thinking of coaching in the near future..

C Degoyer(Great leader)... T Stevenson...... C Joyce(Great leader) and also apparantly Richter from Nth Hob?????
These four guys have enourmous respect from most guys they have played with and would certainly have the capacity to get some players!!!!

6. Allow SFL Regional league clubs opportunity of 2 interstate recruits per year (like the English County Cricket with their overseas players)
Why? Not all clubs have access to these players

NB: Ozguy, it's just my opinion I know, but there would be benefits for clubs not only immediately, but in the long run too :):thumbsu:

Bring back zoning, and allocate the players into 2 tiers. The ones who can play premier league and the ones that don't make the cut. Limits mercenaries because they would require a clearance like the old days.

Just a thought.

Thats the first i have heard about it mate. I will make a few enquiries at the club and find out. Any of those 4 would be fantastic, I know Hooter, Joycey and Stevo and they are fantastic fellas and would be great for any club. Owen is doing a great job, he just doesn't have much to work with. I feel for the man, he has potential to be a great coach at the right club, with full commitment from the players.

Only time will tell..... We have done well to make it this far considering everyone thought we would fold after the mid season break.... At least those rumours have subsided for a while...

Zoning must NEVER come back. A blight on the game, as well as it would never survive the inevitable court challenge these days.

Anybody know anything about Hobart Football Clubs pub Ye Olde Commodore Inn changing there name to 'The Brisbane' ??

I was told by a reliable source that there will be live music there frequently now and will be ran by the old organiser at The Trout. Imagine the all sorts they will have hanging around there now!!

I'm aware it was up for lease not so long ago ....

Ye Olde Commodore Inn used to be known as The Brisbane Hotel up until only a few years ago (maybe very early this decade), and has been owned by the Hobart Football Club Sports Club since 1974.
The club's had a bit of an on/off relationship with the place for several years now, I'll never forget walking in with a group of mates about 9 years ago for a few brews and games of pool and seeing Southern Cats merchandise on the bar, we nicked it all and chucked it in the carpark when we left.
It was Hobart's major sponsors for couple of seasons not long back and was their principal cash-cow for the last few years when they changed to the Lions as they had very little sponsorship, members or crowds.
If it hadn't have been going so well under Mark Goodrick the club probably wouldn't have been able to get as much money to continue running as it did and probably would've folded a couple of years ago.
It was the home of the HFC Old Players, Officials & Supporters Association for a lot of years, which became a lot more utilised when Mark Goodrick was the licensee, but this partnership broke when the most recent licensee took over and was by all reports a rude little arse-nugget, and the HFC OPO&SA told him to stick it and they went elsewhere.
The place has generally not been very well utilised for many, many years, maybe only when Goodrick had it, but they've got to do something to get people through the doors, it's empty most of the time nowdays.
So if Hobart want their asset to continue making them money this will be pretty handy for them, especially with all the reports I've heard in recent times of the whingeing from the TCA about not having much money at the club, no crowds, no members etc - sucked in to them, they deserve everything they get the disrespectful assholes.

and speaking of 'no members', the TFLUA's apparently using it as a 'home away from home' at the moment ;)

Gee, Cygnet had a big last quarter...17 goals 9 behinds. Must be right up there in the record books Kingpin?

And Barge, what happened to the 'Mont?? Went off the ground at 3Qtr time?

I reckon 17.9 would be pretty close to a record, but there aren't adequate records kept to be able to tell unfortunately.
Not only that, but the accuracy of ABC Radio's quarter-by-quarter reports are notoriously unreliable so we'll have a peep through the local rag tomorrow. :thumbsu:

Was at the Glenorchy/Hobart match, very ordinary game! Hobart very lucky not to be beaten by 20 goals the way they played today, absoultely pitiful effort. And the crowd, I don't think they made any noise for about all of the day!

While I'll say Glenorchy are a good side, they were made to look like the Harlem Globetrotters today. Hobart couldn't string 2 possessions in a row for most of the day.

Good to see Kingborough finally breaking the duck too :thumbsu:
Dodges are in some trouble now, losing like that at home to Huonville
George Town got a major scare at home today, ABOUT TIME! :D
Might venture to Ulverstone tomorrow me thinks.....;)

Are you a footy journalist? - that is a lot of ground to cover for a game of footy from one end of the state to the other.

Barge - first cup you have lost this year - Oz gets to keep the OZ-BARGE cup til next year.
What happened to the pygmies? got lost in that jungle you call Abbotsfield Park? Or did you eat all their lollies at half time.

Not going to comment on Channel's game today - I'll leave it to Jelly to elaborate. Only can say it will be a battle royale when they take on Triabunna in a couple weeks or so to avoid a defeat.

Yep, good against the bottom sides but aren't in the same league against the better ones.
They've got a poor record on KGV, from memory they have only had one win (1996) and a draw to their credit since 1992 out there.
It was Hobart's Ball tonight, and traditionally back in the days when they were a real club, they always played very poorly on the Black & Gold Ball nights.
I don't think they won on Ball Night from the 70's right up until when Gillbee was coaching them in '99-'00!
Looks like a change of colours hasn't broken the hex.

What crowd? LOL :p
Weren't many there apparently, 400-tops including all the players.

No doubt they'll put some spin on the whole thing.
They'll probably blame the past players or past supporters for it or something :p
Either that or there'll be rumblings and the inevitable "Sack the coach!" call.

Old Launcestonians vs Old Scotch reserves game yesterday, one of the lowest acts I have ever seen on a footy field. One guy who had lost the plot attempted to headbutt one bloke, missed, then ran to a contest and cracked an Old Scotch player leaving him cold on the ground.

But wait, it gets worse..........
Straight after that happened OL's coach Brett Martin ran past and kicked him as hard as he could with a run up. Nothing short of dispicable. The game was called off straight after.

Making it a bit worse too was the fact that the umpires offered them both 2 weeks!!! Idiots that they are they declined it. There may be an assault charge heading their way.
